The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1226: Chapter 1226: Shu Yu Shuts Herself Off

Shu Yu felt a bad premonition flash through her mind and squinted her eyes as she asked again, “What do they do?”

Hu Li sighed, “The other side runs a brothel in the prefecture. Lord suspects that they bought such a place to train those girls and male prostitutes who have yet to have their names registered.”

There was one more thing he didn’t mention: the location and layout of that black market were excellent. In the future, if there were individuals of significant status who couldn’t openly go to the brothel, they might also be taken to that place for indulgence.

Shu Yu suddenly felt a lump in her throat, neither going up nor down.

Even though Hu Li hadn’t mentioned the latter reason, how could she not guess?

Having such a close neighbor engaged in the business of flesh and pleasure, Shu Yu felt completely unsettled.

The problem was that these people were not kind individuals, their methods were sinister. The black market dealt in goods, priced so high that ordinary people couldn’t afford them.

But the brothel was different.

Once the workshop was built, they would definitely need to hire many workers, among whom there might be fair-skinned girls and boys. Some families might even have children coming over to play.

If the other side saw someone good-looking, it wasn’t implausible to think they might deceive innocent children by painting a rosy picture, even if they didn’t outright abduct them. At that time, even as a Village Chief, she wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.

Shu Yu furrowed her brows tightly.

Seeing this, Hu Li quickly comforted her, “No need to worry, Miss. The deal isn’t finalized yet. It’s possible that the black market people might not be satisfied with the price and might break off the negotiations.”

Shu Yu, “…” You just said that the black market had been dragging on for too long and was highly likely to reach an agreement.

Hu Li also realized what he had just said, and lightly coughed, “In any case, there is still some time. Why not think of some more strategies?”

He sighed, “Speaking of which, it’s all because of the person who brought out the glass mirror. How could they have chosen the black market in Jiangyuan County, attracting all kinds of people here, and now the black market has to move away.”

Shu Yu, “…” Don’t talk to her, she’s shutting down.

Hu Li noticed that the more he spoke, the worse her face seemed to get, and immediately touched his nose, “Well, Monarch Lu Xiang, I have some business to attend to, so I should go. Rest assured, Lord and I will come up with a plan. After all, this place is within Jiangyuan County, under Lord’s jurisdiction. Lord doesn’t like having such a place causing trouble.”

Upon hearing this, Shu Yu finally felt a bit relieved.

She nodded, her expression softening slightly, “Thank you.”

“No trouble at all, no trouble at all. You must be busy, Miss. I’ll take my leave?”

“Alright.”

Hu Li let out a breath, bowed slightly, and then turned to leave.

Shu Yu rubbed her temples, feeling a bit of a headache as she returned home.

However, as Hu Li hadn’t gone far from the Lu family door, he suddenly heard a familiar voice behind him.

“Hu Li, Hu boy.”

Hu Li stopped and turned around, only to see Nanny Gu rushing up, panting heavily.

Hu Li quickly stepped forward, “Nanny Gu, what brings you here?”

Nanny Gu smiled, “I was just passing by and saw you. By the way, I saw you talking with Monarch Lu Xiang just now. You two seemed to be chatting for quite a while. What were you discussing?”

“Nothing much.” When it came to matters of the black market, Hu Li naturally wouldn’t tell her. He was well aware of the relationship between Lord and Madam, and Madam knew nothing about official matters.
