The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1227: Chapter 1227: The Xiao Family Comes Knocking

Hu Li quickly changed the topic, Nanny Gu couldn’t pursue further, so she just smiled dryly and chatted with him while walking towards the county office.

However, her mood at this moment sank to the bottom, and her expression became anxious.

She deliberately went to the Lu family today because the half-month period agreed between Monarch Lu Xiang and the young lady happened to be due today, and the young lady had been restless since she got up in the morning.

So, Nanny Gu suggested going to the Lu family to see if someone really came to propose.

Who would have thought that as soon as they reached Fenghuai Street, they saw Hu Li?

Nanny Gu found it strange, and then she saw Hu Li and Monarch Lu Xiang talking over there, and judging by their demeanor, they were clearly discussing private matters.

Nanny Gu’s heart skipped a beat, could it be that Shuixin guessed correctly? Monarch Lu Xiang planned to complain to their lord?

Previously, they had been delaying, but now that the half-month period had arrived and couldn’t be postponed any longer, they simply sought out Xiang Weinan?

The more Nanny Gu thought about it, the more uneasy she felt, and upon returning to the county office, she immediately told what she saw to the Xiao Family.

Madam Xiao’s face changed, and she slapped the table fiercely, “If they want to complain, let them! I shall see if my husband would really come to settle accounts with me over that woman! After all, I am the legitimate wife of the princely heir; do you think I would be afraid of her?”

Though she said so, what Madam Xiao cared about was Xiang Weinan. If he really came to question her, she would probably feel disheartened.

Thinking of this, Madam Xiao’s expression turned a bit gloomy.

Originally, Nanny Gu was considering whether to go find Monarch Lu Xiang, but seeing Madam Xiao like this, she could only comfort her, “Miss, maybe we guessed wrong, that Monarch Lu Xiang might not be complaining.”

“Then we shall wait and see if my husband will come over.”

However, by the afternoon, not only did Xiang Weinan not come, he was said to have gone out of town for some official business.

Madam Xiao inexplicably sighed in relief, followed by a burst of anger; a day had passed since Shu Yu’s promised fortnight, and there was not even a shadow of a marriage proposal.

Even if she wasn’t complaining, deceiving was indeed a fact.

After waiting for another day and confirming no one from the Lu family came to propose, she said to Nanny Gu early on the third day, “Let’s go, we should pay a visit to this Monarch Lu Xiang.”

“Yes.”

Nanny Gu agreed, changed Madam Xiao’s clothes, and took a naive maid with them, and the three left the county office.

They got into the carriage and headed straight for Fenghuai Street.

Halfway there, the naive maid suddenly said, “Miss, there are two horses following us.”

Madam Xiao and Nanny Gu looked back and indeed saw two people on horseback following them slowly.

Nanny Gu frowned, “The streets of this county town are indeed too narrow.” She instructed the coachman in front, “Let’s move to the side and let them pass first. Those two tall horses at the back are quite intimidating.”

Moreover, being so close, what if the horses suddenly went wild?

The coachman quickly tugged the reins and moved the carriage closer to the roadside, and the two horses indeed passed by them one after the other.

The person on the horse behind, before leaving, even cupped his hand in thanks to the coachman, “Thank you.”

The coachman nodded, and the two horses quickly disappeared from their view.

Nanny Gu lifted the curtain and glanced, “They seem to have turned into Fenghuai Street as well.”

Madam Xiao absentmindedly said, “The area around Fenghuai Street is full of wealthy people; it’s not surprising.”
