Super Rich by Doing as You Please

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: I Actually Think Your Clothes Are Just Right

Meanwhile, Ning Qian didn’t go to work today.

She took the day off and hired a moving company to help her move.

Her roommates helped her pack, sad to see her go.

After all, they had grown attached after living together for two years.

At the same time, they were also envious that she’d soon have her own house, free of charge.

But there was some good news, too.

Ning Qian told them that after she finished moving today, she would treat everyone to a seafood dinner at Shangfang Hot Pot.

When Wang Shengmei and the others who lived across from them heard about this at the store, it left a bad taste in their mouths.

’We were all living similar lives, so how did she suddenly manage to climb the social ladder like that?’

’Before, I could at least compete with her for the top sales spot. Winning meant I could hold it over her!’

’Now, she doesn’t even bother competing with me. She’s clearly too good for the ten-thousand-yuan bonus.’

’I heard that Mr. Xu casually gave her a 200,000-yuan VIP card.’

’And look at the guy I’m with. I have to talk his ear off at night just to get him to buy me a 20,000-yuan bag.’

The comparison was infuriating.

She found herself disliking Ning Qian more and more. If she ever got the chance, she would definitely make her life difficult.

Jealousy often warps a person beyond recognition.

Two or three of Ning Qian’s colleagues came along to her new home to help her put things away.

They looked around the new home and remarked, ”This place is huge. It’s a real waste for just you to live here alone.”

”It’s not so bad.”

Ning Qian smiled and said, ”I’m guessing this is probably his smallest property.”

”That’s true. A man of his status should be living in a villa or a luxury high-rise apartment.”

”Ooh, what’s in this exquisite box?”

While tidying up, one of her colleagues said this and curiously opened the box.

And just like that, several glittering gold bars of various sizes appeared before their eyes.

”!!!” The two of them froze, muttering, ”Is this... gold?”

”What are you doing!”

Seeing this, Ning Qian hurried over, snapped the box shut, and picked it up. She said, a bit angrily, ”Don’t mess with his things.”

”Sorry, sorry! We didn’t know there was gold inside.”

”That’s enough.”

Ning Qian said, annoyed, ”You can touch my things, but don’t mess with anything else in this house. Otherwise, I’ll get really angry.”

”Okay, we understand.” The other two exchanged a look.

’They really hadn’t expected to find gold just by opening a random box.’

’Who leaves something so valuable just lying around? It’s so unsafe.’

’It should be in a safe, at the very least.’

’Is this what a rich person’s home is like? Just leaving gold lying around, without any fear of it getting stolen.’

Ning Qian stepped aside to check the box. She noticed a small, 100-gram gold bar was missing.

’Of course her friends couldn’t have taken it. Xu Yun must have taken it with him when he left this morning.’

’I wonder who he’s giving it to.’

’But no matter who he gave it to, she had no right to interfere.’

’After working as a sales associate for so many years, she knew one thing for certain: men don’t really like smart women!’

’She didn’t have any other advantages over other women. Her only strategy was to play the part of an obedient woman who never fought or vied for anything!’

Ning Qian suddenly remembered the photos she’d seen on Xu Yun’s phone last night, and a sense of crisis washed over her.

She secretly made up her mind.

’After dinner tonight, I have to go buy some nice lingerie or pajamas.’

’I can’t lose right at the starting line.’

’She didn’t dare to compete openly, but a little secret rivalry should be fine, right?’

....

Meanwhile, Xu Yun had brought Song Xiaowei to Guotai Mall.

Staff were already starting to set up the venue.

Jiang Peiyao was off to one side, supervising and directing the crew. When she spotted Xu Yun, she hurried over to greet him.

”Xu Yun, you’re here.”

Then she looked at the woman beside him and asked with a smile, ”And who is this lovely lady?”

”She’s the host I found for you.”

Xu Yun replied, ”I brought her here today to get familiar with the venue. I also wanted you to meet her. What do you think? Satisfied?”

