Miranda’s face flushed a deep, sudden crimson. She realized, with a spike of embarrassment, she hadn’t actually stared at the golden statuette on the counter during dinner at all. She stared at Marvin standing beside it.

Before she could formulate a defense, Marvin suddenly sat up. He reached out with lightning speed, snatched the statuette from her hands, and carelessly tossed it aside. It landed on the carpet with a dull thud.

He moved toward her, his movements fluid. He gently took her hand, his fingers wrapping around her wrist, and pulled her down to sit gently on the edge of the mattress beside him.

”I change my mind,” Marvin said. His voice dropped into a low, vibrating register sending an involuntary shiver down her spine. He leaned closer, invading her personal space.

”What makes that cold piece of metal so special anyway? It looks nowhere near as beautiful as you... or as handsome as me.”

Before Miranda could fully process the shift in the atmosphere, Marvin playfully tugged on her arm, pulling her down backward onto the soft mattress with him.

She gasped, her eyes widening in surprise as she fell against the pillows. ”Ah! Marvin, my bath towel!”

She scrambled with one hand to keep the terrycloth secured over her chest. Marvin shifted his weight, hovering over her, supporting himself on his elbows. He quickly, gently covered her mouth with his hand, his touch warm and electric against her skin.

”Shh,” Marvin whispered, a teasing smirk playing on his lips. ”Keep it down. Do you want to wake Frank up and attract everyone in the house?”

Miranda gazed up at Marvin. Her breath caught in her throat. Her chest rose and fell rapidly against the towel as she felt the intense, sudden closeness between them. The heavy, intoxicating scent of his body mixed with the dark, magnetic pull of the Incubus aura.

The air between them felt thick with unspoken tension. For a moment, neither of them moved.

Miranda looked into his eyes. She traveled across the world, navigating the ruthless modeling industry in Tokyo and Los Angeles.

She met older men, wealthy men, famous men.

But none of them possessed the captivating gravity of the boy hovering over her right now. ”You shouldn’t be in here,” Miranda whispered against his palm, her voice lacking any real conviction.

Marvin slowly slid his hand away from her mouth, his fingers trailing down her jawline to trace the delicate curve of her neck.

”I can leave if you want me to,” Marvin murmured, his gaze dropping to her lips. He didn’t move an inch. ”Just say the word, Miranda.”

Miranda swallowed hard. The logic in her brain told her to push him away, to protect her boundaries. But the magnetism radiating from him clouded her thoughts. He looked like a prince from a fairy tale, and the quiet intimacy of the shadowed room made the outside world feel miles away.

She slowly reached up, her hand trembling slightly, and placed her palm against his chest. She felt the steady, calm beat of his heart through his cotton shirt.

”I didn’t say I wanted you to leave,” Miranda whispered. A small, daring smile finally broke across her face.

Marvin’s smirk deepened into something more dangerous. He lowered his head, closing the distance, his lips hovering just a fraction of an inch above hers. ”Good,” Marvin said, his voice a dark, velvet promise. ”Because I don’t intend to.”

..

Marvin hovered over her. The weight of his gaze locked her in place. The dim glow of the bedside lamp caught the gold flecks in his eyes. Miranda held her breath. Her fingers gripped the edges of the white terrycloth towel, the only barrier remaining between them.

The silence in the guest bedroom stretched, broken only by the distant, muffled laughter of Frank and Grant downstairs.

Marvin lowered his head. He closed the remaining distance until his lips hovered a fraction of an inch above hers. She could feel the warmth of his breath against her skin. Her heart hammered a frantic rhythm against her ribs.

Then, his lips curved into a faint, knowing smile. He turned his head, his mouth brushing past her cheek to rest near her ear.

”Quickly,” he whispered, his velvet voice teasing. ”Get up, put on some clothes.”

He pushed himself up off the mattress, rolling to the side to give her space. He turned his back to her, adjusting the cuffs of his dress shirt.

From behind him, Miranda’s voice floated hesitantly, tinged with a mix of relief, embarrassment and loss. ”Alright... okay!”

He heard the rustle of the duvet and the soft thud of the damp towel hitting the carpeted floor.

When Marvin turned back around, he found her buried up to her collarbone under the quilt. Her bare shoulders peeked over the edge of the fabric.

He arched a dark eyebrow, studying her expression for a moment. ”Do you usually sleep without clothes on?”

”Yeah,” she replied casually, though a faint blush colored her cheeks. ”I find it more comfortable this way. Especially after a long flight.”

Marvin chuckled, shaking his head as he settled back onto the edge of the mattress. ”Suit yourself. Anyway, do you want to hear a story? I outlined something new in my head. Interested?”

Miranda looked at him intently. Her expression shifted, curiosity replacing her initial shyness. ”Marvin... did you peek at me just now?”

The unexpected question caught him off guard. He looked at her, amused by her sudden boldness.

”Does it look good?” she pressed before he could even form a reply. The pink hue on her cheeks deepened, spreading down her neck.

He hesitated for a moment. His incubus nature appreciated the opening. He flashed a cheeky, effortless grin. ”Of course. You have a very good developing body. Give it a few years, and modeling agencies in Los Angeles will probably be competing to sign you.”

Miranda ducked her head back under the covers, hiding her face. Despite her sudden wave of shyness, her underlying confidence—honed by the chaotic, judgmental world of fashion castings—helped her recover quickly.

A few seconds later, she poked her head back out from beneath the blanket. A mischievous smile played on her lips. She whispered, ”Marvin, since you saw me, it seems only fair I get to see you too.”

Marvin leaned back against the headboard, crossing his arms behind his head. He offered a lazy smirk. ”I don’t mind. But if you want to see something, you’ll have to take these off yourself.” He gestured openly to the buttons of his shirt.

