Reborn As Super Heiress

”Moreover, both the safe and the motor are large, conspicuous items. Why would these thieves go to such lengths? Why not just open the safe and take the valuables out? Have you considered this point?”

Janice was stumped by the Deputy Director’s question, her expression froze and she awkwardly replied, ”Maybe the safe’s password is too complicated, and those thieves don’t have the ability to crack the safe’s code...”

After answering, Janice realized her response was full of loopholes.

Those thieves have no ability to decipher the password. However, they carried a cutting tool; if they really wanted the money inside the safe, they could just cut it open. Why go to such lengths to take away the entire safe along with its contents?

The Deputy Director, listening to Janice’s answer, and seeing her unnatural expression, couldn’t help but laugh:

”See, you can’t even convince yourself with that answer, let alone persuade me?”

”Forget about the safe, what about the batch of car engines? Are you going to say it’s because the car engines are valuable?”

Janice remained silent as the Deputy Director continued to ask:

”Even if those engines are expensive, if you were the one entering this warehouse, do you think after acquiring so many valuables, you would still take car parts?”

Janice was stunned. In fact, during her hours at the base, she had been searching for a breakthrough, but had never thought about the deeper meaning. Maybe she had realized the issue subconsciously but avoided delving into it.

But now, with the Deputy Director’s question, she instinctively put herself into the shoes of those thieves, imagining entering the warehouse, quickly gathering and sweeping up the most valuable, easily taken items, then noticing the luxury cars inside before leaving.

After some hesitation and struggle, she eventually decided to give up.

No one would be foolish enough to carry the burden of four or five luxury car engines at such a moment; they would choose quick action, take the spoils, and promptly leave the risky area.

The Deputy Director’s question left Janice speechless, but she still didn’t quite understand the deep meaning behind it, and instinctively asked, ”Director, what do you mean?”

The Deputy Director sighed and said, ”Don’t you understand yet? These thieves aren’t just here for theft; they very likely have some private emotions involved, doing this to disgust and retaliate against Tranleva.”

”These few thieves, daring enough to come and steal with just an off-road vehicle, and not fearing Tranleva’s influence in Mexico, indicates they aren’t doing this just for money!”

”I suspect it’s likely that Tranleva’s opponent or enemy hired them for this job. If we continue investigating, and it leads to other drug lords, there’s bound to be a fierce conflict, and our police will inevitably become involved. When upper management directs displeasure, not only you and I but the entire criminal investigation bureau will be held accountable.”

Janice was still somewhat unwilling, ”But Director, isn’t this a breakthrough? As long as we investigate Tranleva’s enemies, we can catch those thieves. Once we solve the case, the drug lords’ fights are none of our business.”

The Director smiled bitterly, took out a cigarette, lit it quietly, took a deep puff, and then looked at Janice:

”Janice, you’ve been under me for four or five years. I’m well aware of your abilities, your active thinking, and keen observations. You indeed have the potential of a great detective, but you are inexperienced; your nature is too simple. Things aren’t as straightforward as you think.”

”Not to mention, who Tranleva is, do you think he would disclose every detail of his enemies to you, allowing you to investigate? That would be tantamount to revealing his own secrets. Do you think he’s stupid enough to leave such a handle to the police?”

”Moreover, even if we find Tranleva’s enemy and pinpoint the mastermind, what then? The thieves left no trace; without concrete evidence, we can’t prosecute them.”

”Moreover, these drug lords are bold and lawless. If we find anything, Tranleva won’t let it go easily. We might not only fail to serve justice but also trigger a war between drug lords. You only see Tranleva’s current glory but don’t know the hidden and open fights among these drug lords. It’s too deep, more than words can express.”

”I brought you all back, knowing this case is tricky, so let’s avoid it if we can. I think we should hold off for now. This isn’t just for myself, but for my colleagues in the entire bureau.”

Despite her unwillingness, Janice had no words after the Director’s heartfelt speech.

She nodded, indicating she understood what to do.

Seeing his female subordinate finally compromise, the Deputy Director finally reached out to massage his temples, closing his eyes with a helpless expression.

It’s not that he didn’t want to handle such a big case. He knew that solving a major case like this would not only elevate his career but also his subordinates. However, he also knew the risks within this case; wars between drug lords weren’t something small detectives could intervene in.

This Deputy Director rose from a small detective to his current position, solving numerous major cases along the way. With his decades of investigative intuition, he realized they were facing not just ordinary thieves but a group of highly skilled international thieves. At this critical moment, even if he couldn’t get promoted, he absolutely couldn’t end up with nothing.

While this group was weighing the pros and cons, considering the hidden depths, elsewhere, the instigators, Huo Sining, Gu Xu, and their companion, were relaxed, leisurely drinking tea and enjoying afternoon snacks in the hotel restaurant.
