The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1220: Chapter 1220: Damn It, I’ve Been Set Up

Lu Sanzhu quickly took out two copper coins, looking a bit pained, and said to the two old women, “Please, madams, I am Third Uncle of Monarch Lu Xiang, could you help me pass on a message saying I have something very important to discuss with her?”

“Third Uncle of Monarch Lu Xiang? Who are you trying to fool?” Besides, just two copper coins, that’s too stingy.

Lu Sanzhu gritted his teeth, just about to take out two more copper coins, when he suddenly saw Ding Yuehua standing not far away, he hurriedly waved at her, “Third Mrs. Fan.”

Ding Yuehua happened to be looking this way, she froze for a moment upon seeing Lu Sanzhu, and quickly walked over, “Third Uncle Lu?”

“It’s me, is Yu inside? Could you call her for me?”

Ding Yuehua looked at him with suspicion, feeling something was odd, but still nodded and agreed.

Before long, Shu Yu came out, and was not surprised to see Lu Sanzhu, as he works here.

What surprised her was that Lu Sanzhu’s hair was still wet.

“Why are you… did you go underwater?”

Lu Sanzhu pulled her aside, quickly found a spot with no one around, and whispered, “Just now, I was underwater behind the pavilion, and I heard you talking with Madam of County Magistrate.”

Shu Yu, “…”

She frowned, sizing him up for a while, “What were you doing there? Don’t you know the whole area was booked by Madam of County Magistrate for a banquet today? If you get caught, you’d be finished.”

Lu Sanzhu scratched his head, “I was on leave the day before yesterday, and wasn’t Dabao not feeling well yesterday? So I didn’t come to work, and only confirmed he was fine today before coming over. And arriving late, I immediately saw a guest pacing anxiously, saying he lost a strand of prayer beads at the pavilion yesterday, but now there are people there he didn’t want to disturb, so he asked if any of us staff could swim there and retrieve them.”

But those staff aren’t good swimmers, so the guest said he’d reward us with five taels of silver if we found the prayer beads.

Lu Sanzhu was tempted; after all, he’s a man buried in debt after buying a house, so he went underwater without a second thought.

“I swam to the pavilion and heard your voice, then poked my head out, and just saw Madam of County Magistrate.”

Lu Sanzhu happened to have seen Xiao Family, so he quietly changed direction and swam to the corner behind her.

Shu Yu frowned, “Didn’t you know today’s banquet host was Madam of County Magistrate? Didn’t any other staff mention it before you went underwater?”

Lu Sanzhu froze, and almost immediately realized, “Great, damn it, I was set up.”

Shu Yu, “…”

Lu Sanzhu cleared his throat, then said, “Thinking back now, those two staff who were present are quite close to that fellow Cao Changlin.”

“Who’s that?”

“Someone who doesn’t get along with me, awhile back, the steward of the forest fell ill, seemed to be in bad shape, probably won’t be coming back to work. Ji, the boss, intends to choose between me and Cao Changlin to become the steward, but I’m smart and have a strong chance, so Cao Changlin doesn’t view me kindly. But they all know my niece is the Village Chief, he wouldn’t dare openly fight me, turns out he was waiting for this.”

Someone held a banquet here in the peach forest; generally speaking, Lu Sanzhu wouldn’t be afraid, as he’s a good swimmer and wouldn’t be discovered.

And even if discovered, it wouldn’t matter, since Shu Yu is the Village Chief, most people would give her face and listen to his explanation, probably wouldn’t hold it against him.

But today the banquet host is Madam of County Magistrate, who would dare disturb?
