The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Indeed very soon, after Cao Jiang’s corpse was brought back to the Office, the forensic doctor examined his cause of death overnight.

By the next morning, the results were out, and Cao Jiang was indeed smashed to death by that hoe, with the time of death being half a month ago.

Subsequently, Constable Jiang began visiting Ruan Family Village and the village where the Cao Family resided, asking about the people Cao Jiang might have offended during this period, and his personal relationships.

Everyone related to Cao Jiang was questioned one by one. They were asked where they were on the evening of that day half a month ago, what they were doing, and if anyone could verify their whereabouts.

Most of them had alibis, and those conflicting with the timeline were excluded. There were a few without alibis, who had to stay home and be ready for questioning at any time.

Unfortunately, among those who had conflicts with Cao Jiang, there was Ruan Kewei and his gang of rowdy friends.

According to those rowdy friends, Cao Jiang had taken a liking to a brothel girl recently, and driven by infatuation, wanted to buy her freedom and marry her. But he had no money, and the Cao Family was extremely poor. While Cao Jiang was trying to figure out how to gather the money, the brothel girl who had said to wait for him for some time was getting very close to Ruan Kewei.

Unlike Cao Jiang, though the Ruan family was not wealthy, they still had some means, and Ruan Kewei could afford an occasional visit to the brothel.

This understandably led to dissatisfaction from Cao Jiang towards Ruan Kewei. It was said that they even fought once.

Since Cao Jiang was alone, while Ruan Kewei was with his gang of rowdy friends, Cao Jiang was beaten with no ability to retaliate, and fled after letting out some harsh words. Ruan Kewei wanted to chase him but was dragged away by his friends for drinks.

This happened more than twenty days ago. After that, Cao Jiang stopped mentioning buying the girl’s freedom, but the grudge between him and Ruan Kewei was firmly established.

Now, with mutual animosity and the conflict erupting shortly before Cao Jiang’s murder, Ruan Kewei naturally became a prime subject for interrogation.

However, when the constables went to Ruan Hai’s home, they couldn’t find him.

Ruan Hai said he went out, as it was common for him to do so, the Ruan family did not know where he was.

Constable Jiang proceeded with routine questioning, asking if Ruan Kewei was home that day. Ruan Hai only said he wasn’t home during the day and guessed he must be out with friends. Which friends specifically, Ruan Hai did not know.

At this point, Ruan Hai understood the most crucial thing was to manufacture an alibi for Ruan Kewei, and to inform him.

However, he just could not find, could, not, find, Ruan, Kewei!!

Just as Shu Yu had predicted, letting Ruan Kewei escape was indeed his worst move.

In such circumstances at the time, he should have kept Ruan Kewei at home, at least to align their testimonies. Now, he couldn’t even find him, so how could they align their testimonies?

Ruan Hai could only ask the family to look for him, at this critical juncture, some of the Ruan family who were thinking a bit more were already slightly suspicious. Especially Ruan Hai’s wife, when the father and son returned in the middle of the night that day, they had even asked her to wash the clothes.

The Ruan family searched everywhere Ruan Kewei might have gone but didn’t find him.

Ruan Hai was furious inside, but due to being under Shu Yu’s watch, he couldn’t personally go back home to meet with Ruan Kewei, leading to his youngest son not grasping his intention.

Meanwhile, the constables at the Office were searching for him as well.

And just as Ruan Hai was praying for his side to find him first, Constable He returned to the Office with a dejected-looking Ruan Kewei.
