Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

In the blink of an eye, Zhao Rong had transformed into a Maoshan Taoist priest straight out of the movies. When the three women saw his instantaneous change, they were immediately dazzled by his costume.

Thinking of Lam Ching-ying from the Hong Kong movies, Lili looked at Zhao Rong and felt the two were remarkably similar. ”Brother Zhao Rong, are you cosplaying right now?” she asked. ”You and Lam Ching-ying look identical. You’re simply a real-life Zombie Taoist Priest...”

Yu Lan added admiringly, ”Brother Zhao Rong, with that outfit, you look just like a Ghost Catching Taoist Priest.”

Sensing his powerful mana, Xuelian said, ”Brother Zhao Rong, I finally understand what you meant. When you don the yellow robe, you truly become a Taoist priest.”

While the three women were still praising him, Zhao Rong swung his Peach Wood Sword, cutting into the horde of evil spirits that had surrounded them. His swordsmanship was sharp and decisive, and in no time at all, he had felled many of the ghouls.

The assistant, watching from inside the supermarket as Zhao Rong desperately fought his way in to save him, exclaimed emotionally, ”Brother Zhao Rong, as long as you’re with us, we’ll be safe no matter where we go! Your power is just incredible...”

Before the assistant could finish, Zhao Rong had already dispatched all the evil spirits in his path.

The three women were stunned speechless by how incredible Zhao Rong was. Lili said in disbelief, ”Brother Zhao Rong, I knew you could catch ghosts, but I never imagined you were this powerful! Dealing with these lesser ghouls is a piece of cake for you.”

Yu Lan gave Zhao Rong a thumbs-up, still in disbelief. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you’re amazing! Truly a master among masters.”

Xuelian even pulled out her phone and started playing the theme music from a Huang Feihong movie. ”’A man must be strong,’” she quoted. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you are a man among men, a hero among heroes!”

While the women were still singing his praises, Zhao Rong rushed in and cut the assistant free from the shelving unit he was tied to. Checking his wounds, Zhao Rong asked, ”Are you okay?”

Tears and snot streamed down the assistant’s face. ”Fucking unbelievable,” he sobbed. ”I just came into the supermarket to buy something and got surrounded by ghosts...”

Why are there so many evil spirits in an abandoned gas station? Zhao Rong wondered.

Just then, the three women rushed into the supermarket. ”Brother Zhao Rong, since you’ve rescued the assistant, let’s get in the car and leave this damned place immediately!” they urged. ”The consequences will be unimaginable if we stay any longer. This place is too eerie, too twisted, too terrifying!”

Heeding their words, Zhao Rong grabbed the assistant’s hand and began pulling him toward the exit. ”Let’s go, quickly! We’re leaving this hellhole right now!”

But before Zhao Rong could finish his sentence, he realized something was wrong. His hand was touching the assistant’s, and the man’s body had absolutely no warmth. Zhao Rong froze, then spun around and gripped the assistant’s shoulders. ”You’ve been infected with corpse venom,” he said, staring at him. ”You’re about to turn into an evil spirit!”

Hearing this, the three women recoiled in fear. ”Brother Zhao Rong, what makes you say that?” one of them asked incredulously. ”How could the assistant suddenly turn into an evil spirit when he seems fine?”

Zhao Rong applied a pressure-point technique to immobilize the assistant. Once the man was still, he turned to the women. ”Haven’t you noticed?” he said. ”His body... it has no warmth.”

Lili pulled a thermometer from her pocket, stuck it under the assistant’s armpit, and then exclaimed in surprise, ”No way! A normal human body temperature is around 36 degrees Celsius... but the assistant’s temperature is zero!”

Yu Lan leaned in to examine the assistant’s eyes. ”Impossible,” she said, her voice filled with disbelief. ”Look closely—his pupils are completely dilated and unfocused.”

When a person dies, their pupils immediately dilate...

Xuelian, growing more alarmed, took out an infrared heart monitor. After checking the assistant’s vitals, she said in terror, ”Look! This guy... he has no heartbeat and no pulse!”

After their combined examinations, Zhao Rong and the three women confirmed the terrible truth: the assistant was already dead.

Lili frowned. ”Brother Zhao Rong, if the assistant is already dead, how can he still talk, walk, and show emotions?”

Zhao Rong shook his head, just as puzzled. ”He must have been infected with some kind of corpse venom. It was dormant inside his body before, but now it has suddenly activated. That’s the only explanation I can think of.”

Yu Lan noticed the assistant’s fingers twitching. ”Brother Zhao Rong,” she said fearfully, ”you used your pressure-point technique on him... so why are his fingers still moving? Doesn’t it work on the dead?”

Just then, Xuelian saw the assistant’s mouth fall open, his tongue unnaturally extending as his face twisted into a ferocious snarl. ”Brother Zhao Rong, look!” she shrieked in terror. ”He opened his mouth and his tongue just shot out ten centimeters!”

Zhao Rong froze for a second, then immediately understood. A hanging ghost. He said to the three women, ”That group of evil spirits must have hanged him with a rope. That would explain why he’s sticking his tongue out like that.”

When the women heard he was a hanging ghost, their eyes widened in horror and they scrambled further away.

While everyone was paralyzed with terror, the assistant suddenly broke free of Zhao Rong’s pressure-point hold. He lunged forward, his jaw gaping wide, aiming for Zhao Rong’s neck.

Seeing the fangs in the assistant’s mouth as he lunged, the women screamed, ”Brother Zhao Rong, look out! He’s trying to bite your neck!”

In a flash, Zhao Rong leaped into the air and delivered a flying kick that sent the assistant sprawling to the ground.

But the fallen assistant didn’t retreat. Instead, he scrambled back to his feet and lunged at Zhao Rong again.

Seeing how ferocious the assistant had become, Zhao Rong grabbed a packet of spicy strips from a nearby shelf and hurled it at the creature’s face. ”Have some spicy strips!” he yelled. ”Let’s see if you’ve still got the guts to fight after this!”

The three women were left completely dumbfounded, watching Zhao Rong attack a monster with a snack food.
