I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 261 - 261 258 Griffin Cliff261: Chapter 258 Griffin Cliff 261: Chapter 258 Griffin Cliff Mu Ying, although eager to explore the underground city immediately, needed to check a few newly emerged areas around the territory first and prepare some items to counter traps.

So, she continuously teleported to the Quarry Camp, where she collected some stone materials and stored them in her Space Ring.

Afterward, she visited the Breeding Camp.

“You’re back?” Liu Luoluo, who had just finished collecting blood from the Petrified Lizard and was carrying a bucket, saw her and asked cheerfully.

Mu Ying nodded, “Do you know what the flying creature you mentioned earlier is?

Has it appeared again recently?”

“I checked the Monster Atlas at the Mercenary Guild; it should be a Griffin.

Jingjing asked around with the NPCs in the territory, and they all said it’s a fierce yet loyal flying mount, though it’s very difficult to train.

It needs to be cultivated from an egg, as those hatched are hard to tame.

The day before yesterday, Jingjing even sneaked to Griffin Cliff to take a look, that’s the name we’ve given that cliff area.

The nests of the Griffins are on the cliff, very difficult to steal, and they seem to prefer livestock over humans for food.

However, if someone tries to approach the cliff, it still triggers their crazy attacks.

Jingjing tried to communicate with them using animal conversation, but it didn’t work.

The livestock in the ranch do attract them greatly.

They used to come every day for a while, but they couldn’t break through the Territory Shield.

Lately, they haven’t attacked the Territory Shield much.

They just circle in the sky for a while whenever they pass by here, probably because they’re envious,” Luoluo explained in detail to Mu Ying.

With that said, the Griffins posed little threat to the territory’s players as long as they weren’t provoked, which relieved Mu Ying.

She was just worried that the Griffin might surround and kill territory players while they were out hunting or gathering.

As for the possibility of training them as flying mounts, she also took it to heart.

It wasn’t an overnight thing, and even if they managed to obtain eggs stealthily, taming might not be successful.

Moreover, as large flying beasts, they were expensive to maintain.

After leaving the Breeding Camp, Mu Ying rode on her Magic Flying Carpet to Griffin Cliff.

She saw the legendary Griffins with her own eyes.

This creature had the head, forelimbs, and wings of an eagle but the body of a strong lion, classified as a large flying beast, and rated between levels 3 to 5.

The number wasn’t really that high; they built their nests on the cliff tops using branches, leaves, and bones of their prey.

There was actually just one nest on each cliff, not counting the immature Little Griffins.

Each nest housed a male and a female Griffin, totaling no more than 100.

Mu Ying observed there for half a day and noted that they possessed a strong sense of territory.

Any bird that came close to Griffin Cliff or any beast that passed from below faced their brutal attacks.

Birds would get their wings pecked off, while larger animals were grabbed and thrown off the cliff; only a few were considered suitable as food.

Not long since the world fused and beneath these cliffs, layers of animal bones had accumulated, some still in a semi-rotten state, with insects swarming around.

However, none of the Griffins on their hunting outings chose humans as prey.

Reassured here, Mu Ying then flew to the previously visited Fishman Replica.

A new section of the sea had emerged here, distinctly different from the original sea area.

It was recognizable at a glance because the beaches and the sea water were a light red color.

The Koutao Fishman village was built on the beach, with the pillars supporting the houses submerged in water when the waves came.

It was several times larger than the one Mu Ying had burned down before.

It was now akin to a town, with Fishmen living closely packed together.

The upper floors of the houses were used for storing food, while the lower floors were crammed with Fishmen sleeping; some were even resting in the open air.

This indicated the substantial number of Koutao Fishmen.

In the center of the town, there was a very spacious area without any houses.

Instead, various jars of different sizes were buried there.

Half buried in the sand and half exposed, densely packed in this place.

The sand and seawater here were darker than elsewhere.

When the waves came in, they were light red, turning into a blood-like bright red as they retreated, and then diluted by the other seawater into light red again.

It was as if this was the source of the red seawater and sand.

In the midst of these jars, there was an altar, and on it stood a peculiar shrimp-headed female body divine statue.

Aside from the fairly intact lobster head, perhaps due to the crude workmanship, the lower half of the statue, resembling a human female, had a fragmented and stitched together appearance, as if assembled from different women’s limbs.

Because the Koutao Fishmen were extremely sensitive to their surroundings, even invisibility couldn’t escape their detection, so Mu Ying’s magic flying carpet stayed a safe distance from the mermaid town.

Yet even from such a distance, when she looked at that divine statue, she unexpectedly felt as if it were gazing back at her, and a peculiar urge arose within her to leap down and engage in a frantic battle with the Fishmen.

She quickly recognized the anomaly, yet she lost control of her senses, feeling unable to restrain herself.

Mu Ying tightly gripped the flying carpet, forcefully diverting her gaze, her forehead covered in cold sweat.

It took a while before the feeling gradually faded.

“This divine statue can actually influence one’s mind!” she frowned, still feeling the aftershock, and no longer dared to look at that altar.

This was the first time Mu Ying had encountered such a mind-targeting thing; it was truly unpredictable.

It was no wonder Yu Jun had gone mad, with the Koutao Fishmen placing such an object in the town and worshipping it.

It appeared the Koutao Fishmen posed some danger.

Although the individual strength of the Koutao mermaids was not strong, and they were no match for players one on one, they were numerous and never fought alone.

Whatever the issue, they swarmed forward en masse, most skilled at mobbing.

Moreover, with this peculiar divine statue present, they were likely not as easy to deal with as before.

However, being amphibious monsters, the Koutao Fishmen lived on coastal lands but still within shallow waters.

After players had killed so many Fishmen, they had even brazenly boiled Fishman oil outside the instance, but following the world integration, the Koutao Fishmen had not attacked inland.

They restricted their activities to the small woods near the beach.

It was evident they could not be away from seawater for long.

Given the distance between Qingshan Town and the seaside, these Koutao Fishmen also posed no immediate threat to the territory.

But the players who previously lived off boiling Fishman oil would be temporarily unemployed.

With so many Fishmen, plus that bizarre divine statue, approaching them was likely a one-way trip.

Mu Ying took one last deep look at the Fishman town, then turned and flew towards her territory.

After returning to the territory, she teleported to the Undersea Corridor and had the mermaid lead her to the mermaid village to visit Priestess Granny.

She was still troubled by that divine statue and thought that, being marine creatures as well, the mermaids might know something about it.
