Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

A man stepped out of the Mercedes and headed straight for Zhao Rong’s group of five. He had slicked-back, oily hair and wore a trench coat and sunglasses, with a cigar clamped in his mouth and a cane in his hand.

Upon reaching Zhao Rong, the man clapped him on the shoulder, gave him a thumbs-up, and said, ”Zhao Rong, you completed this mission spectacularly.”

Recognizing the familiar voice, Zhao Rong realized the person before him was none other than the Chairman. He was taken aback; the Chairman now looked completely different from how he remembered. ”Chairman, I remember you used to look different,” Zhao Rong said. ”Why the new getup? With the top hat, sunglasses, cigar, cane, and trench coat, you look like a mob boss from a movie.”

The Chairman glanced around nervously before whispering, ”You don’t know this, but Wang Jingang, the number one assassin in Xijing City, is after me.”

Hearing that an assassin was hunting his boss, Zhao Rong immediately stepped forward, spreading his arms to shield the Chairman. He scanned their surroundings and declared, ”Chairman, I, Zhao Rong, was born to be a top-tier bodyguard. If anyone dares to come after you, they’ll have to go through me first. I’ll protect you with my life.”

”The assassin, Wang Jingang, is no ordinary man,” the Chairman said, pointing to the Mercedes RV behind him and ushering Zhao Rong and the other four inside. ”He comes and goes without a trace, as elusive as a ghost. For safety’s sake, let’s talk in the RV.”

Once inside, Zhao Rong’s group discovered that the Mercedes RV was bulletproof.

Just then, Lili stepped forward and hugged the Chairman. ”Dad, you have no idea what Zhao Rong went through for you,” she said. ”To get your gold reserves back and eliminate your rivals, Zhou Xiaoer and Hong Ju, he was instrumental.”

Yu Lan added, ”Chairman, to complete this mission, Zhao Rong led us through hell and back. He overcame every obstacle and endured incredible hardship just to recover those gold reserves for you.”

Xuelian took out her phone, pulling up videos she had secretly recorded. ”Chairman, you have to see this,” she said, showing him the screen. ”These are clips of Zhao Rong fighting the bad guys. It was incredibly dangerous, but he was absolutely brilliant and captivating.”

Hearing the praise from the young women, the Chairman decided to reward Zhao Rong on the spot. ”Zhao Rong, since you’ve put in so much effort, it’s only right that I, as the Chairman, properly reward my bodyguard.”

At the mention of a reward, Zhao Rong immediately took out the Magic Cube Building and poured out the gold reserves belonging to the Chairman. ”Chairman, here are your gold reserves, recovered from Hong Ju and Zhou Xiaoer. Please count them.”

But before Zhao Rong could finish, the Chairman pushed all the gold back toward him. ”Zhao Rong, please, accept this gold. This is only a part of your reward.”

Stunned to hear that the Chairman was giving him such a vast amount of gold, Zhao Rong stammered, ”Chairman, the whole point of the mission was for me to recover these gold reserves and return them to their rightful owner... If you give them all to me, wouldn’t that be a huge loss for your business?”

The Chairman let out a hearty laugh. ”Zhao Rong, what you don’t know is that as soon as you eliminated those two villains, Hong Ju and Zhou Xiaoer, I immediately acquired their companies. The profits I gained from acquiring their companies far exceed the value of this gold.”

Light dawned on Zhao Rong.

So that was it! The Chairman had ulterior motives all along. He talked about recovering the gold, but his real goal was to take over Hong Ju and Zhou Xiaoer’s companies. Now that I’ve eliminated them, he just took advantage of the situation to absorb their businesses and reap massive commercial profits.

With that realization, Zhao Rong no longer hesitated. He accepted the gold reserves and thanked the Chairman, ”In that case, thank you, Chairman.”

Seeing Zhao Rong accept the gold, the Chairman then produced some documents. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you’ve completed a monumental task. So, I’m not just rewarding you with gold reserves; I’m also giving you a portion of the company’s shares.”

When Zhao Rong saw that the shares the Chairman was giving him were valued at a staggering ten billion US dollars, he said excitedly, ”Chairman, giving me this many shares... isn’t this a bit much?”

The Chairman smiled and urged him to accept. ”Zhao Rong, you are, after all, going to be my son-in-law one day. It’s only natural for me to give you these shares. Don’t be modest. Just take them.”

Before Zhao Rong could respond, Lili accepted the shares on his behalf and turned to her father. ”Dad, since you’ve given Zhao Rong shares worth ten billion US dollars this time, next time, you’ll have to give him shares worth one hundred billion US dollars.”

The Chairman nodded in agreement. ”Brother Zhao Rong, as long as you help me complete this next mission, shares worth one hundred billion US dollars will be yours.”

Hearing that a mission was worth one hundred billion US dollars, Zhao Rong accepted without a second thought. ”Chairman, just tell me what the mission is. I guarantee I’ll complete it perfectly and bring the culprit to justice.”

The Chairman smiled, pulling a photograph from his pocket and handing it to Zhao Rong. ”This is the man I mentioned earlier, Wang Jingang, the number one assassin in Xijing City. He was hired by the tycoon Zheng Xiaopeng to assassinate me.”

Zhao Rong was shocked to hear that the assassin was employed by Zheng Xiaopeng. ”Chairman, I thought you and the tycoon Zheng Xiaopeng were the closest of friends, sworn brothers even. Why would he hire an assassin to kill you now?”

The Chairman let out a long sigh. ”British Prime Minister Churchill was right: in this world, there are no permanent friends, only permanent interests. It’s a long story, Brother Zhao Rong. After you killed the villains Hong Ju and Zhou Xiaoer, Zheng Xiaopeng and I had a major falling-out over the acquisition of their companies. That conflict over money is the primary reason we became enemies.”
