The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Zhou Qiao was wiping her daughter’s face while the little girl twisted and giggled.

Seeing Daniu come back, Zhou Qiao pushed Little Zaozao towards him without hesitation, ”Look at your wonderful daughter, it’s so cold, yet she insists on going to the riverside. If you don’t let her, she runs away, slips, and gets herself all dirty, like a little rascal.”

Daniu laughed heartily and picked up Little Zaozao, ”She fell and didn’t cry, that’s truly my daughter.”

Zhou Qiao, ”...” Not only did she not cry, she was laughing.

”I don’t care anymore, you take her yourself.”

Zhou Qiao finished speaking and carried out the water to pour it away, and then returned to the house, leaving the father and daughter to play.

Soon, the door to the house was opened.

Zhou Qiao looked up and saw only Daniu, she asked curiously, ”Where is she?”

”Playing with Little Ya’er in her room.”

As he spoke, he turned around and bolted the door.

Zhou Qiao was startled by the sound, ”What are you doing in broad daylight?”

Daniu chuckled, his laughter sent goosebumps over Zhou Qiao.

Especially when she saw him reach inside his jacket, she couldn’t help but take two steps back.

Unexpectedly, a moment later, Daniu took out a stack of silver notes from his chest, ”For you.”

Zhou Qiao was stunned, she looked at his exceptionally bright smile, and slowly moved to his hand, then her eyes widened, ”...Wow, so much money? Where did it come from?”

”Isn’t it the end of the year? Yu is auditing the accounts. You know, when we opened the workshop, Yu promised me a share. Two years ago, I got paid once, it was three hundred taels at that time. Last year, she didn’t come back from Chenggu County, so it’s all calculated together this year; this is my share. Five thousand taels, more than enough for Little Zaozao’s dowry.”

”How, how much?” Zhou Qiao doubted she heard it wrong.

”Five thousand taels.”

Zhou Qiao took a deep breath, ”So much?!” She quickly counted, and it was indeed five thousand taels.

Clearly, it’s just a few thin pieces of paper, yet Zhou Qiao felt they were exceptionally heavy now, her hands shaking slightly under the burden.

Oh my, our family suddenly has five thousand taels of money, we are a big household, truly wealthy.

”I was thinking on the way back, might as well buy a shop in the prefecture with this money, what do you think?”

”A shop?” Zhou Qiao was surprised, ”You, you don’t plan to work at the workshop anymore and want to open a shop yourself?”

”Of course not, I’m very familiar with the workshop work, and there’s a share. I also receive wages every month, why wouldn’t I do it?”

Zhou Qiao sighed in relief, she felt it’s going well here. If Daniu were to leave now, wouldn’t it be like abandoning someone who helped them cross the river? Moreover, it’s just two years of dividends, even if they start their own shop, they might not earn as much.

It’s only Lu’s Workshop’s first two years, there surely will be more in the future.

”Since you’re not opening one, are you asking me to? I can’t do it, I don’t know anything, and besides, I have to take care of our daughter.”

Daniu laughed, ”No one in either my family or yours is suited to open a shop. I’m thinking once we buy the shop, we can rent it out. It’ll collect rental income annually when things are quiet, and later, when Zaozao grows up, it can be part of her dowry.”

Zhou Qiao thought it over, ”I think it’s doable, so when do we go to see the shop?”

”Tomorrow, let’s all go to the prefecture, find an intermediary to help us look, and buy some things along the way.”

”Alright.”
