The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu smiled and said, ”I’ve come today to make this matter clear to you all, so you won’t be waiting in vain. It’s getting late, I’ll be heading back now.”

As she spoke, the villagers who had heard she was coming and had previously intended to sign the contract rushed over.

Upon arrival, they heard the county magistrate didn’t plan to continue cooperation due to the absence of the former village chief.

The villagers became anxious immediately, ”County magistrate, please don’t leave! We can lower the purchase price a bit more.”

Shu Yu merely chuckled, but remained resolutely silent.

At this moment, an elder standing behind the third granduncle suddenly spoke, ”County magistrate, you may not know the villagers of our village well and might think everyone here is like Ruan Hai, so even if we choose a new village chief, you may not trust us. But you trust Ruan Dali, don’t you? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have made him the steward of your workshop.”

Shu Yu glanced at the elder, having already guessed what he wanted to say. It seemed Ruan Chengqian was right; these past few years, he had been preparing to bring Ruan Hai down, and whether among villagers or elders, some were already siding with him.

But she still nodded, appearing rather puzzled, ”As for Ruan Dali, I naturally trust him.”

The elder then smiled and said, ”You’ve met Ruan Dali’s family; what do you think of their character?”

Shu Yu pondered for a moment, ”Quite good, all very sincere.”

The third granduncle also grasped the elder’s meaning and promptly said, ”The county magistrate is right, Ruan Chengchun and his brother are both sincere people. When they established the oil pressing workshop back then, many villagers benefited. Over the past couple of years, as their own situation improved, they’ve consistently helped other villagers in need.”

A shrewd villager quickly understood and immediately exclaimed, ”That’s right, I’ve long wanted to say, for the village’s new chief, Ruan Chengqian is the most suitable candidate.”

”I agree; when the elders mentioned assembling at the ancestral hall, the first person I thought of was Ruan Chengqian.”

”Yes, I was going to propose him. A few months ago, when the old man from our family fell, he was the one who helped carry him back. If it were Ruan Hai, he would have pretended not to see.”

”And Ruan Chengqian was the first to discover the body; he helped expose the village’s vermin, a huge contribution.”

”Day to day, he’s fair and just; last time he even helped resolve the dispute between Uncle Si and Auntie Liu from the village entrance.”

”Ah, are you all choosing him? I plan to vote for him too.”

Shu Yu, ”...” Very well, certainly some villagers might deliberately speak favorably of Ruan Chengqian because of me, but this is indeed the result of his efforts over the past two years.

The third granduncle smiled at Shu Yu, ”County magistrate, look, everyone agrees to elect Chengqian as the new village chief. Since you believe in his character, why not let him serve as the village chief, as the mediator?”

Shu Yu rubbed her forehead, ”Choosing a village chief, are you this hasty?”

”Of course not; he was already one of the candidates for the new village chief.”

Yet Shu Yu shook her head, ”Electing a village chief is for your villagers, and you must consider the village’s interests and future development. You can’t decide just because of me. I’m the county magistrate, and though I have a good relationship with Ruan Dali’s family, I can’t interfere. Otherwise, if in the future you regret, feel it’s inappropriate, I end up being the villain.”

The third granduncle was taken aback, surprised she said this, could it be that she still disagreed?