His roguish tone left Miranda momentarily speechless. Her mouth opened in a silent protest before she gritted her teeth, her competitive streak flaring.

”You think I won’t dare?” she challenged. Her Australian accent thickened.

”Go ahead,” Marvin teased. His eyes danced with amusement. ”Try me.”

Miranda reached out from the warmth of the quilt. Her hand trembled slightly as her fingers found the top button of his shirt. The smooth fabric of the high-end cotton slipped between her fingers. Nerves got the better of her, and she fumbled, unable to undo the button hole.

Marvin couldn’t help it. He broke into a triumphant laugh. ”See? You can’t even manage the first one!”

Irritated by his taunts, Miranda abandoned the button. She reached down and pinched his side sharply.

”Ouch!” Marvin yelped, jumping slightly and glaring down at her. ”What was that for?”

Miranda giggled, pulling the quilt up to cover her mouth. Her eyes sparkled with victory. ”That’s what you get for acting so smug, little brat!”

Marvin narrowed his eyes playfully. The aristocratic poise vanished, replaced by the energy of a teenager ready for a fight. ”Not fair. My turn now.”

Her voice came from beneath the covers, teasing and coquettish. ”Fine, but you’ll have to catch me first before you get your revenge!”

Before she could retreat further into her fabric fortress, Marvin flipped the edge of the quilt and dove in.

”Gotcha! Lightning attack!” he exclaimed.

His hands found her sides, and he began tickling her mercilessly.

Miranda squealed, kicking her legs under the blankets. She laughed uncontrollably, twisting and turning to escape his hands. ”Stop it! Marvin, stop! It feels so itchy! Don’t—we make too much noise!”

”Admit defeat!” he demanded, laughing with her.

”Never!”

”Then so be it...”

Eventually, their playful scuffle subsided. The tension from earlier dissolved into genuine, youthful warmth. Marvin stretched out on top of the covers, catching his breath, his chest rising and falling. Miranda lay beside him, her hair a tangled mess across the pillows. Her eyes shone as she gazed up at him.

”Didn’t you promise to tell me a story?” she murmured. She shifted closer, curling comfortably against his side, resting her head on his shoulder.

Marvin smiled down at her. The glow of the nightlight cast soft shadows across her enthralled expression. He leaned back against the headboard, staring up at the ceiling, and began to speak.

”This is a story about love,” he began. His voice dropped into a rhythmic, storytelling cadence. ”The protagonist is Bella Swan. She portrays a seventeen-year-old high school girl who never quite fits in. Her father, Charlie, operates as a quiet, workaholic police officer. Her mother behaves impulsive and unpredictable, constantly chasing new dreams. After her mother remarries, Bella decides to give them space. She packs her bags and moves to live with her father in a small, perpetually rainy logging town in Washington State. A town called Forks.”

He wove the tale, letting the atmosphere of the cloudy, damp town fill the room. He introduced the pale, striking family of adopted siblings sitting alone in the school cafeteria. He described the scent of the rain, the dense green of the pine forests, and the quiet, dangerous boy staring at Bella as if she represented both a miracle and a threat.

As he narrated, altering the pacing and dialogue with his own flair to make the gothic romance more compelling, Marvin’s mind wandered beyond the bedroom. He analyzed his plans for adapting the story into a screenplay.

He rapidly entered the awkward phase of his career. The transition between child actor and adult leading man formed a perilous graveyard for Hollywood talent. Many young stars, beloved for their innocent faces, faded into obscurity during their teenage years because audiences refused to accept them in mature roles.

Marvin determined to control his own transition.

*Twilight’s* appeal lay entirely in its focused simplicity. It offered a potent mix of teenage romance, forbidden fantasy, and moody atmosphere. It required minimal special effects, keeping the production budget low, but possessed a narrative hook capable of capturing a broad, obsessive demographic. It stood as a safe choice to secure a young adult fanbase.

Moreover, he planned to rewrite the original plot. He would elevate the character of Edward Cullen. Instead of a brooding, passive figure, Marvin would infuse the vampire with a darker, commanding edge, suiting his own acting range and his Incubus persona. He would take a teenage romance and turn it into a gothic phenomenon under his own production banner.

He described the meadow scene. The sunlight finally broke through the clouds, revealing the truth of the boy’s nature.

As Marvin spoke, his voice softened. The rhythmic cadence of his words performed its job. He glanced down.

Miranda fell asleep.

Her head rested lightly on his arm. Her breathing stayed steady, a quiet rise and fall against his side. The faint, sweet scent of her vanilla shower gel lingered in the warm air between them.

Smiling to himself, Marvin carefully slid his arm out from beneath her, adjusting the quilt to cover her shoulders. He reached over and gently turned off the bedside lamp. The room plunged into the quiet darkness of the early morning. He let the girl get lost in dreams of rainy towns and vampires.

.

The first days aboard the grand luxury liner felt like nothing short of a dream. She and Marvin just married, and their honeymoon felt wrapped in a bubble of pure, untouchable bliss.

Surrounded by the opulent grandeur of the ship, they spent their hours exploring the labyrinth of crystal-lit ballrooms and sweeping decks. Their laughter echoed over the rhythmic crash of the waves. Whenever Marvin looked at her, his eyes held a profound, unyielding love making the rest of the world melt away.

Suspended between the starry night sky and the endless expanse of the ocean, they felt entirely invincible, anchored only by their love for one another.

But that pristine illusion of paradise shattered in the dead of night. The terrifying jolt of the impact threw them to the floor, accompanied by a deafening shriek of tearing metal reverberating through the very spine of the massive ship. The cruise liner struck an iceberg, opening a fatal, gaping wound deep within its steel hull.
