I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 268 - 268 264 Carpet Search268: Chapter 264: Carpet Search 268: Chapter 264: Carpet Search Exploring the Underground City was a long-term endeavor, and she planned to engage in a war of attrition, so she would take her time with these manuscripts.

Mu Ying could only think this way.

Inside the wooden door, Mu Ying and Gungun also entered the room that had already been scoured several times by players.

There were no secret rooms or hidden compartments.

They continued to delve deeper into the Underground City.

At the end of this passage was a T-intersection, with forks to the left and right.

Both had been entered by players before, marked by triggered traps, with a flame trap on the left and a bow and arrow trap on the right.

They saw no new doors.

Even though traps had been triggered, Mu Ying still didn’t fully relax and kept Gungun in his reduced size, huddled inside her shoulder bag.

She randomly chose a corridor to enter, walked several times back and forth to ensure no other traps were present, and then allowed Gungun to return to normal size to start checking with the Wall Peeping Mirror.

The inspection wasn’t very fast, and during this time, Mu Ying could translate another segment of the manuscript.

Of course, not every time led to discoveries.

In this way, they gradually proceeded down the corridor, making marks at each fork and arbitrarily choosing a path to follow.

Mu Ying also took a large piece of paper to record the route she had traveled.

A long stretch of the way had already been triggered by other players, so their progress was relatively fast, just checking for anything that might have been missed.

Thus, they inspected bit by bit.

Each evening, they promptly opened the Space Suitcase to rest inside with Gungun, and Mu Ying still managed to spare some time to translate the previously found manuscripts,_learning some new Spells.

Sometimes they encountered adventurers coming in to explore.

Upon seeing Mu Ying, they merely greeted her, watched for a while, and seeing no progress, they left on their own.

“Lord, what are you up to!”

That day, Huo Shaobai’s team had a good haul and planned to go out to resupply and store their items.

Passing by and seeing Mu Ying squatting on the ground writing and drawing, while Gungun held a large mirror against the ceiling doing something unclear, Lu You approached and asked curiously.

“Searching for things.” Mu Ying replied.

“Ah?

This place has been searched several times over.

What good stuff could still be here?

You’re searching brick by brick.

All the tombs will be vacated by others except for a few with Secret Magic Locks on their Stone Gate tombs,” Lu You kindly reminded.

“That might not be the case.

I’m conducting a grid search.

The good stuff wouldn’t just be blatantly out in the open,” Mu Ying insisted.

“Wait, you said all the tombs?

Did you guys reach the end?”

“Half-Breed Wanderers are quite skilled at disarming devices.

They can usually detect traps in the corridors in advance, and even if they can’t disable them, they can find clumsy ways to trigger them harmlessly.

So, recently there’s been an increase in teams teaming up with Half-Breeds to explore here.

Lingtian and Luoxia’s teams have people coming over too.

From the intelligence we could gather, basically, every corridor has been visited by players, and the map of the tombs has been almost entirely summarized.

There are only a few hundred tombs.”

Lu You took out a piece of paper.

Mu Ying hadn’t returned to her territory recently and was unaware of this news.

She opened it and, though crudely drawn, it indeed was a quite complete map, clearly marking where the tombs were and where the traps had been disabled.

A part of it overlapped with her own route map, indicating the accuracy and effectiveness of this map.

Mu Ying frowned, feeling it was not that simple.

The Underground City was originally a place for adventurers to explore and seek treasures, but it also supported a group of residents who depended on the Underground for their livelihood, like the author of the manuscripts she had been reading recently.

So the Underground was both a place for adventure and everyday living.

How could it be just so limited in size?

Even if there were many tombs, numbering in the hundreds, it still seemed too few.

Moreover, the devices and traps also seemed too simple.

If most of the problems here could be dealt with by a single skilled Wanderer, was this Underground City just handing out money?

Adventurers paid an entrance fee to come in, gained treasures through adventures in the Underground City where some made back the ticket price, while others died and became part of the treasures.

The Underground City grew by absorbing the emotional energies; this was the developmental model of the Underground.

Mu Ying also noticed something else.

Apart from the traps, Lu You didn’t mention any other dangers, as if having Half-Breed Wanderers around to disable the devices meant one could just pick up money.

Before, she had thought that the places she had traveled were already explored by other players, so it was like this.

Unexpectedly, in this Underground City, apart from the initial group that came in to eat corpses, the Ghouls, there might really be no other monsters left, with the dangers all lying in the corridor traps.

“Did you encounter any difficult monsters ahead?” Mu Ying still asked.

“No, not a single one.

Even the corpses in the tombs are dead beyond dead,” Lu You replied.

Upon hearing this, Huo Shaobai also realized something was amiss, as if things were going too smoothly.

The few exchanged glances, and Lu You chuckled, “Why overthink it?

Maybe this tomb had only ever had Ghouls break into it before?”

This tomb might indeed have only had Ghouls break into it, but the key point was that this place was not just one tomb.

However, it wasn’t easy for Mu Ying to directly say this news.

559 had already helped her to keep the affairs of the Underground City confidential.

Now that the worlds had merged, the movement of outsiders was no longer restricted.

According to 559, the information about Guland Underground City was now known by few; usually, only collectors and those in similar professions to pawnshops knew about it.

Players might not understand what the Underground City implied, but for outsiders, a nascent Underground Core was even more attractive than a Divine Artifact.

If word got out and players found out, that might be fine, but she was worried it might attract some outsiders whom she wasn’t confident she could outmaneuver, potentially losing her edge.

Mu Ying was no saint; naturally, she preferred to keep such valuable things in her own hands.

If the news leaked, it would only increase the danger.

So at that moment, she didn’t say much, continuing her grid search.

If there were any hidden secrets left in this tomb, this method might help uncover them better.

Even if she completed her search of the entire tomb without finding anything substantial, then she would give up.

Having nearly finished inspecting this corridor, she moved into another fork on the right.

“Hey, that way leads to a dead-end!” Watching her head in that direction, Lu You, who had walked a few steps away, couldn’t help but call out.

“No worries, I’m behind schedule anyway, hanging back a little longer won’t hurt,” Mu Ying said with good spirits.
