Reborn As Super Heiress

Gu Xu laughed and said, ”The way I escaped was a bit chaotic, and I’m still a bit confused myself. But I’m definitely safe now. I’m at my wife’s former villa near S University. I didn’t have any money or phone before, so I couldn’t get a message to you. The moment I got inside, I called you. Don’t worry, I’m not injured, and I’m doing fine.”

The person on the other end still seemed a bit skeptical about Gu Xu’s words: ”You better be honest, kid. If you’re really hurt, you can’t hide it from the organization. This is no small matter!”

”I’m not lying, I’m fine. Just really hungry, I could eat a whole cow.”

The person on the other end laughed heartily: ”As long as you’re okay, all’s well. Good lad, you truly are General Gu’s son! Alright, I got it. I’ll report your return to Chief Lu so he can quickly recall the patrol warship over there!”

Hearing this, Gu Xu was momentarily stunned: ”What patrol warship?”

The person chuckled: ”You didn’t know? As soon as something happened to you, Chief Lu got the news and ordered Colonel Lu to conduct a sudden drill with officers from the military district. The naval rescue team also took the opportunity to search the sea area where you had the accident.”

”The warship has been out for over ten hours now, and there’s no news yet, but it should have reached the area by now.”

Gu Xu didn’t expect Chief Lu to deploy a warship to find him, making such a grand spectacle. This surprised and somewhat alarmed him:

”Isn’t the Chief being a bit too...”

Gu Xu was about to say that he was just a soldier and there was no need to make such a fuss. If someone with ill intentions exploited this, exposing the real purpose of the military exercise, there might be a huge uproar, which would be bad for the Chief.

However, the person on the other end interrupted him before he could finish, laughing:

”You don’t need to worry about that. The Chief didn’t act without thinking. On one hand, he doesn’t want anything to happen to you, or he wouldn’t be able to explain it to Old Gu. On the other hand, Country F has been acting disobediently in secret, with frequent little moves. If we don’t take some action to deter them, they might really plan on causing trouble.”

”These people are shameless. Be nice to them, and they’ll only push their luck. They’re greedy like a snake trying to swallow an elephant. The deployment of the warship this time might keep them in check for a while!”

This was indeed true. Gu Xu didn’t really think he was that important. Even if something happened to him, the country wouldn’t stop functioning. Chief Lu’s real purpose was likely to intimidate those bastards from Country F, using finding him as a secondary objective!

Thinking this way, Gu Xu felt much more at ease. After chatting with his superior for a bit more, he figured they would inform Chief Lu of his situation, so he didn’t linger and directly hung up the phone. He then thought for a moment before calling his wife.

The phone rang several times before it was answered. On the other end came the long-lost voice of his wife:

”Auntie Li, is there something you need from me? Did something happen at home?”

Gu Xu thought about narrowly escaping death this time and was flooded with emotions. A wave of warmth surged up, and his nose inexplicably felt a bit sour as he spoke:

”Wife, it’s me.”

Huo Sining was taken aback for a moment before she exclaimed in surprise, ”Husband, you’re back? Nothing happened to you, did it? Dad and Brother are all trying to find you. How did you end up in S City?”

Gu Xu didn’t have anything to hide from his wife. He recounted his mission, how he had to parachute into the sea, and escaped, leaving out only the confidential parts of the mission, and told her everything else.

When he talked about the precious egg and the strange dolphin, Huo Sining couldn’t help but laugh:

”I know who that dolphin is. If I’m not mistaken, it should be A Yin. Does it have a scar? Very apparent, right on the side of its head near the fin.”

Gu Xu thought for a moment. It seemed that indeed there was an old white scar on the side of that dolphin’s fin, a sign of past injury: ”Yes, that’s the case.”

Huo Sining couldn’t help but laugh: ”Then it must be A Yin. It got seriously injured once when it was young, and I happened to come across it and healed it with spiritual energy. Unexpectedly, it got attached to me. Every time I go fishing in the sea, it follows the spiritual energy to find me.”

”It was washed by spiritual energy and gained intelligence, so its IQ is much higher than that of an ordinary dolphin. Every time I go out to sea, I always run into it. Qibao loves playing with it and even named it A Yin.”

”I guess this time our son tricked it to that deserted island. Our son’s spiritual energy is the same lineage as mine, so A Yin couldn’t differentiate and thought it was me, so it specifically went over to find me. Bringing you back was just a coincidence.”

Hearing this, Gu Xu was also a bit surprised: ”So, it turns out my life was still saved by you, my wife. Alas, what can I do? Your life-saving grace, I can only repay with my body.”

”Get lost! Where did this stinky man come from? I don’t want him!”

Huo Sining laughed and spat playfully, realizing she hadn’t yet mentioned Yuanyuan. But thinking about how exhausted he must be after a race against life and death, not sleeping for days, and probably immediately calling her for peace of mind once back home.

Knowing Gu Xu’s character, if he knew about the birth of their daughter, he would definitely not be able to rest and would rush back to the Imperial Capital.

Feeling a pang of pity, she also thought that now that he was safely back in the country, seeing his daughter was just a matter of time, no hurry. So she hesitated a bit and decided not to bring it up.

Poor Gu Xu didn’t know that the whole world already knew he had become a father, except for him, the very person involved, who was still in the dark.

The couple exchanged a few more casual words, and since Huo Sining was busy calling the old Gu family residence to inform them of Gu Xu’s safe return, she quickly hung up.

Coincidentally, Auntie Li had started preparing noodles by then. Gu Xu didn’t want to delay further, hurried back upstairs to take a quick military-style shower, changed into clean clothes, and went downstairs. By the time he arrived at the dining room, the big bowl of noodles Auntie Li had cooked was already on the table.

Smelling the familiar aroma, Gu Xu’s appetite soared, and he devoured the whole large bowl of noodles, soup and all, until it was all gone.

Once the noodles were in his stomach, he finally felt that he had truly saved his life. After recounting how he had asked the security guard to pay for his taxi at the neighborhood entrance earlier, he asked Auntie Li to help repay the fare he owed. Then he went wobbly back upstairs to catch up on some much-needed sleep.
