Super Rich by Doing as You Please

Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Young and Successful, Driving a Bentley

After leaving the bank, Xu Yun took Song Xiaowei to their next destination.

This time, they didn’t bother calling a private car service; they spotted a taxi right at the entrance.

Whatever was available, they’d take. Convenience was all that mattered.

Xu Yun’s mindset had shifted. When he first got rich, he had a bit of a nouveau riche mentality, but that had started to change.

It wasn’t that he had to compulsively take private cars every time he went out and refuse to ride in a taxi.

’Life shouldn’t be like that.’

These changes weren’t deliberate, but had happened naturally.

It was like when you’re broke and suddenly buy an expensive new phone. For the first few months, you treat it like a precious treasure, terrified of getting it bumped, scratched, or scuffed.

When you go out, you make a point of holding it in your hand, as if your pockets and bag just can’t contain it.

In reality, your subconscious just wants other people to see your phone.

But once you’re truly rich and accustomed to it, you find that you stop caring. Using a more expensive phone than everyone else doesn’t make you feel superior.

In fact, it just seems tacky.

After they got in the car and Xu Yun told the driver to take them to the nearest Bentley dealership, the driver became quite talkative.

He chatted with Xu Yun about cars the entire way.

As an experienced driver, he eagerly shared all sorts of tips and minor details Xu Yun should look out for when buying a car.

He talked about the models he personally liked and recommended a few to Xu Yun as well.

”If you want a coupe, get the Continental GT. If you want a sedan, get the Flying Spur.”

Xu Yun thanked him, but he knew he couldn’t get a real sense of the cars just by listening. He needed to see them in person at the dealership to know which one he truly liked.

The traffic in Jiangcheng was terrible. Even outside of the morning and evening rush hours, the city center was just as congested.

After half an hour of friendly banter, they finally arrived at their destination: No. 1 Jiufeng Street, Jiangxia District.

The fare was 55 yuan, but Xu Yun generously paid 100, telling the driver to use the extra to buy a nice pack of smokes as thanks for the car-buying tips.

The driver was overjoyed. ”You’re a class act, brother,” he said. ”No wonder you’re rich.”

Xu Yun found that quite gratifying.

After getting out of the taxi, the two headed straight for the dealership. It was the same old story, the same familiar feeling.

A saleswoman in a blue blazer and a tight-fitting skirt that showed off her long, bare legs approached them. ”Good morning, sir and madam,” she said enthusiastically. ”My name is Xiaoliu, and I’m a Bentley sales consultant. How may I help you today?”

”I’d like to buy a car.”

Xu Yun answered, ”Show me what you have.”

”Of course, sir. Please, follow me.”

After leading them into the showroom, Liu Wen asked with a smile, ”Sir, may I have your last name?”

”Xu Yun.”

”Very good, Mr. Xu.”

Liu Wen could clearly tell who was in charge between the man and the woman, so she directed her question to him. ”Have you had a chance to look into our Bentley models before?”

”No.”

”In that case, what are your main needs for the car?” Liu Wen asked. ”Different needs call for different models.”

”I don’t have any strict requirements. As long as it looks good and is comfortable, I’m open to it.”

”Understood, Mr. Xu.”

Xu Yun’s answer made the saleswoman, Liu Wen, a little nervous. Vague customers like him were the hardest to handle.

The wealthy have plenty of options, and Bentley didn’t hold a significant advantage over other luxury brands.

If you said the slightest thing wrong or did anything to displease them during the sales process, they could just walk out and head to the Porsche or Mercedes dealership next door.

Based on Xu Yun’s request, Liu Wen first led them to a white display model.

She began her practiced introduction. ”Mr. Xu, this is one of our most classic models, the Bentley Flying Spur. The price is between three and four million. It’s an ultra-luxury four-door sedan, renowned for its powerful performance, spacious interior, and elegant design...

It combines the agile handling of a sports sedan with the refined elegance of a modern, ultra-luxurious car.

Exclusive badging is visible throughout the interior and exterior, including door sills with the Azure insignia and seats with Azure embroidery.

The overall interior design is inspired by the Bentley ’Flying B’ emblem. Its smooth lines flow across the dashboard and into the front doors, creating an exquisite and opulent look.

This new Flying Spur also introduces a retractable ’Flying B’ hood ornament and is the first Bentley model equipped with an all-wheel steering system.”

After finishing her spiel in one breath, Liu Wen opened the car door. ”Mr. Xu,” she asked invitingly, ”would you and your friend like to sit inside and get a feel for it?”

Song Xiaowei, who had been standing to the side, found her eyes glued to the car the moment she saw it.

