My Alleged Husband

Chapter 765: Chapter 735 Persistent Coma_1

Old Master Zhang waited day after day, always hoping that his son would fully awaken. However, despite the waiting, he never got a definite answer. The doctors said they had missed the best window for awakening, and it might be impossible for him to regain consciousness in this lifetime.

For the aged Old Master Zhang, this was undoubtedly a devastating blow. He never imagined he would face such an outcome. His only wish was for his family to be safe, and now his actions had made everything so hard to accept.

Zhang Yichen watched his grandfather be heartbroken time and again, and he could hardly bear to speak any harsh words about the significance. He knew his grandfather never wanted things to turn out this way. None of this was what anyone wanted. But now that things were as they were, how could he resent the world or fate?

Ran Zhihan watched her husband and grandfather-in-law grow haggard each day as they struggled against death. They wanted to pull their beloved back, to keep them from the brink of death. No matter how much they cried out, their pleas met with no response. The patient lay asleep, as if the world had quieted, as if time itself had stopped, without a hint of movement to awaken them.

”Grandpa, you should go back and rest now. You’ve been here so long, and if you keep going like this, imagine how worried and guilty mom and dad would be to wake up and see you like this!”

”You are the pillar of this family. If you pass out or wear yourself down, what are we to do? We can’t bear any more blows. Now, two of our family members are lying here, and I don’t want anything else to happen to you. Please take good care of yourself. If not for anything else, do it for the sake of our whole family, okay?”

Zhang Yichen tried to persuade his grandfather. He didn’t want to see his grandfather’s health fail. If his grandfather really broke down again, it would destroy all the hopes of their entire family.

How could Old Master Zhang possibly sleep peacefully, when his family was lying there motionless? As a father, he had never been by their side, never taken care of them. Now that they were here, wasn’t it his duty as a father to stay with them, to cheer them on? As a spouse, how could he sneak back to sleep, fearing that his child would wake up frightened not to find him there?

”Yichen, I don’t want to do anything else right now. I only want to stay in the hospital in peace. I want to witness your mom and dad waking up with my own eyes. It would be a moment to witness a miracle. I don’t want them to feel any regret.”

”I’ve never been there for them, but now, how can I sneak away to sleep alone? They need my company too. As a father, I should stay by their side and cheer them on. I should keep calling out to them earnestly. Maybe if they hear me calling, they will hurry to wake up. They wouldn’t want to see this old man live in such anxiety, would they?”

”They are your mom and dad. I know you worry about them too, but they’re also my family, my children. How can I not worry? As a parent, I’ve always wanted them to live peacefully. I wish they could live happily and safely. It’s incredibly important for everyone. Maybe others don’t care, but I do. From the moment they came home, from that instant they decided to stay for me, I made up my mind. Whenever they needed me, I would be by their side. I’d pay any price to support every decision they made. In the past, my actions deeply hurt them, which led to today’s outcome. Yet, I can only watch helplessly as they endure this pain.”

”Oh, how I wish I could share some of their suffering! They’re my children! And here I am, a father who can do nothing to help them. This feeling is a profound frustration!”

”Child, I believe you can understand the feelings in my heart. You don’t want your grandpa to live a life perceived as a failure, do you? You also want your mom and dad to see their dad when they wake up, right?”

Zhang Yichen suddenly realized he could no longer argue with his grandfather. His grandfather was too stubborn, and he had no way to confront him.

Maybe his grandfather was right. Perhaps the first people his parents would want to see upon awakening wouldn’t be him, but his grandfather. He felt the greatest debt of all these years was to him. How could they bear to let him suffer alone? You’ve paid so much for them, always proving your love with your life’s dedication.

But the doctors had already issued the notice of a persistent coma, and it might lead to a critical condition. The likelihood that they would never wake again was something he agonizingly had to communicate to his grandfather. That knowledge would likely break his heart.

As a junior member of the family, she couldn’t bear to let her family fall into despair again and again. She couldn’t bear her family sacrificing everything for her, ending up with nothing to offer them. So what right did she have to decide others’ lives over and over?

”Grandpa, if you wish to stay here, you can, but you have to promise me one thing. No matter what, you must take care of your health. I don’t want any mistakes in taking care of mom and dad to hurt you.”

”If that happens, I’ll never forgive myself, and neither will my parents. So, please cherish your health, so when mom and dad wake up, they’ll see a vibrant father standing before them. That would be the greatest comfort in this world for them!”
