The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

According to what Ruan Chengqian said, Cao Jiang, like Ruan Kewei, is also an unruly person.

However, unlike Ruan Kewei, he doesn’t have a good family background. His family saw him as beyond saving, lazy to care, even once considered cutting ties with him.

But Cao Jiang didn’t care; he occasionally went out drinking and gambling, and when he ran out of money, he’d run home to steal from his parents. When there was nothing left to steal, he’d cause trouble for others.

He’s often away for three to five days, and the Cao family actually hopes he doesn’t come back, because whenever he comes home, chaos ensues.

Ruan Chengqian said, ”Cao Jiang is from the neighboring village. A few days ago, I went to the neighboring village to visit a friend, and I heard him lamenting that Cao Jiang has been missing for half a month, probably escaped due to gambling debts. It’s better that he ran, saves the village from misery, his parents can breathe a sigh of relief. In the past half month, only he has been missing for so long.”

Shu Yu nodded thoughtfully and then looked up at Ms. Lou. ”Did Ruan Kewei say he buried the body himself, or did someone help him?”

Ms. Lou was unsure, ”I don’t know.”

”I heard that Ruan Kewei is deeply loved by Ruan Hai. After the event, he still had nightmares at midnight, clearly very scared inside. A person like that wouldn’t manage such a thing alone without being noticed on the first attempt.”

Ruan Chengqian suddenly exclaimed, ”County magistrate suspects that Ruan Hai also knew about this matter and helped him bury the body?”

”I’m just speculating. After all, Ruan Kewei isn’t clever enough to have such deep scheming. If he killed someone, he would likely first turn to someone to help clean up. And aside from Ruan Hai, there’s no one else. Ms. Lou, think carefully, aside from Ruan Kewei being unusual that day, was there anything suspicious about Ruan Hai? Or did Ruan Hai go out with him after Ruan Kewei returned?”

Ms. Lou widened her eyes; she hadn’t thought in that direction before.

Shu Yu guided her to recall the details from half a month ago, Ms. Lou furrowed her brow, somewhat uncertainly said, ”That day when Ruan Kewei returned... yes, he came back twice that day. The first time was just after nightfall, I just finished tidying the dishes and was pouring water in the yard when I saw him hastily running in. Shortly after, I heard a loud commotion in the house, then my father-in-law went out with him. The second return was at dawn, after I went to bed, he just hid under the covers as soon as he got inside.”

So, so, could it be that they buried the body together?

”Is there anything else unusual?”

Ms. Lou thought for quite a while before speaking again, ”Yes, normally I do the laundry at home, but the next day when I prepared to go to the river to wash clothes, my mother-in-law had already washed them all.”

”Do you know where they buried the corpse?”

Ms. Lou truly had no idea, Ruan Kewei only revealed that single sentence, no matter how wise she might be, she couldn’t extract more detailed information.

But Shu Yu felt even if someone as cautious as Ruan Hai helped with the matter, traces would still remain.

She gently tapped her fingers on the tabletop, suddenly thought of something, ”You mentioned earlier that Ruan Kewei said a sentence that he’d let you taste what it’s like to be hit in the head by a hoe, meaning if he did kill, the murder weapon would be a hoe. Is any hoe missing from your house? Or... is there anything strange about it?”

Ms. Lou suddenly raised her head, excitedly said, ”Yes, there is something strange.”
