Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Jiang Peiyao’s Little Thoughts

After teasing Huang Mengyao and Wang Qing, Xu Yun drove his sports car to his appointed meeting place with Jiang Peiyao.

The spot was a trendy little café near Guotai Mall.

A cup of coffee sat on the table in front of Jiang Peiyao. She was currently resting her chin on one hand, her head turned to watch him.

Bathed in sunlight, Xu Yun found himself, for the first time, getting a good look at Jiang Peiyao outside of her work attire.

She wore a flax-colored, short-sleeved, midi dress. Her long, slightly wavy hair was tucked behind her ears, cascading down. Paired with her delicate features, she had a reserved gentleness, like still water, exuding the air of a kind and virtuous wife.

’Although her aura isn’t quite on the same level as Su Mu’s, in terms of looks alone, she’s definitely a beauty.’

”Have you been waiting long?”

After a brief once-over, Xu Yun smiled and walked over, taking the seat across from her.

”No.”

Jiang Peiyao said with a smile, ”You got here so fast.”

”When Manager Jiang asks to meet, I wouldn’t dare be slow.”

Xu Yun joked, ”I was flying all the way here. I barely managed to avoid running red lights.”

”Haha... Well, it’s better to be careful. Safety first.”

She laughed at his teasing, then asked, ”What kind of coffee do you like? I wasn’t sure of your preference, so I ordered a latte for you ahead of time. If you don’t like it, you can get something else.”

”I’m not picky, anything is fine.”

Jiang Peiyao said, ”I’m really sorry to trouble you again today.”

”Don’t worry about it, it’s part of my job.”

Xu Yun smiled and asked, ”So, what’s the issue this time?”

”It’s about the set design.”

Jiang Peiyao pretended to take the tablet from her bag and pulled up the design renderings.

She said, ”Look here. Do you think it would be better if we changed this to some brighter decorations? And here, and here, I think...”

Feeling it was awkward to look at the screen from across the table, Xu Yun simply got up and sat down next to Jiang Peiyao to discuss it.

”But I think using a bright color here...”

They sat side by side, very close. As they talked, their shoulders and arms would occasionally brush against each other.

Jiang Peiyao secretly watched the man beside her as a strange, unexplainable feeling began to blossom in her heart.

’They always say a man is most handsome when he’s focused on his work.’

’Right now, in her eyes, Xu Yun was so handsome, so charismatic.’

’She loved this atmosphere, this feeling.’

’If he were her husband, she’d be willing to do anything for him.’

’She’d even quit her job to be a full-time housewife and raise their children.’

”Do you have a question?”

Noticing his client was staring at him in a daze, Xu Yun smiled and said, ”If you have a question, just ask. The event is in a few days. Let’s try to get everything finalized this time around.”

”No.”

Jiang Peiyao snapped back to reality and said with an embarrassed smile, ”No, I think you’ve got a point. I’ll go with your suggestions.”

”...” Xu Yun was speechless.

Jiang Peiyao put away her tablet and said, ”It’s getting late, why don’t we go get some lunch?”

”Sure.”

While they were eating, Xu Yun also brought up the matter of the female emcee.

He offered to send Jiang Peiyao a photo of the candidate first, but she said there was no need; she trusted his judgment.

The meal itself was nothing fancy—just a simple, roadside restaurant.

Jiang Peiyao asked with a smile, ”Xu Yun, a place like this, you probably don’t eat here often, do you?”

”Not really, I used to eat at roadside stalls a lot.”

In Jiang Peiyao’s eyes, Xu Yun didn’t act like a rich heir at all; he was very down-to-earth.

His movements were completely natural. He showed no disdain for the surroundings, simply finding a stool, sitting down, and digging in.

”You know, the food at this place you brought me to is actually pretty good.”

Xu Yun took a bite and praised, ”When I get the chance, I’ll bring my friends here to try it.”

”I just stumbled upon it myself.”

Jiang Peiyao smiled. ”If you like it, I can treat you here again.”

”Oh, I couldn’t let you do that.”

”It’s fine. I can afford it.”

Jiang Peiyao asked, ”By the way, after you finish eating, are you going straight back to the company?”

”No, I have something else to do.”

Xu Yun teased, ”What, do you have other plans?”

”No, just asking,” said Jiang Peiyao.

As the two were about to finish eating, Xu Yun received a call from a real estate company.

”Hello, Mr. Xu.”

Over the phone, Wan Kui asked cheerfully, ”I was wondering if you’re free now? I can come pick you up to look at some properties.”

”Sure.”

Xu Yun replied, ”But you don’t need to pick me up, I have my own car. We can just meet at the community entrance in a bit.”

”Alright, Mr. Xu. I’ll let you get back to it then.”

After hanging up, Xu Yun smiled. ”Manager Jiang, thanks for lunch. I have something else to take care of, so I’ll be on my way.”

He hadn’t made any effort to be private, so Jiang Peiyao had overheard the gist of his conversation.

Seeing Xu Yun was about to leave, Jiang Peiyao hesitated for two seconds, then asked, ”Xu Yun, from your call just now, are you going to buy a house?”

”Yeah.”

Xu Yun didn’t try to hide it, nodding with a smile. ”My current place is a little small, so I’m looking to buy a new one. I’m meeting an agent in a little while to look at some properties.”

”Buying a house is a big deal. You should bring a few people with you to take a proper look.”

Jiang Peiyao added, ”Especially these days, developers can be crooked. It’s easy to get ripped off if you’re not careful.”

”Sounds like Manager Jiang knows a lot about this?”

”I had a classmate who used to be a real estate agent, so I know a little bit.”

Jiang Peiyao smiled and asked, ”I don’t have anything else going on this afternoon anyway. How about I tag along and help you take a look, be a second pair of eyes?”

”Sure. Thanks, I’d appreciate that.”

’Although Xu Yun wasn’t really concerned about it, it would be rude to refuse such a kind and proactive offer.’

’Besides, having a beautiful woman with him when he went out was always good for his image.’

’Take someone like Xiaowang, for instance. He never goes out without an internet celebrity on his arm—in fact, he usually has several.’

So, after finishing their meal, the two drove to Jinyuan.

This was the first time in her life that Jiang Peiyao had ridden in a sports car.

Sitting in the passenger seat of the Porsche 911, she felt a sense of satisfaction that was hard to put into words.

’Every woman has a vain side; it’s just a matter of whether she can keep it in check.’

’She never thought she’d have the chance in her life to be the one in a passenger seat like this, watching other women on the street look her way with envy.’

’This was something her past suitors could never have given her.’

’In truth, she wasn’t a materialistic woman.’

’She didn’t need these kinds of luxurious things in her life.’

’As long as a couple was happy and worked hard together to build a good life, that was all that mattered.’

’But certain things in life forced her to consider a partner’s financial situation.’

’She wasn’t a gold digger, but the reality was that many things could only be achieved with money.’

’And then there was Xu Yun, sitting right beside her. He perfectly met all of her criteria.’

’Should I give it a shot?’

’Whether it works out or not, at least I’ll know I tried.’

Just as Jiang Peiyao’s mind was racing, lost in a daydream, they arrived at the entrance to the Jinyuan community.

Xu Yun parked the car by the side of the road and led Jiang Peiyao to the community entrance to meet with the agent from the real estate company.

Wan Kui had already spotted the flashy red Porsche 911 approaching, and he saw Xu Yun get out of the car.

He hadn’t expected his client to be so young.

”Mr. Xu, hello.”

The moment they met, Wan Kui eagerly came forward to greet him. ”I’m Wan Kui, the sales manager from the real estate company. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
