The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

And Ruan Hai, as long as he could stabilize the Ruan brothers before the funeral, it would be fine.

Originally, his plan was quite solid, and he was eighty percent confident.

Who knew that when his cousin went to see Madam Ruan for the second time, he came back with unexpected news—Madam Ruan would come.

Ruan Hai laughed out of exasperation, he really couldn’t understand what Madam Ruan was thinking, knowing full well this place was a tiger’s den, yet she insisted on coming. Didn’t she and Old Lady Ruan sever their ties long ago? Wouldn’t the Lu family stop her?

No choice, Ruan Hai still gathered the villagers that afternoon, partly to show the Ruan brothers, and partly to prevent unexpected events.

Until the carriage entered the village, Ruan Hai felt a sense of relief when he saw there was only one carriage.

One carriage meant it couldn’t be the entire Lu family, at most it was just Madam Ruan and her husband.

However, when the curtains opened, it revealed Shu Yu’s face.

The last person Ruan Hai wanted to see—had arrived.

At that moment, he felt his vision go black and almost fainted.

From then on, he stayed vigilant, just hoping Shu Yu would quickly leave after venting her anger on the Ruan brothers.

Unfortunately, things took the worst turn, the county magistrate didn’t leave, and Ruan Chengqian, in an attempt to catch wild game for her, discovered the burial site.

At this point, Ruan Hai still considered it an accident.

After all, Shu Yu had only been here a day, and her maid and she were under their watchful eyes all day. They hadn’t gone up the mountain nor visited any other places, so how could they suddenly discover a place where a body was buried?

It could only be said it was too coincidental.

Shu Yu could only say... too coincidental, she didn’t even expect that exposing a murder and burial case would involve the Ruan brothers in any way.

Everything that needed explaining was explained, both Ruan Hai and his son lay despondently beneath the public court.

Lord Xie began pronouncing the verdict, ”Ruan Kewei, murder and concealment of a corpse, death penalty. Ruan Hai, as village chief, knowing the law yet breaking it, helping Ruan Kewei bury and conceal the body, sentenced to hard labor.”

Ruan Kewei was hollow-eyed, death penalty??

He raised his head to surge forward, ”Lord, Lord, I don’t want to die, I’m wronged.”

He had confessed to the crime, stamped his fingerprints on the charges, now retracting his confession was just a futile struggle at death’s door.

Lord Xie couldn’t be bothered with him and was about to order the officers to drag him away.

Yet at that moment, someone suddenly rushed in from outside, ”Lord, this woman has a matter and seeks your justice.”

Lord Xie frowned, ”Who’s below the court?”

”This woman is Ms. Lou, Ruan Kewei’s wife.”

”Come in.”

Ms. Lou hurriedly kneeled in the court, under the puzzled gaze of everyone present, she respectfully kowtowed.

”What do you have to say?” Lord Xie struck the gavel, his expression stern.

Ms. Lou took a deep breath, ”Lord, this woman desires to part ways with Ruan Kewei, the murderer.”

Lord Xie looked up, Ruan Kewei turned his head in disbelief to look at her, then immediately tried to pounce on her. Fortunately, the officers keenly restrained him.

”You wench, what did you say?”

”Quiet.” Lord Xie coldly glanced at Ruan Kewei. He knew about Ms. Lou and knew it was she who risked being beaten to death to learn about the murder from Ruan Kewei.

Only for the sake of Ms. Lou’s safety, fearing reprisals from other Ruan family members, did he not have her testify openly.

As for Ms. Lou wanting to part ways, Lord Xie was naturally aware.

”Ms. Lou, is the reason you want to part ways because Ruan Kewei is a murderer?”
