Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Xu Yun, Don’t Be Too Arrogant

In the boss’s office.

Gu Heng looked at Su Mu, who stood before him. He wasn’t losing his temper, but his expression was grim.

Two photographs lay on the desk.

One was of Su Mu kissing Xu Yun in her office, and the other showed the two of them driving back to their residential complex in the same car.

The nature of their relationship was clear. Nothing more needed to be said.

Su Mu saw the photos too, but she sat on a nearby sofa, completely unfazed.

’So what if he found out? It’s not a big deal.’

’I’m a single, independent woman, and Xu Yun is a single man.’

’We’re not cheating on a husband or wife. Who would dare say anything? What could they even say?’

She just hadn’t expected that Manager Li would be the one to secretly take pictures of her.

”Su Mu, what were you thinking? If your dad finds out about this, how am I supposed to explain it to him?”

Gu Heng said, exasperated, ”Your dad was already unhappy about you coming to work for me. And now you’re mixed up with a younger man who has no real prospects. What’s going through your head?”

”Just because I’m divorced doesn’t mean I can’t see other men, does it?”

Su Mu shot back, refusing to be outdone, ”Am I supposed to stay a widow for the rest of my life? You have a wife, and you still found someone on the side. I’m single, so what I’m doing is wrong?”

”That’s not what I mean!”

Gu Heng knew his cousin was bringing up his affair to put him on the spot.

She was basically telling him not to tell her dad about this.

”What I mean is, even if you’re going to find someone, you could at least find someone better.”

Gu Heng said, baffled, ”I mean, really, why go for a low-level employee?

What can he do for you?

What can he give you? What, are you planning on supporting him?”

”Stay out of my business.”

Su Mu said irritably, ”Just pretend you don’t know anything about this. If you dare tell my dad, I’ll go talk to your wife.”

”...” Gu Heng was speechless.

’Even though she’s my cousin, I’m still her boss right now.’

”Su Mu, you need to remember that you’re working in my company. You’re my employee.

We have a strict policy against office romances.”

”Then I’ll just quit.”

Gu Heng said, his head aching, ”Alright, just get out for now.”

Before Su Mu left, she turned back and said, ”I was the one who initiated everything. I hope you won’t give Xu Yun any trouble.”

”...” Gu Heng fell silent again.

After Su Mu left, he thought it over and decided that since he couldn’t persuade her for the time being, he would deal with the people who had caused the trouble first.

One was Manager Li, and the other was Xu Yun.

’If Manager Li dares to secretly take pictures of Su Mu in the office today, he could just as easily take pictures of me tomorrow.’

’I can’t have someone like that around.’

’As for Xu Yun... I don’t have to target him directly, but if he resigns on his own, that’s got nothing to do with me, right?’

When Su Mu came out, everyone looked at her, but they saw her return to her office without any unusual expression.

Xu Yun knew about Su Mu’s relationship with the boss, so he wasn’t worried at all. Whatever Manager Li said, could it really outweigh the bond between cousins?

He had expected the boss to call him in for a talk next, but instead, the boss had someone summon Manager Li.

As Manager Li passed by Xu Yun, he shot him a disdainful glance before walking in with a happy expression.

”President Gu, you wanted to see me?”

Gu Heng looked at Manager Li, who had just entered, and said, ”Manager Li, how many years have you been with the company?”

”Four years, President Gu.”

”Did you start at the same time as Xu Yun?”

Manager Li froze for a moment at the mention of Xu Yun’s name, then replied, ”Yes, we joined the company at the same time.”

”Then you must be quite capable. You’ve already been promoted to manager, while he’s still a low-level employee.”

”It’s all thanks to your guidance, President Gu.”

Manager Li asked cautiously, ”President Gu, how should we handle the matter with Xu Yun and Manager Su?”

’He couldn’t believe the boss would tolerate something like this!’

”What do you think?”

”I think they should both be fired!”

Manager Li said with some indignation, ”You have no idea, boss. While you were on your business trip, those two were completely out of line.

Especially Xu Yun. With Manager Su backing him, he’s shown no sense of organization or discipline, talks back to his superiors, and often leaves early or arrives late.”

”How did you get these photos?”

”I stumbled upon their relationship by accident. I figured words alone wouldn’t be enough, so I gathered evidence, waiting for you to return, President Gu, so I could expose their sordid affair.

So I started paying close attention to them and finally managed to get these shots.”

Gu Heng watched him with a cold stare and suddenly asked, ”Will you one day take pictures of me too?”

”Ah, President Gu, you must be joking.”

Manager Li was startled and swore, ”President Gu, I would never do something like that.”

”It’s fine, I was just asking.”

Gu Heng said, ”You can go. And send Xu Yun in.”

”Yes, President Gu.”

Manager Li came out of the office with a smile on his face, walked over to Xu Yun, and said, ”The boss wants to see you.”

”Seeing that happy look on your face, I take it I’m in for some bad luck?”

”Hmph, what do you think? Don’t assume no one in the entire company knows what you’ve been up to.”

Manager Li said bluntly, ”Just wait until you’re kicked out of the company.”

”Oh? You sound pretty confident this time.”

Xu Yun stood up with a smile. ”I’m actually a little curious what you said to President Gu.”

”Let’s see if you’re still smiling in a little while,” Manager Li snorted before walking away.

Everyone looked at Xu Yun, unsure of what was happening, but they were all worried for him.

After all, if he really left, who would buy them coffee anymore?

