Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1767: Chapter 1669: Secret

”Didn’t they say that Zhang Ziyi hasn’t acted in domestic films since she started participating in Hollywood movies? Why did she come back when her career abroad was going so well?”

Huo Sining was an outsider to the industry, so she was quite puzzled as she didn’t understand the underlying reasons.

”Maybe the intention isn’t really about going to the bar,” Xie Yuxing looked up and glanced at Zhang Ziyi, answering vaguely.

Huo Sining didn’t understand Xie Yuxing’s words and instinctively asked, ”What?”

Xie Yuxing smiled and shook her head, not continuing the topic.

Zhang Ziyi’s affection for Shangguan Zhuo was something Xie Yuxing discovered by accident years ago during a film shoot.

It happened in the hotel where the film crew was staying, and Xie Yuxing’s room was not far from Shangguan Zhuo’s.

That day, exhausted from filming, Xie Yuxing skipped dinner and went straight to sleep, but was woken up by hunger in the middle of the night, and hurriedly got dressed to go out and get something to eat.

No sooner had she opened the door and was about to leave than she heard Zhang Ziyi confessing to Shangguan Zhuo.

Xie Yuxing wasn’t the type to meddle, so upon hearing the confession, she didn’t wait to hear Shangguan Zhuo’s reply; she quietly closed the door and returned to her bed.

After all, such matters are private between two people, and it’s awkward if a third person finds out.

Especially since Zhang Ziyi is someone who cares a lot about her image, Xie Yuxing naturally didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere.

However, later on there was no news of Shangguan Zhuo being with Zhang Ziyi.

In fact, Xie Yuxing and Shangguan Zhuo were once fellow disciples, so their relationship was fairly good. Xie Yuxing had even subtly asked him if he had a girl he liked.

At that time, Shangguan Zhuo said that if he were to marry, he’d marry someone outside the industry and didn’t want to find someone within the circle.

Though Xie Yuxing wasn’t sure if Shangguan Zhuo was just saying it casually or jokingly, she understood his attitude; it was clear he wasn’t interested in Zhang Ziyi.

Thinking of this, Xie Yuxing couldn’t help but glance at Shangguan Zhuo, and sure enough, she saw his displeased expression.

Judging by his reaction, Shangguan Zhuo wasn’t pleased with Zhang Ziyi’s sudden appearance.

Falling flowers have intentions but flowing water is heartless; Zhang Ziyi made great efforts to get close, but Shangguan Zhuo remained unmoved.

Xie Yuxing couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, seeing Shangguan Zhuo’s attitude, fearing that Zhang Ziyi’s painstaking efforts might go in vain again.

Xie Yuxing didn’t explicitly state Zhang Ziyi’s reason for joining ”The Legend of the Mermaid” crew, but after spending some time there, Huo Sining gradually figured it out.

”Cut!” After the scene was over, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Huo Sining emerged from the pool, and Shangguan Zhuo quickly reached out to pull her out of the water, his gaze lingering on her slightly pale face, before draping his clean clothes over Huo Sining’s shoulders.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Huo Sining was about to refuse when, coincidentally, Zhang Ziyi, who was watching from outside the scene, saw this and her face immediately darkened.

Huo Sining hadn’t paid much attention to Zhang Ziyi, but as a woman, her instincts combined with the effect of the Water-Repelling Pearl quickly made her notice something in Zhang Ziyi’s eyes.

Envy, jealousy, resentment, anger—various complex emotions were vividly displayed in Zhang Ziyi’s gaze, making Huo Sining instinctively feel something was wrong. She immediately stepped back a few paces, subconsciously keeping a certain distance from Shangguan Zhuo.

At this moment, Zhang Ziyi said something to the assistant beside her, who quickly picked up the hot coffee and ran over:

”Cheuk, the coffee Amy brought for you.”

”Sorry, I’ve been having insomnia lately, so I’m not drinking coffee.”

Shangguan Zhuo’s expression remained indifferent, not even glancing at the little assistant in front of him, as he passed her by and headed outside.

Rejected by Shangguan Zhuo, the assistant’s face instantly froze, turning to look at Zhang Ziyi, who tightened her lips and lowered her eyelids in silence.

Standing nearby, Huo Sining paused as she watched this scene, suddenly realizing something, she looked over at Zhang Ziyi.

She suddenly remembered that the time Zhang Ziyi returned to develop her career in the previous life seemed to coincide with the fallout between Shangguan Zhuo and Su Lingxue, the exposure of their fake CP, fans on both sides clashing, Shangguan Zhuo ending his contract with Huan Rui, and Zhang Ziyi unexpectedly announcing her return to support Shangguan Zhuo.

This...

A glow of realization brightened Huo Sining’s eyes, feeling she had stumbled upon some incredible insider gossip.

However, even though she understood the reason for Zhang Ziyi’s sudden entrance into the crew, Huo Sining didn’t gossip about it with Xie Yuxing or others. Firstly, she was not one to chatter; secondly, she believed that regardless of Zhang Ziyi’s feelings for Shangguan Zhuo, it was personal and not her place to spread it around.

Huo Sining thought she had discovered a huge secret, not knowing that Xie Yuxing was already aware of the situation; Zhang Ziyi’s feelings for Shangguan Zhuo were no secret.

Zhang Ziyi’s ability to thrive in Hollywood was certainly not because she was just a pretty face; her acting skills were undeniable, having endured hardships in America over the years. Bai Ling’s role required reshooting many close-up scenes, and without any direction or script analysis, Zhang Ziyi understood what she needed to perform just by watching Su Lingxue’s previous footage.

Then, over the next half month, she was the fastest in reshooting, completing each scene in one take, and her performance was significantly better than Su Lingxue’s exaggerated acting.

”Zhang Ziyi’s success in Hollywood, earning so much admiration from Europe and America, truly wasn’t mere talk!”

Even Xie Yuxing, a person so critical of acting skills, had to genuinely admire Zhang Ziyi.

Xie Yuxing once saw Zhang Ziyi as a rival, thinking countless times during school about outshining Zhang Ziyi, but as years passed, she realized how silly those thoughts had been.

A woman like Zhang Ziyi is naturally suited for the entertainment industry and the silver screen, while indeed hard work cannot be overlooked, innate talent is something bestowed by heaven; despite all of Xie Yuxing’s efforts, she could never match Zhang Ziyi, destined to be a step below.

While Zhang Ziyi reshot the scenes previously cut of Su Lingxue, Huo Sining and Gu Xu also communicated with Huan Rui regarding Su Lingxue’s attempt to frame Huo Sining, to finalize the matter.

Previously, Huan Rui’s upper management, considering Xu Shaoqing’s influence, had indeed planned to heavily promote Su Lingxue, but with new artists continuously emerging in the entertainment industry, Huan Rui wasn’t fool enough to be tied down to one talent. Su Lingxue brought troubles upon herself, and naturally Huan Rui wouldn’t accompany her in making them. Faced with such a scandal, Huan Rui’s best choice was to eliminate Su Lingxue and maintain composure.