She desperately tried to tell herself she wasn’t a gold digger, but seeing the car’s luxurious interior still made her heart flutter uncontrollably.

But the price tag, a staggering three to four million, made her give up any hope completely.

Xu Yun, too, felt a stir of excitement the moment he saw the car.

That was it—the same car that had been parked next to him the other day. The model was identical, only the color was different.

Especially when he sat inside and saw the big ”B” at the center of the gear shifter, he felt an irresistible urge to reach out and grip it tightly.

This felt so much better than the Porsche.

No wonder they say a young man of accomplishment drives a Bentley. With this, he’d never feel insecure again.

With this big ”B” in hand, it would be hard to feel insecure about anything.

’If I drive this car home for Mom’s birthday, it would definitely give me a lot of face. Even people who know nothing about cars can tell it’s high-class at a single glance.’

But Xu Yun didn’t let on. He turned to the saleswoman and asked, feigning calmness, ”Do you have any other models?”

’I have to see them all before I can know which one is the best, and which one I like the most.’

”We do. We also have an SUV.”

Liu Wen led the two to a smaller, adjacent showroom. ”This is our Bentley Bentayga,” she explained, ”priced between three and five million...”

Xu Yun didn’t really listen to the saleswoman’s pitch for the SUV. It looked good, sure, but it wasn’t his cup of tea.

As before, he got in to get a feel for it.

’A car like this is never going to be uncomfortable to sit in. Not at this price point, anyway.’

Finally, they looked at the Continental GT.

To be honest, after seeing this car, the previous two models just couldn’t compare.

It truly lived up to its reputation as Bentley’s most beautiful model.

A two-door, four-seat fastback, it exuded youth and sportiness. In a word: stunning.

Liu Wen had been strategic in saving this one for last.

She knew exactly how irresistible this car was to young people.

And when contrasted with the previous two cars, its visual impact was even more striking.

If Song Xiaowei had been smitten by the Flying Spur, then seeing this car made her fall head over heels in love.

After seeing everything, Xu Yun found he actually preferred the Continental GT.

Compared to it, the Flying Spur felt more business-like, better suited for being chauffeured around.

’No wonder that taxi driver kept recommending the Continental GT,’ he thought. ’He probably pegged me as a young guy.’

But because the Continental GT was a coupe, he immediately ruled it out.

It was gorgeous, but if he bought it, it would be just as impractical as his old Porsche coupe.

After her presentation, Liu Wen asked, ”So, Mr. Xu, which of our models do you prefer?

If you can’t decide, we have vehicles available for a test drive. We could take each one for a spin so you can experience their comfort and performance firsthand.”

”That won’t be necessary.”

Xu Yun replied, ”I’ve made up my mind.”

Liu Wen assumed he was going to pick the Continental GT, but to her surprise, Xu Yun said, ”I’ll take that Flying Spur.”

”...”

Liu Wen was stunned for a second. It was unexpected, but hearing that he had decided to buy *something* still made her heart leap with excitement.

It didn’t matter which one he bought, as long as he bought one.

She smiled. ”Of course, Mr. Xu. In addition to the standard features, you’ll need to select the other options for the car based on your personal preferences.

This includes the exterior and interior colors, as well as any other options. You’ll need to go through and choose everything.

The final price will vary, as everyone chooses different options.”

With that, Liu Wen pulled out a tablet, opened the configuration software, and said, ”Look, Mr. Xu, you can customize your car here. The system will then generate an image of your selections, and if you’re satisfied, we can finalize it.”

Looking at all the different options gave Xu Yun a headache.

He was notoriously indecisive to begin with.

”No, thanks.”

Xu Yun refused. ”I want the exact one you just showed me.”

”Alright, Mr. Xu. I understand.”

Liu Wen said happily, ”I’ll go draw up the purchase paperwork for you right now. If you sign and pay today, you can pick up the car in half a month.”

”Half a month?”

Xu Yun frowned. ”I want to drive it off the lot today. I need it urgently.”

”Er...”

Liu Wen explained, ”Mr. Xu, custom-configured cars like this aren’t kept in stock. They take some time to be delivered.”

”What about the one just now?”

”Mr. Xu, that’s our showroom model. It’s not for sale.”

”Then forget it.”

Hearing this, Xu Yun stood up. ”The only reason I came to buy a car today is because I need one urgently. If that’s not possible, I’ll go to another dealership.”

”Wait!”

The moment Liu Wen heard he wasn’t buying and was about to leave, she lost her composure.

She said, looking troubled, ”Mr. Xu, how about this? Please, have a seat and some tea. Let me go ask my manager, and I’ll get back to you. I don’t have the authority to make this decision.”

”Alright, go ahead. I’ll wait to hear from you.”