Their concern for Xu Yun wasn’t about what he would do if he lost his job, but about losing the person who treated them to free coffee.

Human nature can be so cold.

As Xu Yun reached the boss’s office door, Su Mu walked over and blocked his path.

Xu Yun asked, ”What are you doing?”

”Later, no matter what President Gu says, you put all the blame on me.”

Su Mu said, ”You know my relationship with him. He won’t do anything to me.”

”We’ll see,” Xu Yun replied nonchalantly, then knocked and walked in.

He closed the door behind him.

Gu Heng stared at the man before him. He figured the only reason Su Mu would get involved with him was because she was taken by his good looks.

’But for a man, looks are the most useless thing. Money and power are the best cosmetic surgery.’

’Su Mu isn’t some naive young woman anymore. How could she not see through this?’

Gu Heng didn’t speak, and neither did Xu Yun.

After a dozen or so seconds, Gu Heng said meaningfully, ”I understand wanting to take a shortcut instead of working hard, but you chose the wrong person. At least, not in my company. That won’t be allowed.”

”President Gu, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Just like Su Mu, Xu Yun casually sat down in the chair opposite him.

Seeing Xu Yun’s insolent behavior, Gu Heng said with displeasure, ”It seems Manager Li was right. You really have gotten arrogant lately.”

”Not at all. I’m just tired of being treated like a beast of burden.”

Xu Yun added, ”Besides, President Gu, if you have something to say, just say it. No need to beat around the bush.”

”Fine.”

Gu Heng said, ”Then take a look at this first.”

With that, he placed the two photos in front of Xu Yun.

Xu Yun picked them up and looked.

’Well, I’ll be damned. Someone actually took a picture of me and Su Mu kissing.’

Gu Heng said, his face devoid of expression, ”What do you have to say for yourself now?”

”Not bad. It’s actually a pretty good picture.”

Xu Yun put down the photos and smiled casually. ”President Gu, can I have this one? As a souvenir.”

”...”

Gu Heng was completely provoked by Xu Yun’s nonchalant attitude.

He said angrily, ”Xu Yun, Su Mu is not a woman you can touch. She’s probably just with you for the novelty of it.

Don’t think that just because you’ve latched onto her, you can do whatever you want in my company.

You’ve been with the company for four years, so I’ll let you save some face. After you leave my office, submit your resignation voluntarily.

That way, you can avoid the ugliness of being fired by the company, which wouldn’t look good and could affect your future job prospects.”

”Thank you for your concern, President Gu.”

Xu Yun replied, still unconcerned, ”I think it would be better if the company fired me. As long as you compensate me according to the labor laws, I’m fine with it.”

”Xu Yun, are you really determined to burn this bridge with the company?”

”President Gu, you want to fire someone without paying severance? There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”

Xu Yun didn’t back down and retorted directly, ”What’s between Manager Su and me is our business. You may be her cousin, but you don’t have the right to control her life, do you?”

”Take a good look at yourself.”

Gu Heng said, ”Are you even worthy of Su Mu? Besides being a pretty boy who sponges off women, what do you have to offer?”

”Fuck you! I have nothing to offer?”

Xu Yun dropped the act and fired back, ”More than half of this company’s business was secured by me.

Without me working myself to the bone, day and night, to make money for you, would you be sitting here lecturing me?”

”...” Gu Heng was stunned into silence.

”I’ve been sick of your shit for a long time. You never saw all the overtime I worked, night after night.

Li Guangxi started at the same time as me, but all he knows how to do is kiss your ass. He doesn’t know shit, yet you treated him like a treasure and promoted him to manager.

You must be fucking blind.”

”Xu Yun!”

Furious at being cursed out like this, Gu Heng slammed his hand on the desk, shot to his feet, and roared, ”Do you know who you’re talking to?”

”I’m talking to a dog!”

Xu Yun sneered, ”When I worked for you, I put up with you.

Now that I’m quitting, what the fuck are you to me?”

As he spoke, Xu Yun picked up a cup from the desk.

Gu Heng flinched, asking nervously, ”What are you doing?”

”Look at you, you coward.”

Xu Yun contemptuously smashed the cup onto the floor.

CRASH!

The cup shattered, splashing water everywhere.

The commotion instantly alerted everyone outside.

Su Mu was the first to rush in.

Manager Li was the second.

The others didn’t dare to enter, so they could only watch and listen quietly from outside.

Su Mu saw the shattered glass on the floor, went to Xu Yun’s side, and asked with concern, ”Are you okay? What happened?”

”I’m fine.”

Su Mu glared at Gu Heng, assuming he had thrown the cup. ”Are you crazy?” she fumed. ”If you have something to say, then say it. Why are you smashing things?”

”...” Gu Heng was silent.

Xu Yun pulled her back and smiled. ”It wasn’t him. I smashed it.”

Su Mu: ”???”

”I just thought an argument isn’t complete without smashing something. It adds to the atmosphere, you know?”

Su Mu: ”...”

Hearing this and seeing Gu Heng’s ashen face, Manager Li turned to Xu Yun and snapped, ”What do you think you’re doing! This is the office, not your home! Stop acting so wild!”

”None of your damn business. Who the hell do you think you are? You have no right to speak here.”

Xu Yun looked at Manager Li and said, ”What the fuck can you do besides kissing ass all day?”

Being cursed at so openly, Manager Li couldn’t keep his composure.

”Xu Yun, don’t be so arrogant.”
