Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 940: Chapter 936: Unlucky Osaka Mother and Child

Mrs. Kosaka insisted it was the work of someone familiar, refusing to believe in the supernatural, but unexpectedly that afternoon her son finally woke up. The first thing he shouted after regaining consciousness was ”Ghost!” with a terrified expression on his face as if he had seen something extremely horrifying.

This time Mrs. Kosaka had no choice but to believe. Seeing her son trembling, clearly frightened out of his wits, she couldn’t help but wonder, could it really be a ghost encounter?

After Xiaoban Zhengxiong woke up, he started babbling nonsense about old buildings, smashing flower pots, female ghosts eating people, and other gibberish, then he developed a high fever and was completely unwell.

Mrs. Kosaka dared not ask her son what exactly happened any further and could only wait until he recovered from the fever to discuss it.

Because the paint on Xiaoban Zhengxiong’s face wouldn’t come off, Mrs. Kosaka felt ashamed and didn’t dare take him to the hospital. He was delirious with a high fever, unable to take any antipyretic medicine, so they could only endure it. It took a week before the fever finally subsided. After all that torment, he appeared even more gaunt, with protruding cheekbones, looking neither human nor ghost, and more wretched.

As for Huo Sining, originally she didn’t plan to pay any more attention to Xiaoban Zhengxiong’s situation, but unexpectedly, her prank encountered unexpected help from a group of people.

The humorous scene at the Kosaka Convenience Store that morning was captured by a busybody from Sota University and posted on the school’s forum, which caused a stir, and a lot of people were discussing it.

Later, someone started revealing that several senior students had once worked part-time at the Kosaka Convenience Store. It was said that not only did the owner’s son bully female employees, but also harassed children, and that the store owner evaded taxes and sold counterfeit goods.

This made the situation serious, with the post pinned on the school forum for several days, quickly attracting the attention of the Shinjuku Police. Just as Mrs. Kosaka was wondering why her store’s business was getting worse over the week, suddenly, several uniformed police officers arrived.

”Mrs. Kosaka, there has been a report of tax evasion and counterfeit goods at your store, and your son is accused of child harassment. Please come with us for a police investigation.”

An event as significant as the police arriving quickly spread; the Kosaka Convenience Store was just on a street near Sota University, so this incident naturally reached Hinata Chinatsu’s ears very quickly.

Upon learning that the Kosaka Convenience Store was shut down and that the Kosaka mother and son were being investigated, Hinata Chinatsu was initially surprised but soon calmed down and remarked in a satisfying tone, ”People like that deserve it!”

Indeed deserved, Huo Sining originally thought Xiaoban Zhengxiong bullied Hinata Chinatsu just because she was timid. Unexpectedly, the scum had done so many bad things before, and it turned out his mother was no better. It seems she did a good deed this time.

The prank came to a close, and Huo Sining no longer paid attention to the final outcome, instead setting her sights on her plans to treasure-hunt across various counties.

Hinata Chinatsu also smoothly entered Nara Nigawa’s grocery store as a cashier. Although she was timid, she was very eager to learn. After entering the grocery store, she fell in love with the antique and handicraft items displayed there. While aiding Nara Nigawa in managing the store’s business, she began reading books to learn the basics of antiques and crafts.

Without formal systematic education, Nara Nigawa knew very well that relying solely on Hinata Chinatsu’s self-study was unlikely to bear fruit in the short term. However, nobody would discourage a diligent and eager-to-learn child. Seeing Hinata Chinatsu so earnest made Nara Nigawa happy, and he would occasionally take time to teach her, imparting some experience and lessons.

After half a month in Dongdu, Huo Sining and Nara Nigawa finally found time; they planned together to follow a map, first touring Kanto.

The Kanto area developed around Dongdu and is generally located in the central part of Dongyang. The first stop for Huo Sining and Nara Nigawa was in the bustling Taito Ward. There is a particularly prosperous area here, not far from the Higashimiya TV Tower, said to be the top shrine and temple visit site in Dongdu, because there is a famous spot here – Sensoji Temple.

Sensoji Temple, also known as Kaminarimon Kannon Temple, originated in the 14th century. It is said that the reason for its formation was because two brothers, who made a living by fishing, discovered a Guanyin statue in the Sumida River and built a temple to enshrine it.

Hearing Nara Nigawa’s explanation, Huo Sining was somewhat dismissive.

Impression-wise, Huo Sining seemed to recall reading an article about the Guanyin who refused to leave, telling a story about Master Huie, a Buddhist monk from the Tang Dynasty who came to Huaxia Country to seek scriptures. He saw a statue of the Guanyin Bodhisattva at Mount Wutai and was very fond of it, so he requested the Emperor to gift it to Dongying.

The Emperor agreed, and the head monk of the temple also consented. Master Huie took the statue back to Dongying, but unexpectedly, near Mount Putuo, the previously calm sea suddenly became turbulent, and after several attempts, they couldn’t cross.

Ultimately, the group transporting the statue unanimously concluded that the Guanyin Bodhisattva was unwilling to go to Dongying, only wishing to stay at Mount Putuo. Master Huie had no choice but to enshrine the Guanyin Bodhisattva at Meizen Mountain, and since then, Mount Putuo began its Buddhist establishment, gradually becoming the world’s renowned Guanyin pilgrimage site.

It was because of this story that Huo Sining found it amusing. The Dongyang people couldn’t acquire the Secret Color Porcelain Guanyin Treasure, so they invented one out of thin air in their own territory, then built a temple for the people to worship.

Unfortunately, even the Dongyang people themselves didn’t believe in this fabricated Buddha and would rather travel far to Huaxia Country to purchase those bronze statues, believing that because these ancient Buddhas had been worshipped in ancient Huaxia, they were more efficacious than Dongyang’s, their love and admiration overflowing.

As they walked into the temple, indeed as Nara Nigawa mentioned, the throngs of devotees never ceased. In one corner of the temple stood a five-story pagoda, and inside Kannon Temple were numerous statues of various gods. Some Dongyang elderly women worshiped one statue after another.

Huo Sining’s gaze swept over these people, without saying anything, but in her heart, she felt uneasy.

She didn’t disdain these worshippers but doubted if these people, who prayed day and night, truly understood the true meaning of Buddhism? Without courage to face history and repent for their sins, what talk is there of the Buddhist law to save all beings? Perhaps inviting an empty shell but failing to learn the compassionate way of the Living Buddha is the real concern.
