The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1208: Chapter 1208: The Xiao Family’s Invitation

Shu Yu temporarily put her mind at ease about the matter of Little Song Le.

After talking to Fourth Aunt about Little Song Le’s situation, Fourth Aunt would occasionally bring Quanquan and Xiaozhen to play.

Coincidentally, Quanquan had new peers to play with and often clamored to come to grandma’s house.

Shu Yu began to focus on the matters of the workshop. After she and Lu Erbai finalized the layout and basic details of the workshop, Lu Erbai started hiring workers, preparing to begin construction.

Since the workshop was outside the city and a bit far, the workers found it inconvenient to travel back and forth; if they hurried home every day, all their time would be wasted on the road.

Therefore, for this project, the workers lived nearby.

However, though the Manor was quite large, it didn’t have enough rooms, unlike when repairing the big house for Shu Yu when there were several large dormitories.

This place only had two large dormitories, but there were more workers than before.

Finally, Daniu consulted with the tenants; any family with extra rooms would rent them out temporarily.

The tenants were overjoyed to have extra income. Even if their home originally did not have spare rooms, they worked hard to clear out one to rent out.

Not to mention other families, even the Cui Family moved people in.

However, a death had occurred in the Cui Family, so Shu Yu specifically asked the workers, and they didn’t mind. When traveling, some had even slept near burial mounds—what was there to fear? Who hadn’t lost someone in their family?

In fact, because the Cui Family had no owners living there, they felt even freer, and quite a few lived in the Cui Family.

Shu Yu set aside this portion of the rent for Little Ya’er for the future.

Soon, Shu Yu’s workshop began bustling with activity, and she headed to the Manor every few days.

The rest of the Lu family were also busy: Lu Erbai and Shu Yu were occupied with building houses, Madam Ruan and Shuyou were busy preparing the wedding, and the old lady stayed at home watching the children, with no one free.

After half a month of busyness, Shu Yu suddenly received an invitation card.

An… invitation from the Xiao Family.

When Shu Yu saw it, she was momentarily dazed.

Lately, she had been so busy that she almost forgot about Wei Nan’s wife, the wife of the prince with whom she had only met once.

Shu Yu was troubled, wondering whether she should go or not.

If she went, she really was busy recently, and this wasn’t just an excuse. But she couldn’t guarantee that Xiao Family wouldn’t think otherwise, especially since she’d already refused an invitation from her once.

Moreover, sooner or later, she would have to deal with the Xiao Family. Jiangyuan County was only this big; even if not becoming close, as long as there was no grievance between them, she had to keep things cordial.

While Shu Yu was hesitating, Ding Yuehua arrived.

Seeing the invitation in Shu Yu’s hand, she smiled and said, “I bet you also got one.”

“Also?”

Since returning, Shu Yu and Ding Yuehua had only met once.

She had delivered the gifts from the capital to her and came back, without having had a good look at her new house.

Ding Yuehua knew she was busy and didn’t keep her to talk long.

Upon receiving the invitation, Ding Yuehua first thought of Shu Yu.

And sure enough, she also had one in her hand.

Shu Yu sighed, “I’ve been so busy recently that I haven’t had a moment’s rest; where do I find the time to attend a banquet?”

“So you’re not going?”

Shu Yu looked at her helplessly, “I heard the Madam of County Magistrate has been in Jiangyuan County for a month and a half; this is her first time hosting a party, right?”

Ding Yuehua nodded.

Shu Yu massaged her aching head, “Can I afford not to go?”

Ding Yuehua thought if it were her, she couldn’t refuse to give such face.