”She’s great. She has a wonderful presence.”

Jiang Peiyao smiled. ”She’ll look stunning in our store’s jewelry.”

”Hello, I’m Song Xiaowei. I’ll be the host for your event.”

”Hello, Miss Song.”

Jiang Peiyao called someone over. ”Please coordinate with Miss Song about the jewelry and accessories she’ll be wearing for the event.”

”Of course, Manager Jiang.”

After making the arrangements, Jiang Peiyao turned back to Xu Yun. ”Why don’t you come and sit in my office for a bit?”

”Sure.”

Song Xiaowei watched as the two of them headed toward the office inside the store.

In the office, Jiang Peiyao poured Xu Yun a glass of water. ”My office is a bit small. I hope you don’t mind,” she said, slightly embarrassed.

”It’s great.”

Xu Yun joked self-deprecatingly, ”At my company, my desk space is only half a meter wide.”

”Are you hot?”

Jiang Peiyao said, ”I can turn the AC down a bit if you are.”

”I’m fine, but you seem to be breaking a sweat, Manager Jiang.”

”It has been a bit busy today,” Jiang Peiyao said, casually taking off her work jacket and revealing the blouse she wore underneath.

It was a white, short-sleeved blouse, a bit too small. The buttons on her chest were strained, looking like they might pop open at any moment.

Jiang Peiyao felt Xu Yun’s gaze on her chest but felt no discomfort. Instead, she smiled and said, ”This uniform is a bit small for me. They haven’t sent a replacement in the right size, so it’s a little tight.”

”I think it fits you just right.”

Xu Yun joked, then averted his eyes. He took a small, 100-gram gold bar from his pocket and placed it in front of her.

Jiang Peiyao froze for a moment, then asked, confused, ”Xu Yun, what’s this for?”

”It’s nothing special.”

Xu Yun explained with a smile, ”This is to thank you for helping me negotiate the price when I bought the house. You saved me a lot of money.”

”No, no, there’s no need. We’re friends.”

Jiang Peiyao hadn’t expected him to offer such a valuable gift and quickly refused. ”I really didn’t do much to help.”

”Manager Jiang, I don’t like being indebted to people.”

Xu Yun said, ”If you don’t accept it, you’ll be treating me like a stranger, not like a friend.”

”Well...”

Jiang Peiyao hesitated, then replied, ”Alright, then. Thank you for the gift.”

grams, worth around 60,000.

For someone like her, who was short on cash, this was a much-needed windfall that would relieve a great deal of her financial pressure.

”Oh, right. I need to ask you for another favor, Manager Jiang.”

”What is it?”

”That set of collector’s edition gold bars I bought from you last time... I’ve been giving them away as gifts, and there aren’t many left.”

Xu Yun said with a smile, ”So, I was thinking of buying another set. Could you please prepare one for me?”

’Giving them away? All of them?’

’That was gold! It’s only been a few days, and he’s already given most of them away.’

Jiang Peiyao looked down at the gold bar in her hand.

’Does he just hand them out like this, the way he just gave this to me?’

’How incredibly extravagant.’

’She knew Xu Yun’s family was rich, but this was a whole other level of spending.’

”Xu Yun, I’d actually advise against buying them from our store.”

This time was different from last time.

Last time, she had purely been after the sales commission. But now, their relationship had changed, and she found herself looking out for his interests.

Jiang Peiyao hesitated for a moment, then said, ”If you’re really buying them as a birthday gift for your aunt, I’d suggest you go directly to a bank and buy their investment-grade gold bars. For one, they’re cheaper, and for another, they’re more secure.”

”Are you saying there’s something off about the gold from your store?”

”I don’t know. It’s not my area of expertise.”

Jiang Peiyao shook her head. ”But I think, for the older generation, a bank’s reputation is always more trustworthy.”

Xu Yun thought about it. She had a point, so he dropped the idea.

Just as they were chatting, a clerk knocked and entered the office. She said nervously, ”Manager Jiang, there’s trouble outside.”
