My Alleged Husband

Chapter 774: Chapter 744: Faint Hope (Part 4)_1

Actually, this doctor was a good friend of Old Master Zhang. He was well aware that even though Old Master Zhang never spoke of it, he deeply cared for his son. Over the years, he had watched his friend change step by step into the state he was in now. He just never anticipated that such a blow would come so suddenly and so heavily, catching his friend off guard and forcing him to face such a blow.

Lei Kai, as Zhang Yichen’s good friend and brother, couldn’t bear to see his brother in such pain. He also hoped that nothing would happen to his own parents. For a cultivator, the most important thing was to live a life as carefree and happy as his.

She understood all too well how her brother had been living these years, how much he missed his parents, yet not once had his wishes come true. He had been tormented continuously, wanting nothing more than for his parents to live happily and joyfully, yet why were the results always so heartbreaking?

Now, everyone outside the hospital room was praying to heaven, hoping that the two people inside could safely get through the critical period and wake up during the last moments of cleansing. They didn’t want their family members to lie there forever; even if the patients might not feel it, such a situation was mental torture for those forced to make the decisions.

Seeing Zhang Yichen in so much pain, Lei Kai couldn’t help coming out to comfort him.

”Brother Yichen, don’t be too pessimistic. I believe that uncle and aunt will definitely wake up!

Even if no one else understands your parents, don’t you know them well? How proud they are? How could they tolerate spending their lives in bed, unable to move? It would be agonizing to them. They have their dignity and want to stand again. No matter how deep the coma is now, no matter if they haven’t awakened yet, I believe they absolutely have the willpower to stand up on their own. We must wait silently for that day to come. We can’t give up hope; even if there’s a sliver of it, we must hold on tight to it and not let our last hope disappear!”

”Xiao Kai, actually, I know that even if the whole world doesn’t understand me, you do because you realize what I’ve been through these years.

Although I’ve always blamed my parents for never being by my side, as their child, haven’t I longed for their presence too? God knows how much I’ve wished for her to return to my side. But when they finally did, I could only watch helplessly as they lay there, and there was nothing I could do.

Why am I such a failure as their son? I can’t even take care of my own parents’ safety. Do I really not deserve to be their son? How I long for them to wake up!

If only they would wake up, what does it matter if I give up all my business endeavors? I could disregard my career, my everything, but I can’t lose them again. The repeated losses terrify me.

Xiao Kai, you believe my parents will be okay, right? They’ve always had such a strong will to live; they’ve survived all these years like that. I believe they can pull through this. As soon as they do, I’ll set aside all my pride and apologize to them. I must make sure they can stay home in peace. This is all my fault. If I hadn’t meddled in this matter, they wouldn’t have decided to leave home for a trip so suddenly.

If not for me, they wouldn’t be lying here enduring such pain. What did I do wrong? Why has fate chosen to treat me this way? All I want is to live with my parents. After becoming an adult, I didn’t want them to keep fighting because it pains me to see them argue as their son. But in the end, I caused them this calamity!”

Lei Kai didn’t know what to say anymore. He knew his brother was full of blame and guilt inside, blaming himself for not protecting his mother, feeling guilty about getting involved, leading to such a severe turn of events. Even if this day was destined to come, perhaps it could have been delayed, not rushed like this.

Xiao Wei was also very worried.

He knew well how strong his sister’s will to live was. If it were not for the excruciating pain of the illness, his sister would surely be able to endure this trial.

”Child, don’t think too much. Your uncle believes in your mother, and so should you. No matter what changes occur in the world, no matter how this situation evolves, you should have faith in your parents and their strong will to live. If it weren’t for such determination, how could we have survived the jianghu over the years, enduring bullets passing through us one after another? Do you know the pain of that? It is a far more severe injury than this.

Your mother was not afraid of a bullet piercing her heart, so why would she fear the pain a car accident brings? She’s just tired and wants a good rest. Once she has rested, she will naturally wake up. All we need is to hold on to hope and not overexert ourselves trying to keep up appearances.”

”Uncle, I know you’re trying to comfort me, but no matter what, I will take your words to heart because I believe that deep down, that’s what you think. No matter how difficult it might be for my parents, no matter how hard their lives become, even if they have to spend their lives lying in bed unable to move, as their son, I will take care of them every day, stay by their side, and let them know that their son is with them and has never left.

Maybe that will wake them up. I don’t believe my parents are truly heartless. Even if they abandoned me, I want them to know that I still love them, and this love won’t change regardless of any decision they make because they are my deepest dependence, the familial bond I can’t sever in this lifetime!

The chances of them waking up now are very slim; I know they’ve surpassed the optimal window for awakening without a doctor telling me, but I still hold on to a thread of hope!”
