The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

When the old lady and others turned their heads, they saw the young couple’s hands clasped together.

They exchanged a glance and continued chatting with the old gentleman.

The old gentleman, having already explained everything clearly, was thinking, ”Why are they still here?”

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng’s wedding date was set for the twentieth of May next year.

Everything else is manageable and can be prepared slowly, but the guest list for the banquet is something Shu Yu needs to think about.

Just like the old lady said, whether people come or not is up to them, but such a joyful event must be delivered.

Unfortunately, after pondering for a long time, she still didn’t know how to begin.

When Meng Yunzheng came in, he saw her scribbling messily on a piece of paper, with a few lines faintly visible at the top, but unclear.

He placed the peeled pomelo on the table, casually picked a segment and fed it to her, asking, ”What are you doing?”

Shu Yu chewed twice and muttered, ”Writing a letter.”

She simply put down the pen, ”My grandmother said it’s always good to send a letter to friends we know, but I’m at a loss where to start.”

Meng Yunzheng contemplated for a moment, ”The people you are familiar with are from a few places: one is from Linzhang Prefecture, like Fang Xiyue and Wang Changdong, who have good relations, but they definitely can’t come. Another is Changjin Prefecture, which is my hometown, and can be discussed slowly. Then there’s Lord Qi, Uncle Yao, and Lord Jing from the capital. Based on my understanding of them, it’s likely they’ll send gifts.”

Shu Yu nodded repeatedly, ”Yes.”

Meng Yunzheng somewhat understood her dilemma. He sat beside her, took the pen from her hand, and said, ”You don’t need to think about covering everything. Some things can’t be perfectly tailored to everyone’s expectations. Isn’t there an example from Linzhang Prefecture? Back when Fang Xiyue and Ma Lu got married, she sent you a letter and wedding candies, and you returned the favor. She was sharing good news and wanted to discuss the happy event with you. You can certainly do the same.”

”As for the capital, there’s no need to think too much. We can visit them personally after attending the Imperial Examination there to show our respects, which should be timely. There’s no need to send a letter.”

”In Changjin Prefecture, the people you are familiar with are the same ones I know, so just leave this matter to my father.”

He cleared things up for Shu Yu one by one, preventing her from remaining confused.

”Apart from these, there are the people from Dongan Province. They’re close by, so it’s not too late to notify them as the wedding date approaches. Regarding your teacher’s situation... it may be hard to find.”

Shu Yu nodded, ”As for my teacher, I can only ask Senior Sister Qiu if there is any news. If not, there’s nothing we can do. However, there’s still another person in the capital whom I very much want to invite.”

”Who?” Meng Yunzheng couldn’t recall at the moment.

”It’s Madam Hou, who became Lord Wan’s concubine, and Sixth Young Lady. You know how well I got along with them during the exile journey. Last time, we narrowly missed each other at the dock. Although in our correspondence, she says everything is good, she occasionally remembers Dongan Province, which is after all her hometown. I was thinking of writing to ask her thoughts, and if she can come, it would be good to prepare early.”

After all, being a concubine, even though there isn’t a mistress in the household, there are still many things beyond one’s control.

Meng Yunzheng nodded, ”Then you should write that letter first.”

This time, Shu Yu had no trouble writing and quickly finished the letter, feeling relieved.
