Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 909: Chapter 905: Half-Day Tour in Dongdu

As soon as they exited the gate, the teachers from Waseda University were already there to assist. Among these teachers was a Huaxia person who had just immigrated to Dongyang, and they spoke both Dongyang and Huaxia Mandarin quite well. Acting as a translator and leader, they made the students, many of whom were traveling abroad for the first time, feel at ease, almost as if they were still in Huaxia Country.

After leaving the airport, two buses were waiting at the entrance, organized by Waseda to take the students to the university.

Once they processed their student IDs and enrollment certificates at the international student center, they began settling into the student dormitories.

The student dormitory rooms were for two people; Huo Sining was sharing with a Dongyang girl named Hinata Chinatsu.

This arrangement took into account that exchange students were new to the environment and would need to navigate many things. The university was concerned that exchange students might face lifestyle issues, so they assigned each exchange student a Dongyang roommate who could speak fairly fluent Huaxia to help them with daily problems and to act as a translator, quickly integrating them into the Dongyang atmosphere.

Hinata Chinatsu was a very enthusiastic and adorable girl, much like the kind and sincere neighbor girl in anime. After Huo Sining introduced herself, Hinata Chinatsu excitedly brought out sushi and a bento she made and invited Huo to try them.

Huo Sining had no resistance to adorable girls, especially after seeing the lovingly prepared bento, immediately feeling goodwill towards the girl in front of her and offering some snacks she brought from home in exchange with Hinata Chinatsu.

After a brief interaction, Hinata Chinatsu wanted to continue speaking with Huo Sining, but suddenly a girl came running in a hurry from outside, with a backpack and running shoes, shouting into the dorm for Hinata Chinatsu, ”ひなた or ヒナタ, hurry up or you’ll be late.”

The other girl spoke in Japanese, and Huo Sining only understood that the first part was calling for Hinata; the rest was too fast for her to catch. While she wondered about the meaning, the girl had already bolted downstairs like a gust of wind.

”Oh no.” After glancing at her watch, Hinata Chinatsu’s face showed a flustered expression as she grabbed a backpack from her bed and rushed out.

She remembered she had a new roommate from Huaxia Country only when she was putting on her shoes at the shoe cabinet, so she turned back to bow and apologize to Huo Sining:

”Sorry, Huo Sining-san, I work at a nearby convenience store, and I’m running out of time. I need to dash out, or I’ll get docked pay for being late. Feel free to use anything in the dorm, and I’ll take you to explore the night market when I return tonight.”

Before Huo Sining could respond, Hinata had already dashed away like a whirlwind.

Huo Sining couldn’t help but feel amused; she was planning to say she was going out too, but Hinata had already vanished.

This situation did not surprise Huo Sining, because during the pre-departure briefing, the school mentioned that unless the family was particularly well-off, ordinary Dongyang university students would have their tuition covered by their family, but they would need to earn their living expenses themselves. Most workplaces for student jobs were convenience stores, pubs, or restaurants, which was a common phenomenon in Dongyang.

In the briefing, school teachers also encouraged exchange students to leave the campus and, like normal Dongyang university students, enter society for internship experiences.

In fact, coming to Dongyang as an exchange student was part of the school’s exchange program, but it also required a considerable expense during this period. The school covered tuition, accommodation, and round-trip airfare for the students, but living expenses needed to be self-funded.

The cost of living in Dongdu is not low. Even if thrifty, it requires at least fifty thousand yen a month, approximately four thousand RMB. For students from average families, such high expenses can indeed be overwhelming.

For this reason, the school encouraged students to take up part-time jobs, which could help them earn their living expenses and alleviate their family’s financial burden. They also hoped that this experience would allow students to work and live among locals as ordinary people, quickly integrating into the Dongyang environment and gaining a deep understanding and feeling for Dongyang culture and lifestyle.

But with only a little over three months, Huo Sining wasn’t planning on spending her time on such matters. She came to Dongyang with a schedule and plan already prepared.

At Waseda, exchange students don’t have a separate class; they are integrated into the current classes, following the regular students’ curriculum for required courses. However, the requirements for exchange students are more relaxed, with not many courses in a week, primarily focusing on interaction with other students.

Extracurricular activities are abundant, but the schedule is relatively leisurely, allowing exchange students to organize their own time outside of class.

Huo Sining was initially planning to have Hinata Chinatsu act as her guide for going out. Now that she was gone, there was nothing else to do but shrug, take her computer out from her storage ring, connect to the dorm’s network, and search for a Dongdu half-day tour guide, checking the map to create her own sightseeing route.

After notifying her friends and family in S City and the Imperial Capital that she arrived safely, Huo Sining set off lightly with a backpack.

Though she was unfamiliar with the place and its people, she didn’t feel afraid. The school had arranged for ”permission for activities outside of qualification” for the exchange students, and many were eager to venture out with their new roommates to search for jobs. Huo Sining, on the other hand, boldly took her activity proof and walked out of Waseda University to begin her first day’s plan.

Explore Dongdu!

Dongyang is composed of one metropolis and forty-three prefectures, subdivided into cities, towns, and villages. Dongdu, where Huo Sining is, is the capital of Dongyang Island Country and her first stop on this Dongyang journey.

Waseda University has five campuses, and the North Kyushu location where Huo Sining is based is in the city center. Her first sightseeing spot was to ascend the Shinjuku Metropolitan Building to overlook the whole city of Dongdu.

Though the Shinjuku Metropolitan Building isn’t very tall, with only 45 floors, it stands on higher ground than other locations, allowing for an unmatched view over Tokyo.

The weather in Dongdu was clear in October, with high visibility, so standing at the highest point in Dongdu, one could see Shinjuku Gyoen, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, Yoyogi Park, and Tokyo Tower, as well as the Rainbow Bridge spanning Tokyo Bay and Mount Fuji in the distance.

After leaving the Shinjuku Metropolitan Building, Huo Sining then visited the Outer Garden of the Eastern Capital Imperial Palace and Nijubashi, finally taking a cruise on Eastern Capital Bay that brought her to Ginza.
