My Alleged Husband

Chapter 771: Chapter 741 Faint Hope (Part 1)_1

A few hours had passed, and Li Jiayuan lay dozing in the hospital corridor, asleep on a chair. He was truly exhausted, having rushed back from the United States only to find that his family member had not yet awakened. He had come to treat Xia Tian as one of his own.

There had been so many unhappy moments and conflicts between them in the past, they had never got along as harmoniously as they did now. Just as their relationship started to improve, this happened.

Zhang Yichen looked at his aunt sleeping there in a daze, feeling genuinely guilty. He had never imagined that the relationship between his aunt and his mother could be so close that she would refuse to leave, choosing instead to stay and watch over her sister-in-law.

Xiao Wei and Lei Kai hadn’t left either. Xiao Wei had been keeping vigil here for a full week now, and had grown accustomed to being here late into the night, continuing to wait beside his sister and brother-in-law.

Zhang Yichen, I feel that the bond we share is not just like siblings but even surpasses it, which is incredibly precious.

”Uncle, why don’t you take aunt and cousin back to rest? I’m enough here by myself. You’ve been accompanying us here for several days now, and I can’t bear to see you all so tired. If my mother wakes up, she would be upset deep down as well.

You can go back now and come find me tomorrow, come replace me tomorrow. It’s not a solution for us all to keep waiting like this. If everyone keeps on waiting day in and day out, eventually everyone will collapse from exhaustion. Then who will be there to take over for us? If there’s nobody available when we need help the most, won’t the situation be even worse?”

Xiao Wei thought that every word Zhang Yichen said made sense, but he also didn’t know what to say. Even if he spoke sensibly, what good would it do?

The person lying in there was his sister; how could he not worry? How much his grandmother had helped him, only he knew deep in his heart. He could not possibly leave his sister to endure all the pain alone.

”Yichen, uncle knows that everything you say is for our good, but you don’t understand our feelings. For all these years, how much your mother has helped me, no one knows the extent of it, not a soul knows the kind of support your mother has given me.

If it weren’t for your mother’s help, I couldn’t have made it this far. The moment I decided to ’wash my hands of it’ and get married, it was your mother who stood out alone and took the blame, allowing your uncle to retire safely. This debt of gratitude, I will never forget it in my heart. Your mother has sacrificed so much; how could I just abandon her heartlessly? Uncle is not ungrateful, and I believe you understand that, otherwise, I wouldn’t have rushed back from miles away upon hearing she was in trouble.”

”Uncle, of course, I know you are not ungrateful. But some things can’t be forgotten just because you say you want to forget them.”

But you also know my mom is currently lying in the hospital, her life hanging by a thread, and even the doctors aren’t sure when she can awaken. My heart is in a hurry, and I worry something bad might happen to my mom and dad. They are my pillar of strength; despite their absence all these years, I’ve always regarded them as my family deep in my heart.

Seeing them like this, how could I, as their son, not feel pain deep down? But there’s nothing I can do. I can only make myself strong within, I cannot let my mom and dad know how worried I am. If they knew how sad I was, it would make them unhappy too.

I believe that once they wake up, they will surely come around.

Even if the entire world doesn’t believe in my parents, I believe in them. I trust that deep down in their hearts they always have me, their son. I trust that for my sake, they will fight to survive. I am their reason to keep living.

Uncle, maybe you don’t know how hard my parents have had it over the years, but I, as their son, do know a bit. How could they not miss home while drifting out there? But even if they longed for home, they could only choose to wander because they were afraid to see us.

In the depths of my parents’ hearts, they are burdened with deep guilt because they feel they’ve let us down over the years. But what they don’t know is that at the moment they decided to return, our entire family had chosen to forgive them. No one could continue to hold hatred against them. Even if their actions seem shameful in the eyes of others, to me, they’re a source of pride. I am not ashamed that my mom is a Mercenary; instead, I am proud of her. Because she, through her own efforts, has saved so many lives and accomplished what many others could not!”

Xiao Wei, he doesn’t understand how joyful and happy his aunt would be deep down if she heard her son express such sentiments.

In his aunt’s mind, he has always thought that his son only has deep disdain for her, never looking her in the eyes. But he doesn’t know that, deep down, her son also admires his mother profoundly.

”Child, I really don’t know how blissful it would make your mom if she could hear you say these words. If she could choose to hear, she’d surely be grinning from ear to ear. All these years, she thought you regarded her as a disgrace, but you actually take pride in her.

I really hope your mom awakens and can hear you say these things. If so, she’d surely live out the rest of her days happily. No matter how difficult the obstacles, just thinking of you will give her the strength to keep going.”

Zhang Yichen, how could he not understand what his mom truly feels inside? But some things are still hard to say out loud, perhaps out of a sense of personal dignity.

”Uncle, if my mom could wake up now, let alone anything else, just let me stand in front of her and say these words, I would do it without hesitation. These words have always been pressed deep inside me, kept as a secret within. As a man’s pride, I find them hard to express, but if I don’t say them now, I’m really afraid I might never see my mother again!”
