Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Legal Counsel

Since he hadn’t bought anything for the new house, Xu Yun obviously wouldn’t be sleeping there tonight.

So after showing the two of them his new house, he left to go sleep at his old, smaller place.

Before leaving, he messaged Li Jinshu the house code and transferred her 20,000 yuan to help buy some daily necessities.

Oh, and bedding.

After all, their private relationship was different now.

Su Mu knew nothing about this; it was all happening in secret.

And Li Jinshu wasn’t foolish enough to tell Su Mu, either. Why would Xu Yun give her the house code instead of Su Mu, after all?

While they were looking at the house, Xu Yun also received a notification on his phone about the bill from Shangfang Hot Pot.

Ning Qian had spent a total of around 15,000 yuan, which even included the private room fee.

Xu Yun knew the prices there, so he just smiled.

’This woman really is frugal for my sake.’

Taking a taxi home, Xu Yun had expected Ning Qian would stay out a while longer with her friends.

But it turned out she was already back.

She had already showered and was lying on the sofa in her pajamas, casually watching TV.

When she heard the door open and saw it was Xu Yun, Ning Qian happily scrambled up.

Forgetting about shoes, she ran over barefoot and stopped in front of him, asking cheerfully, ”What are you doing here?”

”This is my house. Can’t I come here?”

”Of course you can. You can come every day.”

Ning Qian asked with concern, ”Have you eaten? Should I go make you something?”

”No need, I ate out.”

Xu Yun wrapped an arm around her, walked her to the sofa, and sat down. ”You went to dinner with your friends today?” he asked.

”Mhm.”

Ning Qian nodded. ”They helped me move all afternoon, so I treated them to dinner tonight.

There were eight of us, and we spent a total of fifteen thousand.”

”Only fifteen thousand for eight people?”

Xu Yun pinched her nose and chuckled. ”You’re too cheap. Why didn’t you treat them to more?”

”It was plenty.”

Ning Qian replied with a smile, ”It’s not like your money grows on trees. I should save it where I can.”

”Don’t worry about it. My money might as well.”

”Oh.”

Of course, Ning Qian didn’t believe him; she just thought Xu Yun was being generous.

She snuggled into Xu Yun’s embrace and asked, ”Do you want to take a shower now? I’ll go run the water for you.”

”Mhm.”

A short while later, the water was ready.

Xu Yun wanted to pull Ning Qian in to shower with him, but she told him to go ahead by himself, saying she needed to prepare something.

She said she had a surprise for him after he got out of the shower.

Xu Yun showered quickly on his own. He washed his hair, rinsed off, and came out wrapped in a bathrobe.

But he didn’t see Ning Qian in the living room.

Seeing the master bedroom door half-open, Xu Yun smiled and walked toward it. The moment he entered the room, he was stunned by Ning Qian’s outfit.

She was kneeling on the bed, dressed in a sexy black-and-white maid costume, with nothing on underneath.

The moment she saw Xu Yun, she put on a wronged expression and said, ”Master, your servant knows she was wrong. Please don’t punish me, okay?”

Xu Yun was speechless.

...

「The next morning.」

After Xu Yun and Ning Qian had breakfast at home, they called a private car and left together.

He first dropped Ning Qian off at the mall, then prepared to head to the Guotai Commerce Center.

Suddenly, he received a call from the police station. They said someone had filed a report accusing him of intentionally damaging their property yesterday. As per regulations, he was required to come to the station to cooperate with the investigation and give a statement.

As soon as Xu Yun heard this, he knew it was probably about that ex-husband.

He said okay, then immediately called his law firm and briefly explained what had happened.

’Since I’m paying their retainer, I might as well use it.’

After listening to the brief summary, Luo Xudong said it was nothing to worry about and that he would arrange for someone to handle it shortly.

Xu Yun arrived at the police station entrance. After waiting just a few moments, a woman in a formal business suit walked up.

”Mr. Xu, hello. I’m Lawyer Luo’s assistant. My name is Liu Limin.”

Liu Limin said with a smile, ”When we go inside, don’t say a word. Let me handle everything.”

”Okay, I’ll leave it to you then.”

And just like that, Xu Yun walked into the local police station with Liu Limin and saw yesterday’s ex-husband, Zhao Xianhong.

”Officer, that’s him! He’s the one who intentionally hit my car yesterday!” Zhao Xianhong immediately pointed at Xu Yun upon seeing him.

The police officer glanced at Xu Yun and said, ”You’re Xu Yun, right? Can you tell me what happened yesterday?”

”Hello, Officer.”

At that moment, Liu Limin stepped forward. ”I am Mr. Xu’s legal counsel,” she said. ”Here is my bar license. My name is Liu Limin. If you have any questions, I can answer them for him.”

Even an assistant at a top-tier law firm was a legitimate, licensed lawyer.

At an ordinary firm, she could probably be a lead attorney.

The officer: ”???”

Zhao Xianhong: ”???”

’I call you in to take a statement, and you bring a lawyer?’

”Lawyer Liu, we just received a report and are conducting a routine interview to get a statement. The nature of the incident hasn’t been determined yet.” The officer’s tone became more polite when addressing the lawyer.

Especially since she was a lawyer from a top-tier firm.

’Can’t afford to offend her. Absolutely can’t afford to offend her!’

”Regarding yesterday’s matter, Mr. Xu has already explained the details to me before coming here.”

Liu Limin said, ”First, I’d like to state that this whole affair is based on Mr. Zhao’s subjective opinion, not objective fact.

Mr. Xu simply made an error in judgment due to nervousness, resulting in a perfectly normal traffic accident.

Secondly, immediately after the accident occurred, Mr. Xu called his insurance company, proactively reported it to the traffic police, and was willing to cover all of the other party’s losses.”

Liu Limin’s thinking and logic were so clear that the officer couldn’t help but nod along.

To be honest, they also thought the case was straightforward and had already checked with the insurance company. But since the accuser was so insistent, they had no choice but to follow up.

”Officer, don’t believe her!”

Zhao Xianhong said angrily, ”I’m telling you, he hit my car on purpose! The parking lot was so wide, so why did he just happen to hit me?”

”Mr. Zhao.”

Liu Limin turned to him and asked, ”You claim Mr. Xu hit your car intentionally. Let me ask you a few questions.”

”Go ahead.”

”Did you know each other before the collision?”

”No.”

”Then did you have any conflict before the collision? Had you even spoken to each other?”

”No.”

”You see, Officer.”

Liu Limin spread her hands. ”Before the incident, these two men didn’t know each other, had no conflict, and had never even spoken.

My client could not have possibly hit his car on purpose, because there was absolutely no motive.

Following normal logic, who would be foolish enough to take a new car worth over 1.6 million and crash it into another new car that’s worth less?

Besides, according to the damage assessment report, Mr. Xu’s losses are even greater than Mr. Zhao’s.”

”What if... he’s just crazy?” Zhao Xianhong retorted.

Liu Limin asked again, ”Fine. Even if what you say is true, where’s the proof? Everything requires evidence.

You claim Mr. Xu hit your car intentionally. Do you have any evidence to back that up? Your word alone isn’t enough; the law is based on evidence.”

”That’s right.”

The officer inquired, ”Do you have any evidence to prove he hit your car on purpose? If so, you can show it to me.”

Zhao Xianhong: ”...”
