Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 948: Chapter 944: Huanghuali = Wooden Cart?

The old man’s pupils suddenly contracted, and a look of shock and astonishment appeared in his eyes. Finally, his gaze settled on the thick stack of banknotes that Huo Sining was holding, confirming the authenticity of the situation, and only then did he realize he wasn’t dreaming.

The old man’s hands trembled slightly as he raised his head to look at Huo Sining incredulously and asked, a little uncertainly, ”You... really want to buy it?”

Huo Sining nodded with a smile, ”I’m not going to hide it from you, this is an old item, and I’d like to buy it for research. If you don’t want to, I won’t force you, but this thing is really a bit wasted here with you...”

As she spoke, Huo Sining’s gaze drifted to the cart, seeing the already broken shafts of the wagon, and a hint of regret unconsciously appeared in her eyes.

Over there, Nara Nigawa was doing simultaneous translation. When the old man heard Huo Sining say, ”If you don’t want to,” he got anxious and, not waiting for Nara Nigawa to finish translating, eagerly nodded and said, ”I agree, I agree, two million, this cart and these porcelains are yours.”

Before Huo Sining could react, the old man directly reached out and pulled the stack of banknotes from Huo Sining’s hand, then hurriedly walked into the alley, disappearing around a corner.

It wasn’t until the old man vanished from sight that Huo Sining regained her senses, and her forehead couldn’t help but sweat profusely. She turned to look at Nara Nigawa and Song Chaojing, feeling a bit frustrated and somewhat amused.

Song Chaojing and Nara Nigawa were also at a loss about what had happened. Especially when they turned back to see this dilapidated wooden cart and the worthless pots and pans on it, they were even more puzzled, completely unaware of what trick Huo Sining was up to.

Huo Sining also thought to herself that she was being impulsive. She was excited when buying it, but now that she had it, she had no idea how to handle the cartload of items.

She couldn’t very well place them directly into her Space in front of Song Chaojing and Nara Nigawa, that would be too foolish.

Huo Sining’s mouth twitched involuntarily, reflecting on her miscalculation. However, since things were as they were, even her regret was useless. Bracing herself, she smiled wryly at the two of them and said, ”Mr. Nara, will your car be able to fit this?”

Of course, it wouldn’t fit. In the end, all three of them had to unload the porcelain from the cart and stack them by the roadside, then found a sign to write ”Free porcelain, one per person” on it. The usually suave Nara owner, rolled up his sleeves and transformed into a carpenter, starting to dismantle the cart in plain view.

Once the cart was dismantled into small parts, and packed piece by piece into the back of a private car, Huo Sining let out a heavy sigh of relief.

Free stuff never lacks takers. Once a couple of tourists accidentally discovered the porcelain, word spread quickly, and in less than half an hour, all the items had been claimed.

Back in the car after all the porcelain had been given away, neither Song Chaojing nor Nara Nigawa asked Huo Sining about her intentions. Their trust in her made Huo Sining feel quite embarrassed, as if keeping the secret from them was a bit dishonest.

”This cart is made of rosewood,” Huo Sining said after a moment of hesitation.

”Oh,” Nara Nigawa and Song Chaojing responded without a second thought. Suddenly, they seemed to realize what they had just heard, and with a look of astonishment, they simultaneously turned to Huo Sining, asking almost in unison, ”What did you just say?”

Huo Sining smiled and nodded, ”If I’m not mistaken, this wooden cart should be made of Huanghuali wood.”

Nara Nigawa slammed on the brakes, causing the car to screech to a halt by the roadside.

Huanghuali, also known as Dalbergia odorifera, is famed for its striking golden color and warm sheen, with the heartwood being darker and reddish-brown or dark brown. It’s counted among China’s four famous woods along with Zitan, Jichimu, and Tielimu.

Because of its extremely stable nature, Huanghuali resists warping, cracking, or bending regardless of temperature, and it has a certain flexibility, allowing it to be used for various types of stylish furniture.

Revered for its understated elegance, this wood is considered a top choice for crafting wooden furniture, particularly in the Ming and Qing hard-wood furniture, where the bourgeois and literary class held strict aesthetic criteria, making furniture from this era exceptional, earning it the status of precious artifacts in world home art history.

Huo Sining, in the old mansion left to her by Liang Ruining, had seen high-class Huanghuali furniture; nearly every piece of redwood furniture there was a masterpiece. That was why someone had once coveted the mansion, prompting the Huang Family to specially arrange for Uncle Tong to guard it.

However, she had only ever heard of Huanghuali being used for furniture, never for making a wooden cart.

Nara Nigawa’s antique shop specialized in miscellaneous items, including several small Zitan and Huanghuali carvings, so he had some understanding of Huanghuali;

Song Chaojing, from a prominent Gambling King hereditary family, and a wealthy heiress, certainly would not be so uninformed. There was a specially made Huanghuali rocking chair in Song Lifeng’s study, so she was well aware of its value;

Both knew Huanghuali was scarce, so upon hearing Huo Sining’s words, they were slightly stunned. After exchanging glances, realizing something profound, they quickly ran out of the car, opened the trunk, and took out one of the small wooden shafts.

Nara Nigawa carefully scraped off the paint on the surface of the wooden shaft, and a unique, subtle fragrance from the Dalbergia genus wafted through the air.

The scent of Dalbergia is not as rich or long-lasting as Agarwood. With regular Dalbergia, the fragrance fades over time unless a new cut is made to release the aroma.

However, with Thousand-year-old Dalbergia, the fragrance is so rich that even waxing can’t seal it, and compared to regular Dalbergia, the old lumber offers a fragrance that’s richer and more refined.

Therefore, upon revealing the layers of paint on the wooden shaft and inhaling the rich old-sandalwood aroma, Nara Nigawa’s complexion changed notably. His gaze was fixed on the wood, and inwardly waves of astonishment crashed.

Song Chaojing might not understand, but Nara Nigawa knew perfectly well what this rich scent signified!
