The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1224: Chapter 1224: Are You Really This Filial?

Upon thinking further, Shu Yu recalled the event from over ten days ago and suddenly squinted his eyes as he asked, “That Cao-something-Lin, has it been resolved?”

Cao-something-Lin? That’s Cao Changlin, why can’t Yu ever remember his name?

Third Lu nodded eagerly, “Isn’t it so? I always said that guy wasn’t up to any good. Now that he’s been fired by the boss, I have no rivals, and the boss straightforwardly promoted me to steward. The boss said that I’ve performed outstandingly for over a year, and the guests often praise me. I’m indeed qualified for this steward position.”

Shu Yu raised an eyebrow, “So it was that day when he made you go into the water, that it was indeed Cao-something-Lin’s scheme?”

Once again with the Cao-something-Lin, Third Lu couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

However, when talking about this matter, he was still indignant, “Indeed, that day he wanted to harm me, knowing the Madam of County Magistrate was hosting a banquet. He deliberately bribed a lady inside and got two staff members to act helpless in front of me, unable to find the prayer beads, and they said whoever found the beads would get five taels of silver. At that moment, I got carried away and really swam over to look.”

“Originally, when I swam to the pavilion, the lady bribed by Cao Changlin would walk to the pavilion, scream upon seeing me, and attract everyone’s attention. The young ladies and madams present would think I had bad intentions, and I wouldn’t be able to explain myself.”

“Oh, and he knew you were there too. I’m your Third Uncle, and you would definitely speak up for me. Whether others believed me or not is another matter, but whether it’s me or you, we’d both be gossiped about behind our backs. His mind was too malicious.”

But now it’s fine, he used the same scheme against him, and Cao Changlin, although he became aware that something was wrong, didn’t realize it was a series of plots. In the end, he got himself ousted.

The boss promoted him to steward, and his current wages are three taels of silver, which will increase to five taels once things stabilize.

Thinking about it, Third Lu felt very pleased in his heart.

Shu Yu felt that this Third Uncle had changed quite a bit. Having been outside for more than a year, even though he’s still somewhat timid, his mind has become sharper than before, at least understanding how to use strategies to resolve workplace issues.

After Third Lu finished speaking, he rubbed his hands and asked Shu Yu, “Yu, I came today because I wanted to borrow a mule carriage from you.”

At home, Shu Yu had two horses and two mules, making traveling quite convenient. One mule was used on the manor for Daniu to transport goods easily, and one horse was taken by Lu Erbai outside the city.

Shu Yu himself often drove Dabai, and the remaining mule carriage was kept at home for anyone who needed it.

Since Third Lu wanted to borrow a carriage, Shu Yu lent it to him but curiously asked, “Where are you going?”

“Oh.” Third Lu waved his hands, clearly wanting to laugh but suppressing it, trying his best to appear helpless yet calm, “Haven’t I become a steward? That’s a great thing, right? I need to make a trip back to Shangshi Village to tell my father.”

Shu Yu, “…” Are you that filial?

Third Lu said, “Back when my father was alive, he was always worried about me, afraid that I couldn’t even support myself, let alone a wife and children. At that time, he would sigh deeply every day. Now that I’ve become a steward, with such great news, I must tell him at his grave to let him rest easy.”

Shu Yu looked at him suspiciously, feeling that his words were not very sincere.
