Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1798: Chapter 1701: Came Up Empty-Handed

After Gu Xu learned that Huo Sining was safe, the icy aura around him finally dissipated.

Both Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian let out a sigh of relief. They exchanged a glance, their eyes revealing a joy of surviving a catastrophe.

God knows, if something had really happened to his sister-in-law, who knows what crazy thing Xu Zi would have done?

Knowing that Huo Sining was in Meishan, the group didn’t delay any further. After Gu Xu found Zheng Lixiang’s phone number, he quickly dialed it. As expected, Zheng Lixiang hadn’t gone to sleep yet. After receiving the call, she told Gu Xu in great detail how she found Huo Sining in Meishan.

”Understood.”

Gu Xu didn’t waste any words with Zheng Lixiang. After hanging up the satellite phone, he headed directly to the location where Huo Sining had been rescuing people. Seeing this, Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian dropped what they were doing and followed him.

However, when the group of five arrived at the place, they found it empty.

”You’re asking about that little girl with the surname Huo? She’s not here. She left around seven or eight in the evening, taking four police officers with her, saying she was going somewhere else to rescue people. That girl is a good person; she was busy all afternoon. It was she who saved my old partner, and she also gave us food and water...”

On the flat ground Zheng Lixiang mentioned, many disaster victims were camped. Gu Xu randomly approached an old granny to inquire and ended up learning about Huo Sining.

After finding out that Huo Sining had left, Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian suddenly became anxious.

Ouyang Jun couldn’t help but mutter: ”What? She’s gone? Sister-in-law is really worrisome. Can’t she just stay here? She has to run around everywhere. Rescuing people is the rescue team’s job. If she insists on doing it, how will others survive?”

Qin Tian didn’t quite agree with this sentiment: ”If she could stay put, would she still be Huo Sining? Haven’t you seen what she’s done these years? Betting on mines, international treasure appraisals, WGC, she didn’t even miss out on the fishing competitions. Do you think she could just sit here and watch those people wait for death? If she were that kind of person, not only Xu Zi, but you and I might not even think much of her either!”

Gu Xu knew what kind of person Huo Sining was. This girl didn’t love the limelight, but she was definitely not someone who would stand by and do nothing when people were dying. If it was something she wasn’t adept at, she would certainly not recklessly take it on. But she understood medicine and even had Qigong Massage Technique at her disposal. In an earthquake disaster area, it was the perfect time for her to showcase her skills and save people. She would never just sit idly by.

”Sigh, having a valiant wife isn’t necessarily a good thing.”

Seeing Gu Xu pursing his lips without saying a word, Qin Tian couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of pity and sympathy. With sister-in-law’s abilities, if she wasn’t rolling up her sleeves and charging forward, she wouldn’t be Huo Sining anymore.

”Forget it, let’s continue searching. Meishan Town isn’t that big anyway. Just ask a few people here and there, and we’ll know where sister-in-law is. We need to see her in person and confirm that she’s really okay before we can truly be at ease. If she really doesn’t want to come back, then Xu Zi, you just keep her by your side to watch over her. It’s better than worrying like this.”

Ouyang Jun also couldn’t help but shake his head, feeling somewhat helpless about this lively sister-in-law.

”Yeah.”

Gu Xu nodded, then asked the old granny about other details before heading in the direction she pointed out, searching further.

However, after searching dryly for more than two hours without finding anyone, even someone as calm as Gu Xu couldn’t keep his composure anymore.

Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he halted in his steps. He said to Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian, ”Go back and ask that old granny again for more clarity.”

Ouyang Jun was a bit puzzled: ”Didn’t you already get the details? What more do you want to ask?”

Gu Xu knotted his brow: ”That old granny said Huo Sining was with several police officers searching for people. Let’s ask what those officers’ names are and which police station they’re from. Following that lead, we might find her.”

Qin Tian’s eyes lit up, and he snapped his fingers, saying: ”Right! Those officers who follow sister-in-law’s orders must know her identity. As long as we find those officers, we’ll find sister-in-law!”

Ouyang Jun couldn’t help but give a thumbs up to Gu Xu.

The group hurriedly rushed back to the flatland, but the old granny also didn’t know the names of those officers. Gu Xu and the others had no choice but to ask other people. This time, although they didn’t find out the officers’ names, they did learn something else.

”Those officers were brought by Zhao Si, who even boasted about taking down that girl with the surname Huo. But later on, I don’t know what happened, a woman with the surname Zheng came over, said a few words to those officers, and suddenly they became mellow. Afterward, those four officers went back to the police station, changed their clothes, and came back, saying they were going to follow that girl with the surname Huo to rescue people, and then they left.”

A middle-aged woman who had been waiting for rescue on the flatland gossiped, not forgetting to curiously eye Gu Xu and his group, ”Are you here looking for that girl with the surname Huo? What’s your relation to that girl?”

”Zhao Si?” Ouyang Jun immediately raised his eyebrows, ”Who is this guy? So arrogant?”

The woman carefully glanced around, then lowered her voice and nervously said: ”You guys are outsiders, right? You wouldn’t be familiar with Zhao Si. I’m from Meishan Town, and I often hear his name. This guy is the director of the justice bureau, not a big official, but his family has a backer who seems to be the second in command of Shu Province. Because of this, the Zhao family can do whatever they want in this area of Meishan. Even the mayor of Meishan has to be courteous to the Zhao family members.”

Qin Tian and Ouyang Jun exchanged a glance and couldn’t help but sneer: ”So impressive? Then we must see for ourselves!”

Gu Xu coldly glanced at Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian. The two were just about to ask more about Zhao Si when confronted with Gu Xu’s chilly gaze, they immediately clamped their mouths shut.

It was only then that Gu Xu asked, ”Do you know which police station those officers are from?”

”That I do know.” The woman nodded, ”It’s the Meishan Town Police Station. You just go this way, cross that street ahead, and head straight to the end, and you’ll see it.”

Gu Xu nodded, thanked the woman, then thought for a moment and pulled out his wallet from his backpack, taking out a thousand yuan and stuffing it into her hand.

The group hurriedly rushed to the police station. Along the way, Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian were still very interested in this Zhao Si, feeling quite dissatisfied that Gu Xu interrupted their inquiry about him.
