The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Ruan Hai has calmed down, he got off his eldest son’s back and said to the two constables, ”I am the village chief of Ruan Family Village. Since a corpse was found in our village, as the village chief, it is my duty to go up and take a look.”

The two constables then looked at Shu Yu, and the latter nodded, ”I’ll go up with the Village Chief Ruan, perhaps the village chief knows something.”

Only then did the constables step aside to let them through.

Ruan Hai and Shu Yu headed up the mountain, while the other villagers were mumbling at the foot of the mountain, all speculating about who the buried corpse might be.

Upon reaching the burial site, Ruan Hai closed his eyes briefly, indeed Cao Jiang had been discovered.

Constable Jiang had already directed people to dig a pit in this area and was questioning the first witness, Ruan Chengqian, ”Do you recognize this person?”

”I recognize him, he’s Cao Jiang from the neighboring village. Earlier, we heard people from his village say that Cao Jiang had been missing for over half a month. They suspected he had fled because of gambling debts, but no one thought he would be murdered.”

Constable Jiang nodded and instructed the two constables beside him, ”Go and bring the Cao Family here to identify the body.”

Before the two constables could respond, Ruan Hai quickly said, ”Constable Jiang, let me go, I know Cao Jiang’s parents.”

Constable Jiang raised his hand, ”No need, the body was found in your Ruan Family Village, it’s best if villagers from your village don’t get involved.”

Ruan Hai was taken aback and his face darkened, ”Constable Jiang, what do you mean by this? Are you suspecting that someone from our village killed Cao Jiang?”

”Until the matter is cleared up, everyone is a suspect.”

With that, he sent the two constables down the mountain to find people.

The two constables had just left when Ruan Hai promptly followed them. This time, his legs were surprisingly nimble.

Shu Yu and Constable Jiang exchanged a glance but didn’t stop him.

When the two constables reached the foot of the mountain, Ruan Hai who was following behind deliberately raised his voice angrily, ”Bailiff, what do you mean by this? The villagers of Ruan Family Village are honest and straightforward farmers, who dares to commit murder and arson? I am the village chief of Ruan Family Village, I can beat my chest and guarantee that Cao Jiang was definitely not killed by villagers from our village. What do you mean by treating our entire village as suspects?”

As soon as these words were spoken, the villagers who were previously just observers were instantly stunned.

What does this mean? The village chief is saying that they all have become murder suspects?

It wasn’t a concern when it didn’t involve them directly, but once it did, everyone became disgruntled.

”Village chief, who was the victim, is the murderer among us?”

Ruan Hai angrily snorted, ”The deceased is Cao Jiang. Constable Jiang said that the person was killed in our Ruan Family Village, and until the matter is clarified, everyone in our village is a suspect. I just said I wanted to help find the Cao family’s parents, but Constable Jiang wouldn’t let me go. Seems like I’ve also become a suspect, right?”

Just when some elders from the Ruan family arrived at the foot of the mountain, they immediately approached the constables to reason with them, ”Bailiff, how can you suspect the villagers from our village? Especially Village Chief Ruan, he has been devoted to the village, he wants to help, but you treat him as a suspect, this will chill the hearts of us, the common people.”

”Yes, yes, you should operate based on evidence, how can you suspect us without reason? This harms the reputation of our village.”

When Shu Yu walked over, she saw Ruan Hai instigating the villagers to try to go up the mountain to reason.

She took two steps forward, ”Everyone quiet!”
