Reborn As Super Heiress

Huo Sining hung up the phone and played with her daughter for a while. Only after the little one finally fell asleep did she find the time to sit in front of Gu Xu, carrying a mix of nostalgia, puzzlement, and indescribable sorrow, she cautiously asked:

”Gu Xu, have you heard of Buzhou Mountain?”

Gu Xu was drying his hair after a shower, and paused, somewhat puzzled, giving Huo Sining a look: ”Are you talking about Buzhou Mountain from ancient mythology and legends? I think I saw it in books back in school, why do you ask so suddenly?”

Seeing Gu Xu genuinely confused, Huo Sining grew more uncertain. The scenes from her past life she dreamt of on the day she gave birth were absolutely real. Gu Xu had found Buzhou Mountain with her pendant after she was heartlessly slain and sunk to the sea bottom, leading to her reincarnation and reunion with Gu Xu.

Yet now, Gu Xu seemed to remember nothing about Buzhou Mountain. Could it be the incantation chanted by that old Taoist, destroyed the seal on her Jiao Pearl and erased Gu Xu’s memories and immortal bone?

Huo Sining furrowed her brows, persisted further: ”What about Xuan Xu Zi, Wei Yang, Cang Hai Biluo, do you have any impression of a Taoist Temple-like place?”

Gu Xu looked at Huo Sining bewilderedly: ”Honey, what’s going on, what nonsense are you saying, I don’t understand any of it?”

Huo Sining felt a pang of frustration, recalling the strange smile of Xuan Xu Zi when he activated the magic artifact, and the conversation between Gu Xu and Xuan Xu Zi.

— The runes on this magic artifact represent the master’s lifetime cultivation, capable of reversing time and reviving life.

— However, this magic artifact can only be used once; if it sends you back, you will forever forget these karmic ties, forgetting even your identity as Yun Xuzi.

This realization struck Huo Sining; likely this life is what Gu Xu sacrificed all to achieve, and the cost was him forgetting past events, discarding decades of reincarnation memories, not even recalling who Wei Yang is.

Were it not for... were it not for their destined reunion amid fate’s workings, their mutual affection might have never blossomed, leaving Gu Xu’s gamble to change fate again short-lived, his desires never fulfilled.

Huo Sining felt a silent dread yet a deep sympathy for Gu Xu.

The man before her was once the pure-hearted Taoist acolyte; how could Huo Sining not be touched? Just for a glimpse, he pursued for a thousand years, perhaps deep in his soul, only one thought prevailed—to be with the Little Jiaoren named Wei Yang.

Even if it cost him millennia of cultivation, he was willing to forsake immortal powers and burst forth from mountains, all just to find that person.

Instinctively, Huo Sining reached out to embrace Gu Xu, gently tracing his brows and eyes, merging those features with the young Taoist acolyte’s innocence, melting her heart completely, leaning forward uncontrollably to kiss the man.

Gu Xu couldn’t understand his wife’s sudden affection but welcomed it warmly; rarely had she initiated intimacy, his joy was overwhelming, and he eagerly relaxed, allowing her to have her way with him.

Huo Sining’s kiss elicited an enthusiastic response from Gu Xu; noticing the desire in his eyes shining like a hungry wolf, the deep emotions within Huo Sining’s heart instantly dissipated. She couldn’t help but laugh out loud, rolling her eyes at Gu Xu, without any intention to pull away, letting themselves tumble onto the bed.

After their passion, Huo Sining reconciled with her emotions, ceasing to dwell on those past lives’ tales, whether she was Huo Sining or Wei Yang, and whether this man was Yun Xuzi or Gu Xu, they were in love now, nothing was more beautiful.

Still, Huo Sining chose to leave the truth unraveled, though Gu Xu seemed to remember something all of a sudden, speaking to Huo Sining: ”About that Xuan Xu Zi and Taoist Temple you asked about, I don’t know much, but I do recall one thing.”

”When I was a kid, I once faced danger, almost losing my life, then a peculiar monk named Miaoshan visited home. He insisted I should join Buddhism, claiming my life would be fraught with danger and only by taking the vows could I ensure safety.”

”You know my grandfather, he only believed in Chairman Mao and Marxism-Leninism, holding feudal superstitions in disdain, detesting both Buddhism and Taoism alike.”

”Upon hearing Miaoshan’s words, he was furious and chased the monk away with anger.”

”Yet, the monk was undeterred, kindly gifting me a string of Nianzhu beads, suggesting that if I wouldn’t join Buddhism, keeping these beads could not resolve imminent perils but might bless me with safety into adulthood.”

”It’s odd, at first I hardly cared about those beads, but one day I accidentally wore them, and it saved me from a car accident. There were four people in the car—myself in the passenger seat—when a truck almost crushed our car, severely injuring the driver and passengers, leaving me unscathed.”

”I felt something shielded me, but the incident felt mysterious, uncertain if it was an illusion, never shared it until now. Nonetheless, I’ve kept those beads close ever since, afraid to take them off lightly.”

Hearing this, Huo Sining was startled, wide-eyed towards Gu Xu; she was unaware of such things and even the name of Monk Miaoshan felt familiar, sparking recognition as if heard before.

”Let me see your string of Nianzhu beads!”

Huo Sining had been with Gu Xu for quite some time but hadn’t noticed his bead-wearing habit, growing curious and intuitively sensing this Nianzhu might relate to the magic artifact she witnessed at Buzhou Mountain Taoist Temple.

Gu Xu held nothing from Huo Sining, promptly retrieving the beads from his change of clothes in the bathroom, directly handing them to his wife.

As Huo Sining took the Nianzhu beads, clarity flashed in her eyes.

Indeed, this Nianzhu is the magic artifact handed to Gu Xu by Xuan Xu Zi in their past life. Yet, in the dream, those beads carried carved runes and inscriptions, while now they appear smooth, showing no trace of markings.
