”And this year, we have five remarkable performances.”

The lights dimmed.

The giant screen above the stage flickered to life.

”The nominees for Actor in a Supporting Role are...”

The montage began.

James Coburn for *Affliction.*

A respectful round of applause echoed through the theater. Coburn sat calmly, the veteran actor looking as weathered and confident as ever.

Robert Duvall for *A Civil Action.*

The audience applauded once more. Few performers in Hollywood commanded as much respect as Duvall.

Ed Harris for *The Truman Show.*

A louder reaction followed. Harris’s chilling portrayal of Christof had become one of the year’s most talked-about supporting performances.

Geoffrey Rush for *Shakespeare in Love.*

The Miramax contingent immediately erupted into applause as Rush’s image appeared on the screen.

Marvin Meyers for *The Sixth Sense.*

The audience reaction noticeably intensified.

Camera flashes erupted throughout the auditorium as the broadcast cut directly to Marvin’s table.

At thirteen years old, he sat among Hollywood legends with the same calm composure he had displayed all season.

His striking nebula-blue eyes reflected the stage lights as applause washed over him from every direction.

Marvin smiled politely and joined the applause for his fellow nominees. When the camera settled on him, he flashed a brief grin toward the lens—confident, charming, and entirely at ease beneath the attention of millions of viewers.

The reaction inside the theater grew even louder.

No matter how many times people heard it, the fact remained astonishing.

An Academy Award nominee.

For acting.

At thirteen years old.

As the applause finally died down, the camera returned to Kim Basinger.

Five performances.

Five vastly different actors.

A Hollywood veteran seeking long-overdue recognition.

A pair of respected character actors at the peak of their craft.

One of the industry’s most acclaimed performers.

And a teenage phenomenon who had already accomplished more than most actors managed in an entire career.

Bruce sat frozen beside him. Bruce stared at the back of the seat in front of him, feeling the weight of the moment. He experienced a fracture in his loyalties. Part of him felt a paternal pride for the kid who wrote the words he spoke on screen. He wanted Marvin to win.

But the veteran actor in him knew the unwritten rules of the Academy. If voters handed a major acting award to the child in the supporting category, they would rarely award the lead actor from the same film. The wealth had to be shared.

Bruce swallowed, feeling a sharp pang of guilt for hoping the boy lost.

Kim Basinger slid her finger under the seal of the golden envelope.

Kim Basinger smiled warmly as she stepped back toward the microphone, the golden envelope resting lightly in her hands.

”Each of these nominees gave performances that enriched their films in unforgettable ways,” she said. ”Their work reminds us that sometimes the most powerful moments in cinema come from the characters standing just outside the spotlight.”

The audience applauded politely.

Kim glanced down at the envelope.

”And the Oscar goes to...”

The room instantly fell silent.

She carefully broke the seal and unfolded the card.

A brief smile crossed her face as she read the name.

”The Oscar goes to Marvin Meyers for *The Sixth Sense.*”

For a fraction of a second, the theater seemed frozen.

Then the audience erupted.

Applause thundered throughout the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as people rose from their seats.

Several guests exchanged surprised glances.

Others simply laughed in disbelief.

A thirteen-year-old had just won an Academy Award. The camera immediately found Marvin. For the first time all evening, he looked genuinely stunned.

Marvin sat still. For a second, the noise of the room faded into a dull roar. He allowed himself a moment of stillness, shell-shocked, not knowing what to do or say.

Around him, Bruce Willis, Toni Collette, M. Night Shyamalan, and the rest of the Sixth Sense contingent were already on their feet, applauding enthusiastically.

The standing ovation spread across the auditorium.

Marvin stood from his seat. A composed smile settled on his face. In his tailored light blue suit, his tall, well-proportioned frame radiated an unhurried confidence. He no longer projected the innocent, vulnerable boy from the movie screen. As he stepped into the aisle, the admiration from the crowd amplified. Cheers rang down from the upper tiers, heavily populated by women screaming at the sight of him. His sunny smile and poised demeanor felt magnetic.

Bruce Willis, ever the supportive co-star, pulled him into a tight hug. ”Congratulations, little genius,” Bruce whispered. His tone laced with genuine admiration. ”Honestly, I feel a little jealous.”

Marvin laughed softly, patting Bruce’s shoulder. ”Sorry, Bruce!”

M. Night Shyamalan grabbed his hand, shaking it vigorously. Toni Collette hugged him next, planting a kiss on his cheek before gently pushing him toward the stage. She possessed the sense not to hog him all for herself while the broadcast clock ticked.

As Marvin stepped into the aisle, the applause continued to thunder throughout the auditorium.

The telecast announcer’s voice echoed across the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

”Marvin Meyers wins his first Academy Award for acting tonight for his performance in The Sixth Sense.”

The cameras followed him as he made his way toward the stage.

”Already Academy Award winner for the song My Heart Will Go On, this marks his second Oscar victory and his fourth career nomination.”

The ovation grew even louder.

”At just thirteen years old, Marvin Meyers becomes the second youngest male performer ever to win an acting Oscar.”

Rows of Hollywood’s biggest stars remained on their feet as he passed.

”His victory breaks a record that has stood for nearly two decades and places him among the youngest acting winners in Academy Award history.”

The applause continued to roll through the theater as he approached the stage.

Marvin climbed the stairs to the stage. He felt the weight of the moment but remained entirely composed. His expression, which once projected a timid boy on film, now filled with the charm and charisma of the Incubus.

He transformed before their eyes from a rising star into a leading actor ready for the world stage.

Kim Basinger stepped forward as Marvin reached the stage.

The applause still echoed throughout the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

For a brief moment, Kim simply smiled at him. Like much of Hollywood, she seemed caught between admiration and disbelief.

