The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1225: Chapter 1225: The News Brought by Hu Li

The old lady really knows her son well. Just as she walked over, she heard Third Lu’s comments and immediately said bluntly, ”What kind of nonsense is this? Don’t you just want to go back to Shangshi Village and show off a bit? Probably not just Shangshi Village, you’ll go to your father-in-law’s home too, won’t you? Truly shameless.”

Third Lu pulled a long face; truly a mother indeed.

Before she finished her words, ”If you want to go to your father-in-law’s home, just go. Didn’t you get promoted to steward and had a wage increase? Buy them some things to bring over there. You always go empty-handed; I’m embarrassed for you.”

Madam Liang walked over and said, ”No need, Mother, it’s all fine with my parents.”

”What’s ’all fine’? Last time, for your house-moving party, how many things did your father-in-law’s siblings bring over? Don’t you need to return the favor? Don’t you understand the principle of reciprocity? If you don’t bring anything, you won’t be borrowing the mule carriage.”

Madam Liang and Third Lu exchanged a glance and sighed. It seems that showing off comes with a cost.

The two could only nod, but as they led the mule carriage out, they became enthusiastic again.

Third Lu got promoted to steward, and after all, the old lady was happy. Once they left, she turned to Shu Yu and said, ”Let’s have something nice for dinner tonight in celebration of Sanzhu. We won’t invite them; we’ll just eat ourselves.”

Shu Yu chuckled and gave the old lady a thumbs-up. What a way to celebrate, not needing the guest of honor present.

Shu Yu indeed fulfilled the old lady’s request.

Third Lu’s promotion was certainly a happy event for the Lu family. But for Madam Li, it wasn’t necessarily so good. According to Madam Liang, Madam Li was so upset she almost rolled her eyes, yet still had to force a smile to congratulate them.

Shu Yu couldn’t be bothered about their rivalry. The date of Shuyou’s wedding was getting closer, and she had suddenly become anxious, resulting in insomnia at night.

Seeing this, Shu Yu simply took her out of the prefecture to visit the manor and workshop, letting her relax a bit. Everything that needed preparation was ready; she just needed to adjust her state now.

For this, Shu Yu even asked Zhao Xi for some Calming Incense Sachets.

After relaxing for two days at the manor, the two sisters returned.

Upon arrival at the gate, a familiar figure approached from a distance, ”Monarch Lu Xiang.”

Shu Yu got out of the carriage, surprised to see Hu Li, ”Why are you here?”

Shuyou saw they had something to discuss and nodded to Hu Li before going inside.

Hu Li approached Shu Yu, waved, and smiled, ”I came to tell you something.”

”Come inside first, let’s talk inside.”

Hu Li shook his head, ”No need, I have other things later. I’ll just say a couple of words and then go.”

”Alright then.”

Hu Li leaned closer to Shu Yu, lowered his voice, and said, ”Monarch Lu Xiang, didn’t you ask the Lord to pay attention to buyers in the black market last time? Recently, there’s news that someone from the prefecture is offering twenty-five thousand silver taels to buy the black market and the hill.”

Shu Yu frowned, ”I remember the asking price for the black market was thirty thousand taels, right? They knocked off five thousand at once?”

Hu Li nodded, ”Yes, but this hill has had no offers for a while; it’s been dragging on. The Lord said with a five-thousand reduction, it’s likely to be sold.”

”The buyer is from the prefecture. Do we know what he’s buying the hill and that manor for?”

Hu Li’s expression turned a bit odd, even with a hint of sympathy in Shu Yu’s facial expression.
