Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 920: Chapter 916: Taobao Plan

Getting so excited about visiting a night market, really...

Huo Sining didn’t want to criticize the small country’s lack of worldly experience, but at this moment, she truly felt this way deep down.

However, there are indeed many varieties of delicious food in Dongyang. Walking into the brightly lit area, a multitude of aromas assailed her senses. Besides Dongyang fried noodles, takoyaki, Osaka-style pancakes, skewers, and more, you might find almost any food you can think of here.

Cotton candy, taffy, malt candy, even ramune; you can find those nostalgic childhood foods in Dongyang as well.

In the food stalls here, you can hardly smell greasy smoke. Even though these stalls are densely lined up on the street, the air is filled only with the aroma of food, and the smell of oil and smoke is very faint.

This is related to the eating habits of Dongyang. Although the dishes are rich, they do not use oil for cooking.

As for why, one explanation is that the expression ”big and careless” from Huaxia was translated into ”oil is the greatest enemy” in Dongyang. Therefore, Dongyang people believe that not using oil prevents unexpected crises.

Another explanation is that Dongyang was deeply influenced by Huaxia’s Confucian philosophy, which advocates harmony. Due to this, Dongyang people view slaughtering animals for food as unkind. Additionally, with few plains, livestock is difficult to raise, so they rarely eat beef or lamb.

After World War II, knowing the high nutritional value of beef, Dongyang people gradually began eating it. Lamb can only be found in a few places like Hokkaido.

Dongyang’s dishes are rarely processed into cooked food, especially vegetables, which are often eaten raw. The people of Dongyang prioritize ”color, shape, taste” in their dishes. Flavor is secondary, but all dishes must look visually appealing, so some say Dongyang cuisine is for the eyes, not the mouth.

Whether or not Dongyang cuisine uses oil is not important, but to say that they eat little or no meat due to the idea of ”harmony being precious” is something Huo Sining cannot believe or agree with.

Mentioning past grievances, Dongyang’s impression on Huaxia people seemed cannibalistic, with the massacre of hundreds of thousands of Huaxia people in Nanjing leaving an indelible hatred in the heart of every Huaxia child.

Only because after liberation the Huaxia people were busy restoring production and strengthening national power, developing the economy, that they haven’t settled accounts with Dongyang.

”When will revenge and retribution ever end?” This is the true Confucian thought of Huaxia. It’s laughable that learning to eat vegetarian makes Dongyang people think they grasp the essence of Confucianism, and doing such superficial work is just hypocritical. True faith in Confucianism comes from genuine kindness, learning tolerance and forgiveness, understanding propriety, righteousness, integrity, and shame.

Of course, reasoning is one thing, but Huo Sining wasn’t here to hold a denunciation meeting; she came to visit the night market. Even if she internally despised Dongyang people’s hypocrisy, she had to adhere to local customs on this island.

Dongyang cuisine not having oil has some benefits, like being light in taste and not feeling greasy no matter how much you eat.

But after all, it’s foreign food; even if the snacks look visually appealing, well-coordinated on every plate, not every snack is easy for Huo Sining to stomach.

Huo Sining, having grown up in Bashu, could never forget the taste of home from the place she lived for decades. Dongyang snacks aren’t monotonous, but the flavor didn’t quickly suit Huo Sining.

Sushi and sashimi are said to be Dongyang’s most characteristic traditional snacks. Hinata Chinatsu especially loved these two foods, but Huo Sining could barely finish a bite before giving up, finally finding a fragrant spicy teppanyaki and oden to barely reclaim a bit of taste.

At such times, Huo Sining misses the bean paste and old Bashu pickles from home. Eating hot pot, these two are the perfect ingredients to enhance flavor and stimulate appetite.

Huo Sining had these two items in her Storage Space, specifically prepared before coming to Dongyang. But now she couldn’t shamelessly take them out in front of Hinata Chinatsu.

After returning from a feast at the night market, Hinata Chinatsu was so full she kept rubbing her stomach, but Huo Sining was visibly disinterested, only because she wasn’t full.

While Hinata Chinatsu was out delivering packed snacks to the girl who asked her to go to work together earlier, Huo Sining quickly took out a box of steaming dragon wontons from her storage ring and devoured them.

In preparation for possible acclimatization issues, Huo Sining had prepared plenty of food. She rummaged in S City for a day, packed quite a few Bashu takeaway snacks, and stored them all in the storage ring.

Luckily, time remains still inside the ring, so the snacks don’t go bad, and even the heat stays as if they just came out of the pot. The spicy and hot flavors brought her great enjoyment, and she quickly finished off the box of dragon wontons.

Having dumped the food container into the trash, just after covering up her tracks and erasing evidence, Hinata Chinatsu returned. Huo Sining, eating alone, still had Bashu red oil on her lips, hurriedly lowered her head to find a tissue to wipe off guiltily.

Fortunately, Hinata Chinatsu didn’t notice what she was doing, and Huo Sining let out a small breath of relief. Feeling full, she couldn’t help but sigh internally at her unique exchange student experience.

Zao Tian’s requirements for exchange students weren’t as strict as those for regular international students. Huo Sining and her peers were directly placed into the second-year regular classes of various departments for supplementary learning, but they didn’t select many courses, only a few compulsory classes each week, with the rest being extracurricular experiences.

Such an arrangement was something Huo Sining was naturally eager for. She wished for more free time to independently arrange her plans. Exploring this small island nation in three months sounded very intriguing.

With Hinata Chinatsu’s help, Huo Sining quickly adapted to exchange student life, balancing learning while starting to plan her grand treasure-hunting trip across Dongyang’s forty-three prefectures.

Dongyang’s territory comprises the four major islands of Benzhou, Shikoku, Kyushu, Hokkaido, and 7,200 smaller islands. Thus, Huo Sining’s plan sounds simple, but implementation is quite challenging.

Huo Sining spent three days researching, listing plans, and mapping routes. Finally settling on a course of action, it coincidentally lined up with a four-day span without classes following her sessions that day. Free to dictate her schedule, Huo Sining made a decisive decision to start her first treasure-hunting journey. With a backpack, she headed to Ginza, preparing to find Nara Nigawa.

However, upon reaching Nara Grocery Store, Huo Sining found the store closed and Nara Nigawa not inside.

Huo Sining had no choice but to call Nara Nigawa. When the call connected, there was a chaotic noise on the other end. Huo Sining had to call out repeatedly before hearing Nara Nigawa’s voice, instructing her to walk another two hundred meters to the right on the street and then turn left, where he was waiting for her.
