Super Rich by Doing as You Please

Chapter 66: Chapter 66: A Warning from Su Mu

The Chow Taifook store anniversary event was tomorrow, and Song Xiaowei had stayed up all night writing a script for it.

When she arrived at the company this morning, she handed it to Xu Yun.

”Take a look. I finished writing this yesterday.” Song Xiaowei wore a very confident expression.

She waited, expecting Xu Yun to praise her after he finished reading.

But after Xu Yun finished, there was no praise. Instead, he frowned and shot back, ”You stayed up all night writing, and *this* is what you came up with?”

”???” Song Xiaowei.

”This won’t work. Go and write a new one.”

Hearing Xu Yun’s words, Song Xiaowei was indignant. ”Why won’t it work?” she demanded.

”This reads like a template script you’d use to pass an exam. It might be fine for a formal occasion, but it’s not suitable for this event.”

Xu Yun explained, ”This event is mainly aimed at everyday people, consumers, and especially older folks.

To put it simply, your script is like a castle in the air—it’s completely out of touch. It won’t get the crowd excited at all.”

”I disagree. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what I wrote.”

”Fine. How about this, then?”

Xu Yun said with a smile, ”Why don’t we send your script to our client? Let’s see what she thinks, shall we?”

”Fine.”

The other colleagues in the office gathered to watch the drama unfold.

Someone whispered, ”A new intern arguing with her supervisor? She must be brainless.”

”Exactly. Even if she wins the argument, so what? Xu Yun’s opinion is crucial for whether she gets a permanent position.”

”You men just don’t get it.”

A female colleague said, ”She’s probably just here to pad her résumé. I doubt she has any intention of staying.”

”Exactly. She’s got big ambitions.”

”Just think back to when we were interns. Would we have dared to act like this?”

”And you single guys, still sucking up to her, thinking you have a chance. Do you really think she gives you the time of day?”

”Then look at Xu Yun. Is he anything like you?”

”...” The other men fell silent instantly.

Xu Yun took out his phone, pulled up Jiang Peiyao’s WeChat, and sent her Song Xiaowei’s script.

[Xu Yun: Manager Jiang, here’s the script for the event. Let me know what you think.]

A few minutes later.

[Jiang Peiyao: Did you write this? It’s... fine. There are no major issues, but there’s nothing that stands out either.

Personally, I feel it’s a bit too formal and conventional. It doesn’t quite match the style of your event proposal.

But you’re the one planning the event, and you’re the expert, so I’ll defer to your judgment.

If you think it works, then it works.]

Inside the Chow Taifook store, Jiang Peiyao felt a pang of regret right after sending the message.

’I hope I didn’t offend him by saying that.’

Fortunately, her worry was unfounded.

Xu Yun’s reply came back quickly.

[Xu Yun: Understood. To be honest, I’m not satisfied with it either. I’ll write a new draft for you.]

Jiang Peiyao breathed a sigh of relief.

[Jiang Peiyao: Thank you. I appreciate you going to the trouble.]

Xu Yun showed the message on his phone screen to Song Xiaowei. ”See? The client isn’t satisfied.”

”...” Song Xiaowei.

’The script I worked so hard on all night was just shot down like that.’

”You called my script a ’castle in the air.’ Are you sure you can write a better one?”

Xu Yun chuckled. ”As a matter of fact, I have one right here. Care to take a look?”

”Fine. Send it to me.”

After receiving Xu Yun’s file and looking it over, Song Xiaowei couldn’t help but comment, ”This script seems completely unprofessional. It’s full of conversational filler, the wording isn’t rigorous, and it even sounds a bit childish.”

”What do everyday people know about ’professionalism’? They just want to hear things they enjoy and can understand.”

Xu Yun said, ”And here I thought you were a broadcasting major. A host’s style on television versus in public, or in a recording studio versus on the street, is completely different.

This is an outdoor anniversary celebration. To be blunt, it’s just the merchant using the anniversary as an excuse to run a promotion.

It’s no different from a field marketing event. The host’s job is to use their words to get the crowd fired up and create an impulse to buy.”

”That’s not a host! That’s just a salesperson!”

’Song Xiaowei couldn’t believe her first real job opportunity was for an event like this.’

”Right. You can think of it that way.”

Xu Yun said, exasperated, ”Not every host gets to work for a high-end television station right after graduation, reading the news with a straight face.

The vast majority end up doing the exact kind of work you just scoffed at.

Like wedding emcees, variety show hosts, live event hosts, and so on.

I may not be a host, but I know their most important trait is the ability to adapt to any situation on the fly and prevent any on-air disasters.”

”...” Song Xiaowei.

”Weren’t you so confident in your script? Didn’t you look down on mine?”

Xu Yun continued, ”So, how about I send my script to the client now? We’ll see what she says.”

”Fine.”

So, Xu Yun sent his script to Jiang Peiyao.

A reply came back from her very quickly.

[Jiang Peiyao: This script is excellent! Much better than the last one. I was beginning to doubt you even wrote that first one, haha...]

Song Xiaowei’s expression turned ugly as she read the reply.

’The script I’d sneered at was actually getting this much praise from the client.’

”School and the real world aren’t the same thing.”

Xu Yun said, ”Once you’re out of school, you’re a rookie. You need to learn to be humble and willing to learn.”

Feeling everyone’s eyes on her, Song Xiaowei returned to her desk and stared blankly into space.

’I can’t believe I was just shown up in my own area of expertise by some guy who looks like a lazy amateur.’

’And he criticized me into the ground.’

’The worst part was that the verdict came from an impartial third party!’

[In response to the intern’s doubt, the Host has crushed her confidence and displayed his strength, an action of ”Do as You Please.” Reward: 100,000 cash.]

Current Bank Balance: 9,480,000.

’There’s a reward for this too?’

It wasn’t a huge amount, but Xu Yun hadn’t expected it at all. It was a pleasant surprise!

Xiaopang came over, smiling. ”She must be so bummed out now. You completely crushed her.”

”Does she think she’s still in school? That just because she has good grades in her major and a pretty face, everyone’s supposed to worship her?”

Xu Yun said coolly, ”You guys can spoil her, but I won’t. She just got here and hasn’t even learned to walk, yet she’s already acting like she wants to fly. Let her crash and burn.”

”She just had the bad luck of running into a monster like you.”

Xiaopang glanced at Song Xiaowei’s script. ”To be fair, hers is actually pretty good. You can tell she’s got real talent.”

”What company doesn’t have talented people?”

Xu Yun said, ”Can you get promoted just by being talented? Talent is just the bare minimum.”

Xiaopang said nothing.

’That’s true. If ability was all it took to get promoted, Xu Yun would have been in Manager Li’s position long ago.’

Su Mu had seen everything from her office, and she frowned.

In the breakroom, she ran into Song Xiaowei and said coolly, ”Song Xiaowei, I hired you to work, not to bicker with your colleagues.

This is a company, not a school.

If you want to have a successful internship, you will listen to Xu Yun. If you’re not here to learn, you can leave tomorrow.

Understood?”

Su Mu looked at her, and though her voice was soft, the invisible pressure she exuded was palpable, and Song Xiaowei felt it.

”I understand, Manager Su.” Hearing Su Mu’s warning, Song Xiaowei experienced her first real taste of the professional world.
