My Alleged Husband

Chapter 761: Chapter 731 Intensive Care Unit_1

Ran Zhihan looked at Zhang Yichen’s face, knowing that her husband must be very anxious right now. With all his family members here, how could he not be worried?

If only the situation this time weren’t so terrible, how wonderful that would be. But unfortunately, it was not as simple as she had imagined—they had been involved in a severe car accident.

She knew she couldn’t give her husband anything right now, perhaps only silent comfort.

Zhang Ni had just finished his secret base training abroad and returned home.

He excitedly returned home, but when he arrived, he found not a single person there. He couldn’t understand why his parents, grandparents, and great-grandfather were not home.

Such a thing had never happened before—had something significant occurred today? Why was nobody home? Did they all leave for good?

When Zhang Ni was frantically looking for his family members at home, Old Master Zhang drove back to the house.

The moment he saw Old Master Zhang, he felt both excited and happy. It had been so long since he had seen his great-grandfather, who had always been so kind to him. But why didn’t his great-grandfather seem particularly happy today?

”Great-grandfather, Nai’er is back. Why don’t you look happy today? Has something happened? Why aren’t my parents home? When I just arrived, there was no one home. What have you all been doing? And where are my grandparents? Weren’t they said to have come back home? They couldn’t have gone out again, right?”

Zhang Ni bombarded Old Master Zhang with a series of questions. Not knowing how to tell his young grandson the harsh truth, he wondered, ”Will it really not hurt her? She always hoped that her grandparents could receive forgiveness from the family. He, too, hoped to earn the love of his grandparents. But why has everything suddenly become like this? Can she bear it?”

Zhang Ni saw Elder Zhang not speaking, and he became increasingly impatient. Was there really another incident? Why was his grandfather just standing in front of him, staring blankly without speaking?

”Great-grandfather, what exactly is going on? If there’s something, can you just tell me clearly? Stop treating me like a child. I’ve once again endured the toughest devilish training. I’m not the ordinary person I used to be anymore. I believe I have the capacity to handle it. Just say it—what is it?”

”Could it be that I don’t have to worry? But seeing you like this, speechless and hesitating, I’m really worried. Has something really happened? Why are you here alone without my parents?”

”Child, it’s okay. I just want to ask you, if your grandparents had an accident, would you worry about them? Would it make you anxious and upset?”

”Great-grandfather, stop joking with me. Even though I sometimes find my grandparents annoying for not being at home with me, in my heart, they have always been invincible. I believe nothing will happen to them. Don’t tease me like this!”

”Just tell me straight, where are my parents and grandparents? Did they go out to buy me something delicious?” Nai’er was lost in his own world, not paying attention to whether Elder Zhang’s words were true or false. He felt that his grandparents were invincible beings who could come and go as they pleased. How could anything really happen to them?

Thinking something was off, he muttered to himself, ”That’s not right. I didn’t tell my parents or my grandparents that I would be returning home early. I just wanted to surprise them today.

”If they didn’t know I was coming home early, how could they be out getting me a gift? Could it be that something really happened to them? But they’ve always been so capable. Can anything really happen in this world where security is so tight?”

”Great-grandfather, are you not joking with me?

”Are my parents in the hospital attending to my grandparents or something? Why does the atmosphere feel so wrong today?

”Why is everyone making the mood so somber? The expressions on your faces don’t seem feigned. Can all of you just tell me what happened? Being reluctant to speak and keeping everyone on tenterhooks is unnerving!”

Indeed, he felt it was time for the child to know about these things. In any case, it’s better to grow up earlier and experience such things than to be confronted with them suddenly in the future, which might be even more unbearable.

In the end, he decided to tell Zhang Ni everything exactly as it happened.

”Nai’er, listen well. I hope you won’t be too saddened by what you’re about to hear. Your grandparents were planning to travel abroad yesterday, but they were involved in a severe car accident on the highway. Now, they are lying in the intensive care unit. One of them might never wake up again for the rest of their life, and the other might be bound to a wheelchair forever. Can you accept this outcome?”

Upon hearing these words, Zhang Ni didn’t panic. He was now in a state of composure, having accomplished all the qualifications of a true heir.

”Great-grandfather, I want to go to the hospital to see them. I don’t want my parents to be there all alone with my grandparents. My grandparents must need my encouragement now. I believe the world is not so merciless, and I believe miracles can happen. I believe they can stand up again, and that they will come to their senses. I believe in a better tomorrow that is still beckoning to them.”

Elder Zhang didn’t know what more to say. He felt that he shouldn’t go to the hospital anymore. If he went, it would only make his grandson more worried about him. He had the driver take Zhang Ni to the hospital. When he arrived outside the intensive care unit, and he saw the anxious looks on his parents’ faces, his heart was filled with concern. He worried that his parents might not be able to bear such a blow. He also worried, if his grandparents really could not be brought back to life, how despairing his parents would be?
