Reborn As Super Heiress

Receiving the set of jewelry that Windsor Reed had given her, Yue Shuwen’s eyes were practically overflowing with envy and couldn’t hide it at all, while Huo Sining accepted this favor from Windsor Reed and happily accepted the gift of thanks.

She hadn’t originally planned to linger in England for long, but just as Huo Sining and the others were preparing to leave, before the three of them had even walked out of Windsor Castle, the butler inside the castle suddenly came rushing out, leaned to Windsor Reed’s ear, and whispered something.

No one knew what had happened, but as soon as Windsor Reed finished listening to the butler, his expression instantly changed drastically; even the butler’s face was full of seriousness and gravity, clearly something big had gone wrong.

Huo Sining couldn’t help feeling curious. She was just about to ask what exactly had happened when Windsor Reed, over there, looked toward her in a somewhat flustered manner:

”Miss Huo, I’m sorry, something urgent has come up on my side that I need to deal with, so I can’t entertain you any longer for the time being. I’ll have someone see you to the airport; I won’t be able to send you off myself.”

As he spoke, Windsor Reed signaled to the old butler beside him, then turned and hurried away.

”Mr. Windsor!” Seeing Windsor Reed’s hurried steps, Huo Sining knew that whatever had happened might be extremely serious. She hadn’t intended to meddle and was just going to leave like that, but in the end she still couldn’t hold back and voiced the doubt in her heart. ”Has something happened? Is there anything I can help with?”

Windsor Reed gave a wry smile and shook his head. ”Miss Huo, something has indeed happened, and it’s a bit troublesome, but I don’t think there’s much you can do to help.”

Huo Sining had only asked out of concern for a good friend. Seeing that Windsor Reed didn’t seem to think she could be of any help, she didn’t press further. She wasn’t arrogant enough to think she could be more formidable than an old Royal family Earl from England. Besides, this was England, entirely Windsor Reed’s home turf; here, Huo Sining knew full well that her connections couldn’t compare to this old man’s.

However, Huo Sining had barely taken a few steps after turning away when Windsor Reed suddenly called out to stop her:

”Wait.”

Huo Sining turned back, looking at Windsor Reed in puzzlement.

Windsor Reed was obviously抱着 the mentality of treating a dead horse as if it were still alive. After hesitating for a moment, he finally spoke:

”Miss Huo, I wonder, do you have any acquaintances in Mexico?”

The last time Huo Sining had narrowly escaped with her life from Mexico, that den of drugs had left an indelible impression on her. Now, suddenly hearing Windsor Reed ask this, she instinctively felt a few degrees more wary, thinking Windsor Reed might have caught some wind of something. She couldn’t help turning back, fixing him with a scrutinizing gaze, and asked:

”What do you mean by that, Mr. Windsor?”

At this moment Windsor Reed’s mind was filled with nothing but urgency, so he naturally didn’t notice the change in Huo Sining’s eyes. A faint bitter smile tugged at his lips as he said:

”I was just asking casually. But come to think of it, asking you about this probably won’t help. I’m just too anxious, that’s why I...”

Huo Sining’s heart sank slightly, and she faintly guessed something. She quickly pressed him: ”Did something happen to Emperor?”

Windsor Reed was silent for a few seconds before a bitter expression appeared on his face. He nodded slightly and said, ”I won’t hide it from you. This time I sent Caesar to Mexico for a diamond mine I own. That mine has been in my hands for over twenty years. We’d never started any extraction before. If it hadn’t been for this diamond exhibition, I wouldn’t have thought of touching it.”

Hearing this, Huo Sining couldn’t help being puzzled. ”But in Philadelphia, didn’t I sell you a batch of diamonds? With those rough diamonds, you could easily take first place at this diamond exhibition. Why did you still have to open the diamond mine?”

Windsor Reed smiled bitterly. ”The decision to develop the diamond mine was put into motion in the second half of last year. Back then, I had no way of knowing I’d be so lucky as to obtain such a large batch of rough diamonds from you, Miss Huo. But once mining development is started, it can’t be casually abandoned. At least not before we hit diamond—until then, we can’t just call it off.”

Even if Windsor Reed hadn’t explained this, Huo Sining would have understood what he meant.

She had seen mining operations before in Myanmar. Although the five great families in Myanmar were mining Jadeite deposits, the basic principles were the same. For gemstone and jade mines, the initial investment is usually huge; tens of millions, even hundreds of millions, are nothing. Once full-scale excavation begins, you absolutely cannot just stop without having dug out what you’re after; otherwise you’re guaranteed to lose money.

Since the mine was one of Windsor Reed’s assets, Huo Sining could understand his thinking. Without digging up rough diamonds, Windsor Reed simply couldn’t give up so easily. As a jeweler, he could only ever feel he didn’t have enough rough diamonds in his hands; he’d never think that securing one batch of diamonds was enough.

So, after the mine in Mexico started excavation, Windsor Reed hadn’t planned on pulling out. He’d personally gone to Mexico several times before, but as the London diamond exhibition drew nearer, Windsor Reed was worried that if he wasn’t in England, he wouldn’t be able to handle any emergencies in time. So this time he stayed in England and sent his son Caesar to Mexico instead.

Who would have thought that it would be this very trip where something went wrong.

”What exactly happened, to make it such a headache for you?”

Windsor Reed said anxiously, ”I don’t yet know the exact details. I only heard from the staff we have stationed there that there was a conflict between the mine and some drug traffickers. They not only took several of our mine employees hostage, but also planted bombs in the mine tunnels. Caesar and a few employees were down there inspecting, and the tunnel collapsed; Caesar and the others were all buried inside.”

Hearing this, Huo Sining’s face also changed drastically. ”That’s serious. Then what are you still waiting for? Hurry over there. My friend and I don’t need you to look after us; we’ll just take a flight straight back to Huaxia.”

Windsor Reed nodded, but then he remembered Huo Sining’s deeds during the Qingya earthquake rescue in Huaxia, and he couldn’t help clinging to a sliver of hope:

”Miss Huo, I rarely ask favors of anyone, but today I’ll shamelessly come to you for one. Caesar counts as a friend of yours as well. If possible, would it be convenient for you to come with me to Mexico?”

Huo Sining was taken aback at his words and instinctively raised her hand to point at herself. ”Me?”

Windsor Reed nodded. ”Yes. If I remember correctly, during the Qingya earthquake, you rescued quite a number of victims. As for your abilities, Miss Huo, I believe there’s no question about them...”