”Congratulations,” she said warmly.

Marvin smiled back.

”Thank you.”

Kim leaned down and gave him a brief congratulatory hug before placing the golden statuette into his hands.

Kim glanced at the audience before looking back at Marvin.

”You know, most people spend decades trying to get up here.”

The audience laughed.

Marvin glanced at the Oscar.

”Then I suppose I got very lucky.”

”Or very talented,” Kim replied. ”You’re making the rest of us look bad.”

The remark earned a burst of laughter.

Marvin lowered his gaze to the statuette.

”I’ve been hearing that a lot tonight.”

More laughter rolled through the auditorium.

Kim shook her head with an amused smile.

”Enjoy this moment.”

Then she stepped aside and surrendered the microphone.

The applause swelled once more.

Marvin looked down at the golden statuette resting in his hands.

For all his preparation, for all his confidence, for all the plans he had made for years, the reality still felt surreal.

An Academy Award.

His second.

And his first for acting.

The audience gradually settled back into their seats.

Hundreds of Hollywood’s most influential figures watched him from the darkness beyond the stage lights.

Marvin adjusted the microphone slightly.

The room fell silent.

”I didn’t expect it to be so hard to get this thing. Besides acting skills, it looks like I also had to please a beautiful woman. It feels so tough for me!”

Kim Basinger stepped back, laughing along with the roaring audience.

”Fortunately,” Marvin continued with a grin, ”I succeeded. Now I can proudly hold this statuette. Now, it’s time to say goodbye, everyone!”

He hugged the Oscar tightly, waved to the crowd, and turned away from the podium.

For a moment, the audience thought he truly left. The broadcast director’s heart skipped a beat. But Marvin paused near the edge of the stage. He turned back, walking to the microphone with a sly grin spreading across his face.

”You’ve all been lied to! It seems my acting skills really aren’t too bad, huh? I deserve this award.”

The realization hit the room. Another round of laughter erupted. They understood he played them.

His playful demeanor faded. Marvin straightened up. His eyes swept over the faces of the Hollywood elite, anchoring the room. He began his formal speech:

”Thank you so much to the Academy members for voting for me. This award means the world to me—it represents the greatest recognition and praise I could ask for.”

He looked toward the section holding his fellow nominees. ”I’m still not sure I deserved it any more than James Coburn, Ed Harris, Robert Duvall, or Geoffrey Rush. You all did wonderful work. Sharing this category with you stands as an honor.”

He glanced at the Miramax seats. ”Thank you to Harvey for believing in me.”

He found his own row. ”Making movies is a team effort. No performance exists in a vacuum. I’d like to thank M. Night Shyamalan and Bruce Willis. I love you, men, for teaching me how to act in a film like this. Toni Collette for serving as the best on-screen mother anyone could ask for. And all members of the crew from our producers, Barry, Frank, and Kathleen, all the way to our set assistants holding boom mics in the cold. This represents a shared award for all of us. I wouldn’t stand here today if I didn’t hold all your support.”

He scanned the upper balconies. ”Thank you to everyone on the cast and crew of *The Sixth Sense*—you form the best team I could ever have worked with.”

”To Mr. Jeff, my agent— To Ms. Amy, my assistant, thank you.”

He looked directly at the center camera. ”To my lovely father, Grant, and my beautiful mother, Linda. To My family—your love helped me grow, supporting me every step. I thank you for protecting me through thick and thin.”

”Thank you to everyone who loves me and my family. Every person who watched the movie or will watch it, you helped reach here. You serve as the greatest source of motivation for me to keep moving forward.”

He raised the Oscar into the air.

”And of course, thank you to everyone who believed a ghost story could also be a story about people.”

”I’m only getting started, so I’ll keep hustling. Thanks for enduring a child’s nonsense. Goodbye!!” He offered a quick wink to the lens. ”And now, for real, this time. Goodbye!”

The audience burst into laughter once more, appreciating Marvin’s humility and wit. His acceptance speech was filled with sincerity and humor. It struck the perfect balance for a young actor claiming his place in the industry.

A huge round of applause rang out in the theater as his speech ended. A final wave of applause followed Marvin as he stepped off the stage.

The bright lights of the auditorium disappeared behind him, replaced by the controlled chaos of backstage.

Stagehands moved scenery between categories with practiced efficiency. Production assistants hurried between stations with headsets pressed against their ears. Cables snaked across the floor beneath towering lighting rigs.

A handler gently guided Marvin forward.

”Right this way.”

Still clutching the Oscar, he followed her through a maze of curtains, scaffolding, and equipment cases.

Every few steps, someone stopped to congratulate him.

”Congratulations, Marvin.”

”Fantastic speech.”

”Historic win, kid.”

The words blurred together.

Everything still felt slightly unreal, at least that’s how he pretended.

Eventually, the handler led him toward a quieter section behind the main stage.

Several Academy representatives stood beside a long table.

One of them smiled.

”Before the night’s over, we’ll have your name engraved on the statuette.”

Marvin glanced down at the golden figure in his hands.

Only then did reality truly begin to sink in.

His name on another Oscar.

A few minutes later, he was escorted toward the winners’ press room.

The moment he entered, camera flashes erupted.

Photographers lined the rear walls. Television crews jockeyed for position behind rows of seated journalists. Reporters shuffled notes and prepared questions while Academy staff attempted to maintain order.

The room buzzed with anticipation.

Tonight’s youngest winner had arrived.

A handler with a clipboard stood near the podium. She called out numbers to keep the room organized without making it a mess.

”Number twelve!” the handler yelled.

A woman seated in the second row raised her hand. ”Congratulations on the win tonight, Marvin.”

”Thank you,” Marvin replied with a warm smile, setting the Oscar carefully on the podium beside him.
