The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Daniu immediately nodded, ”Yes, last year when you weren’t here, we did give out some New Year goods, but they were all rather standard, nothing extraordinary. Yet, the staff were very happy. This year our business is good, so let’s make everyone happy.”

”Leave some of the capital as liquid assets on the account.” Shu Yu thought aloud, ”Hmm, after excluding these, the rest is our shares.”

Shu Yu scribbled on the paper, and after finishing, pushed it towards Daniu, ”This is your share for the past two years, rounding it up, five thousand.”

Daniu held his breath, staring at the numbers on the paper, not reacting for a long time.

After a while, he finally said, ”Is this all for my share?”

”Of course.”

Daniu stared at it for a while longer and then grinned.

Of course, he had seen large sums of money before, but those belonged to the workshop, merely passing through his hands. This was his own money, which he could control, and the concept was entirely different.

If it were four years ago, no, even three years ago, Daniu never dared to dream he’d own five thousand taels of silver in his lifetime.

Back in Shangshi Village, his wildest dream was to earn a hundred taels in his lifetime, which would already be incredibly remarkable.

Now, he had so many hundreds of taels...

Shu Yu counted out the silver notes and handed them to him, ”Take it, now that you’re financially stable, you can buy a house or a shop, whatever you wish.”

Daniu chuckled, ”I haven’t decided what to do with the money yet; I’ll discuss it with your sister-in-law when I get back, maybe save it for Zaozao as a dowry in the future.”

”Zaozao is not even two years old yet.” Shu Yu twitched at the corner of his mouth.

”Time goes by quickly, children grow like the wind, it’s just the right time to prepare.”

Shu Yu rubbed his forehead, didn’t say much more, placed his share in another box, and then tidied up, ”Alright, the money is sorted, later let the stewards know, when the 22nd of the lunar month comes, we’ll throw a banquet and have a New Year’s dinner, giving everyone bonuses.”

After a pause, she added, ”We haven’t really done anything in the past two years, this time we can do it bigger, and bring families.”

”Alright then.”

Daniu tucked away his silver notes and went out, found a few stewards and instructed them.

”At that time, you count the numbers and see how many people are coming, so you can prepare in advance.”

The stewards nodded repeatedly, although the boss said families could be brought along, and didn’t even mention the number of people. But the stewards understood it couldn’t be too random; in these times, some families might have five or six, even ten members. If they hear there’s a free banquet, they might bring everyone, what then?

The Lu family’s workshop has expanded several times now, and the number of staff is growing. Not to mention, there are now five stewards in the workshop itself. Among so many people, it’s hard to ensure there won’t be staff who take advantage excessively without restraint.

So, the stewards discussed it and decided that families could be brought, but limited to one person, with children under six also allowed to attend.

After discussing and seeking Daniu’s opinion, Daniu nodded, ”Let’s do it like this, you make sure to count the numbers.”

The stewards agreed and immediately went to the workshop to inform everyone, causing all the staff to shout excitedly.

Listening to the cheers inside, Daniu smiled. Since it was just the right time, he simply went back to the Manor to find his wife and hide the silver notes.
