The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Another half an hour passed, and a carriage reappeared at the village entrance.

Ying Xi drove the carriage directly to the door of Ruan Hai’s home. Sharp-eyed villagers hurriedly exclaimed, ”It’s here, it’s here, county magistrate, your maid has returned.”

Shu Yu raised her eyebrows and went out to greet them, ”Quite fast indeed.”

Daniu got down from the carriage, accompanied by Ruan Dali, who said he came to help Daniu.

”Yu, I’ve already heard about the situation here from Ying Xi. I’ve brought the contract and seeds. It’s getting late. I think we should directly check the land and settle if it’s suitable.”

The villagers were naturally overjoyed to see him acting so quickly.

Shu Yu nodded, ”Alright, if you’re not tired, let’s go check out the land first.”

The group then energetically followed Ruan Libao, who responded first, to his two plots of land.

Everyone was full of energy at this point. After viewing Ruan Libao’s land, they proceeded to the next home. The group moving through the fields was quite a sight. After checking three homes, the villagers warned and dismissed by Ruan Hai were green with envy.

Originally, they had the opportunity to examine the land and finalize the contract to purchase seeds.

But Ruan Hai prevented them from capitalizing on this hard-earned opportunity to make money.

Those who originally bore no personal grudge against Ruan Hai were now completely dissatisfied with him.

When they arrived at the fourth home, Shu Yu seemed a bit tired. Daniu quickly asked, ”Why don’t you sit down and rest before moving on?”

Shu Yu nodded. Ying Xi placed a handkerchief on a nearby large stone for her to sit on. Though others were not tired, they didn’t say much and casually found a stone or path to rest on.

Just as they were catching their breath, someone suddenly shouted and ran towards them, ”County magistrate, village chief, officers are here.”

Accompanying Shu Yu, Ruan Hai, whose feet were sore from walking, heard this and his heart skipped a beat. He suddenly stood up.

Standing up too abruptly, his blood circulation faltered, and he stumbled forward, fortunately caught by his eldest son.

Ruan Hai turned pale, shivering as he asked the reporting villager, ”What are the officers coming to our village for?”

The villager wasn’t sure, only quietly said, ”I think they’re inquiring about the county magistrate’s whereabouts.”

Ruan Hai quickly turned to look at Shu Yu, who was puzzled, ”Why inquire about me out of the blue?”

As she spoke, over twenty constables came running over.

The leading Constable Jiang was familiar with Shu Yu and immediately saluted upon seeing her, ”Greetings, county magistrate.”

”Why have you come over? Is it me you’re looking for?”

”Yes, county magistrate. Your family’s old lady reported that you came to Ruan Family Village for a funeral but have yet to return, and she’s worried. She feared you might be... um, troubled by your two uncles, so she reported to the county office. Our lord is greatly concerned about your safety and sent us to... protect and escort you back.”

Shu Yu rubbed her forehead, ”A misunderstanding, a misunderstanding, my grandmother misunderstood. I’m fine here, it’s just that unexpected matters caused the delay.”

”I see.”

”Thank you for going to the effort of coming here, you can head back now. Once the matters here are settled, I’ll visit to express my gratitude upon returning to town.”

Ruan Hai, upon hearing it was all a misunderstanding, let out a heavy sigh of relief. Seeing Constable Jiang and his people preparing to leave, he almost collapsed from the release of tension.

No one expected that just as Constable Jiang turned away, Ruan Chengqian suddenly came running over, ”County magistrate, I discovered a corpse on the mountain.”
