Super Rich by Doing as You Please

The shop owner was thrilled, thinking he’d fleeced a wealthy customer.

Xu Yun, on the other hand, was thrilled that he’d scored a major find.

He didn’t tell Xino about it. After buying the item, he just casually slipped it into his pocket.

He planned to give the jade to his mom later for her to wear.

After grabbing a bite to eat in town at noon, the two of them headed to Lingyin Temple on Feilai Peak to burn incense and pray.

Xu Yun wasn’t a believer, but he couldn’t refuse Xino’s insistence.

So he went with her.

As soon as they entered the temple, a monk sitting before the Merit Box rose, pressed his palms together, and addressed them. ”Benefactors, I can see from your faces that you have an affinity with the Buddha. Might you be willing to accumulate some merit for yourselves?”

”I’d say everyone has a connection to the Buddha—a monetary one!”

Xu Yun couldn’t help but chuckle. ”But I don’t have any cash on me, so my connection with your Buddha Lord must be quite poor.”

”No problem. I have a QR code right here.”

The monk pulled out a printed QR code. ”It’s all the same if you scan it with your phone, Benefactor.”

”...”

Xu Yun shook his head and sighed. ”So it’s true... the Buddha only saves those with funds!”

’He probably saw how we were dressed and decided we were people with funds!’

Since the monk had gone this far, Xu Yun figured he should at least play along and make a small gesture.

Xu Yun took out his phone, scanned the code, and paid one yuan.

”There. Our merit has been transferred.”

Xu Yun said, ”I hope your Buddha Lord can feel my sincerity.”

The monk was speechless. ”...”

Standing to the side, Xino couldn’t help but laugh at the monk’s speechless expression.

After they left the front hall, she said to Xu Yun, ”That was so mean of you. Aren’t you afraid the Buddha Lord will get angry?”

”If he’s a true Buddha, he’d be free from worldly desires. Why would he get angry with me over something so trivial?”

Xu Yun chuckled. ”And if he’s a false Buddha, why should I care what he thinks?”

”It only works if you have a sincere heart. You may not believe, but I do.”

Xino pouted. ”Why don’t you go wander around for a bit? I’m going to the main hall to make a wish. I’ll find you when I’m done.”

”Alright.”

Xu Yun watched as Xino knelt on a prayer cushion in the Main Hall, making a sincere wish. He then turned and began to wander through Lingyin Temple by himself.

He didn’t know what wish Xino would make.

But he knew that if he were to make a wish, it would be for his mother’s health and well-being.

...

「Somewhere in the temple.」

Lin Suiling’s mind was in turmoil because of Xu Yun yesterday. Unable to calm herself, she had decided to come here and ask about her fortune in love.

Everyone online said that prayers at Lingyin Temple were truly answered.

So she wanted to give it a try!

On her way, she came across a little monk playing on the steps. She stopped and asked, ”Little one, are the wishes made at this temple really granted?”

”They are.”

”Really granted, or is that just a story?”

The little monk replied in a high-pitched, childish voice, ”They’re really granted. If you don’t believe me, just try.”

”Alright, then I’ll give it a try.”

Lin Suiling smiled, stood where she was, closed her eyes, and made a sincere wish. ”I wish for my future husband to appear before me right now.”

After speaking, she waited a few seconds before opening her eyes.

But unfortunately, there was no one in front of her.

”See, little one? It didn’t work.”

The little monk giggled. ”Turn around.”

”???”

Hearing this, Lin Suiling turned around, only to see Xu Yun standing right behind her, a smile on his face as he watched her.

Lin Suiling’s eyes went wide in disbelief.

Their eyes met.

But the feelings in that gaze were worlds apart.

Just as Lin Suiling was reeling in stunned disbelief, Xu Yun teased, ”Fancy meeting you here. You’re not secretly following me, are you?”

”Who—who’s following you?”

For the first time, Lin Suiling grew flustered. ”It’s not like you own the place,” she retorted, her face flushing. ”Are you the only one allowed to be here?”

”If you’re not following me, why are you blushing?”

”I am not blushing.”

Lin Suiling retorted without conviction, ”It’s just the wind. It’s cold here.”

”So, what were you doing standing here all by yourself with your eyes closed?”

Xu Yun asked tentatively, ”You weren’t making a wish, were you? That’s strange. Aren’t you supposed to kneel in the main hall for that?”

”What’s it to you? I’ll do it here if I want to.”

”So what did you wish for?”

”Why should I tell you?”

Lin Suiling took a step back, putting some distance between herself and Xu Yun. She changed the subject. ”What about you? What are you doing here alone? Not with your girlfriend anymore?”

”I’m not alone.”

Xu Yun replied, ”I came with her. She’s probably still in the main hall making her wish, so I was just wandering around. I never expected to run into you. Wouldn’t you say we’re fated to meet?”

”Not at all.”

Thinking about the wish she’d just made, Lin Suiling said sullenly, ”If we are, it’s a cursed fate. So annoying!”

With that, she turned on her heel and walked away quickly.

”???”

Xu Yun froze, completely baffled.

He glanced at the little monk playing nearby, sat down, and asked casually, ”What was up with that lady just now? She seemed so angry.”

”She made a wish.”

The little monk thought for a moment, then recounted seriously, ”The lady said she wished for her future husband to appear before her right now. And then... you showed up, big brother.”

”Er...” Xu Yun was at a loss for words.

’This Lingyin Temple is really something else!’

’With a coincidence like that, Lin Suiling must be convinced by now that I’m her future husband.’

’Ha ha...’

’I have to go burn a few sticks of premium incense for the Buddha Lord later!’

Just then, Xino, having finished her wish, came over from the front hall to find him.

She smiled and said, ”What are you doing all the way over here?”

”It’s quieter in the back.”

Xu Yun smiled and asked, ”Are you all done?”

”All done. I even got you a Peace Talisman.”

Xino pulled a Small Sandalwood Rosary from her pocket. ”Here, for you. It was blessed by a high-ranking monk.”

”Thanks.”

Xu Yun took it, slipped it onto his wrist, and said, ”Let’s go. Time to head to Lv Yuan and pick up my property deed.”
