Reborn As Super Heiress

She didn’t know whether it was because Su Qingqing’s identity was special, or because Huo Sining’s reputation was too big, but not long after she called the police, four or five officers were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Huo Sining had never seen the police respond this fast, and after these officers saw her, they were very polite. They went through the routine questions, then swiftly picked up the thugs lying crisscross all over the ground and packed them up to take away.

Huo Sining drove Su Qingqing to the police station for the routine procedure, ready to give a statement, and as soon as they entered the station they bumped into Director Fu, Fu Yuanshan, whom they hadn’t seen for a long time.

The moment Fu Yuanshan saw Huo Sining and Su Qingqing, his face crumpled into a chrysanthemum, looking like he wanted to cry but had to smile. It was obvious he didn’t want to see Huo Sining and Su Qingqing at all, yet had no choice but to patiently wait on them, so his heart was twisted in knots.

As soon as Huo Sining saw that expression on his face, she knew exactly what he was thinking. She forcibly held back the urge to laugh, put on a serious act, and greeted him:

”Director Fu, long time no see. What a coincidence today—are you down here inspecting the grassroots?”

Inspect my ass. If I hadn’t gotten the call and found out you two aunties had stirred up trouble again, would I have dragged myself all the way out here to deal with it? I’m telling you two ancestors, can you calm down a bit? It’s the third time now you’ve had something happen on my turf—can’t you switch to another place? You can’t just keep plucking wool off the same sheep; who the hell can withstand that?

Fu Yuanshan’s mouth twitched as he cursed nonstop in his heart, but he didn’t dare show a trace of it on his face. He forced a couple of laughs before replying:

”It just so happens we’ve had some new directives issued recently, so I thought I’d come down and see how they’re being implemented, and while I’m at it, check on the progress of a few major cases. I didn’t expect to run into you two. Miss Huo, Miss Su, please have a seat. What kind of tea would you like?”

Fu Yuanshan was clearly treating the two of them as regulars who came by for tea; his tone was practiced and familiar, almost like a tea-house owner.

The corner of Huo Sining’s mouth couldn’t help twitching as well. She hurriedly waved her hands to distance herself:

”No, no, you just focus on your work. This time it’s got nothing to do with me. If we’re talking about victims, Su Qingqing got dragged into this for no reason at all—the disaster literally fell out of the sky. If she didn’t know a bit of fighting, today wouldn’t just be a matter of legitimate self-defense; it probably would’ve turned into a big kidnapping case.”

”I was originally planning to call you, but since you’re here, we don’t need to make that extra effort anymore.”

”You really need to look into this properly, figure out exactly what’s going on. Those thugs definitely don’t know Su Qingqing; she never hangs out with people from that kind of shady crowd and there’s no way she’d have a grudge with them. They were clearly acting under someone’s orders. So, Director Fu, I’ll have to trouble you to put in some extra work and get this case fully investigated.”

Of course Fu Yuanshan knew who Su Qingqing was. Even without Huo Sining sitting there, just on the strength of Su Qingqing being the Secretary’s daughter, he wouldn’t dare slack off. He hastily nodded and promised:

”We’ll definitely investigate this thoroughly. An attempted kidnapping in broad daylight is extremely vile—we absolutely cannot let the mastermind remain at large!”

It never occurred to Fu Yuanshan that this case was just stirred up by a small fry like Ye Zixin. He imagined something far more complicated, assuming that after all these years in office, Secretary Su had inevitably provoked some obscure enemy who was now targeting his family.

Although Fu Yuanshan was somewhat intimidated by power, he was basically a decent man. And over the years, Su Zhenhua had consistently done real work in his post, staying clean and upright and winning a lot of benefits for the common people. So Fu Yuanshan had a very good impression of Su Zhenhua, and naturally couldn’t stand seeing anyone try to harm a clean official like that.

Therefore, when it came to Su Qingqing’s case, Fu Yuanshan took it very seriously. After hearing the statements from Su Qingqing and Huo Sining, he immediately arranged emergency manpower to handle the case quickly, determined to get to the bottom of it in the shortest time possible.

Huo Sining and Su Qingqing exchanged a look, both certain that Ye Zixin definitely wouldn’t be able to run this time, and stopped throwing their weight around at the station. They stood up, ready to take their leave.

Seeing these two big Buddhas about to go, Fu Yuanshan was naturally overjoyed and hurriedly escorted them out.

Once the officers in the station saw the two of them leave, they finally let out a collective sigh of relief, and the previously deathly quiet station gradually returned to its usual lively atmosphere.

Two newly recruited officers who didn’t recognize Huo Sining and Su Qingqing had just watched Fu Yuanshan fawn over them like a grandson, and couldn’t help feeling curious and bewildered. They asked the veteran officer next to them:

”Master, who were those two women just now? They were so full of swagger, and even Director Fu was tiptoeing around them like he was scared to offend them.”

The veteran being asked was surnamed Li. He had been promoted from the Luwan District Police Station two years ago. Back then, he’d only been a district team leader, but it was precisely because a major incident occurred in Luwan District two years ago that the district captain, Liu Ming, was transferred out, and the station chief, He Haidong, was directly dismissed. So as district leader, he had to step up in a crisis and was promoted straight to station chief.

Not long after, he cracked two more significant cases and was directly transferred into the police headquarters, entering the S City Police Department system and finally becoming the criminal investigator he’d always dreamed of being.

Now, seeing his two young disciples looking at him with such curiosity, Officer Liu couldn’t resist telling them about that major case from two years ago that had alarmed the police, government, and military all at once. At the same time, he didn’t forget to warn his disciples never to underestimate anyone, and never to take any seemingly minor player lightly when handling a case. After all, it might be precisely such a small character who could drag them into an abyss they’d never get out of.

Huo Sining herself had no idea that she’d already become the classic cautionary example of the police station. Any new officer entering the system would be briefed on her deeds, and she was practically regarded as a natural disaster.

After she and Su Qingqing left the station, Su Jinyuan and Wu Jun had already gotten the news. Even though they knew Su Qingqing hadn’t been injured, the two of them were still uneasy and rushed over, dropping their work in a panic. Even Gu Xu drove over in the beat-up little car the family’s maid used to buy groceries.

After triple-checking that neither of the two women was hurt, Su Jinyuan and Wu Jun finally relaxed.

Su Jinyuan couldn’t help flicking Su Qingqing hard on the forehead:

”Are you an idiot? You knew that Ye Zixin’s been up to no good lately, and you still didn’t stay on guard? When a person like that is pushed to the wall, there’s nothing they won’t do. If she hadn’t hired such weaklings today, if those thugs had had electric batons or knockout drugs or some other serious tools, do you think you’d have gotten away unscathed? You’ve gotten way too slack—you’re practically drunk on your own success!”
