This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The next day, Du Heng informed Li Jianwei of the situation, packed his things, and rushed to the Capital for the second time. He had come last time for studying, but he hadn’t learned much. This time, his purpose wasn’t clear; he was just taking things one step at a time.

However, as soon as he arrived in the Capital, Du Heng was taken away by Li Qin’s people. Then, in the lobby of a hotel, he met Liao Quansheng, who had come to ’discuss business,’ and an exasperated and angry Li Qin.

Seeing Liao Quansheng now, and then the people around Li Qin, Du Heng more or less understood. Li Qin is doing me a favor here; otherwise, Liao Quansheng alone wouldn’t have the chance to sit face-to-face with her.

Seeing Du Heng appear, Li Qin wasn’t excited and happy as if meeting an old friend, but rather seemed relieved. ”Du Heng,” she said, ”I beg you, do one thing: get your friend out of here immediately, or I’m really calling the police.”

Liao Quansheng’s eyes lit up when he saw Du Heng. ”Du, you’re here—”

Du Heng dropped his suitcase and immediately pulled Liao Quansheng aside. ”Liao, I’ll be blunt. I didn’t come to help you this time. Li Qin made it very clear to me on the phone: she won’t agree to your request, no matter how much money you offer.”

But Liao Quansheng didn’t want to give up. ”Brother, you two are friends, just try to figure something out! If she agrees, our two medicines could become an overnight sensation, saving us a lot of detours.”

Du Heng sighed. ”Liao, it’s precisely because she and I are friends that she hasn’t driven you away or called the police. Otherwise, do you think you could even get near her? Besides, I don’t think I carry that much weight with her. She probably needs my help with something, which is why she’s being so polite to you.”

Du Heng tried his best to persuade Liao Quansheng, whom he thought was going mad. At the same time, he was even more convinced that he could never succeed in business. He really couldn’t do it, couldn’t be as ’shameless’ as Liao Quansheng.

Seeing that Liao Quansheng still didn’t want to give up, Du Heng continued, ”Brother, once your medicine is ready, I’ll find a way to test it in a few hospitals in Jinzhou. If the results are good, isn’t that much better than secretly getting some celebrity endorsement?”

When Liao Quansheng saw Du Heng’s firm attitude and received his promise, his frantic mood finally calmed somewhat.

”Brother, I’m serious, and I’m begging you, please go back quickly. Your sister just had her baby; she really needs her family with her now.” Du Heng pressed on, genuinely hoping Liao Quansheng would stop this. For some reason, seeing Liao Quansheng’s shameless persistence made Du Heng himself feel a bit embarrassed.

Eventually, Liao Quansheng heeded the advice and left. Li Qin finally smiled and warmly received Du Heng, who had come from afar. However, her enthusiasm was a bit overwhelming for Du Heng.

”Li... Qinqin, if there’s something you need, just say it. If not, well, you’ve hosted me for two days now, and I feel a bit embarrassed. Besides, I have some seniors in the Capital I need to visit. How about we make an appointment after I’m done with my business?”

The two days of warm hospitality, filled with delicious food and enjoyable activities, more than made up for what Du Heng hadn’t experienced or enjoyed during his last trip to the Capital.

Seeing that Du Heng was genuinely planning to leave, Li Qin stopped beating around the bush. ”Actually, I do have a favor to ask of you,” she said directly.

Du Heng wore an expression that said, ’I knew it.’ ”No problem,” he replied. ”Just tell me. If I can help, I definitely will.”

”I have a friend, she’s 29 years old. During the New Year, she was diagnosed with stage Ⅰ cervical cancer. I was hoping you could take a look at her.”

”How old did you say your friend is?”

”29.”

”Has she had any children?”

”No.” Li Qin sighed softly. ”The doctor said the tumor’s location isn’t good. Both radiotherapy and surgery could potentially lead to infertility. I know you came to the Capital last time to treat cancer, and I’m aware of Liu Amei’s situation with ovarian cancer—how you managed to preserve her fertility. That’s why I wanted to ask for your help.”

”Is she married?”

”Not yet.”

Cervical cancer is the most common malignant tumor in gynecology, caused by numerous factors including human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, sexual activity, number of childbirths, genetics, age, and tobacco use.

A 29-year-old with cervical cancer who’s never had children... This entertainment circle is truly chaotic and intense, Du Heng thought with a silent sigh.

”Can I see the patient first? Let’s discuss the specifics after I’ve done an examination.”

”Hmm... my friend and I are in the same profession. She hopes you’ll keep this confidential; she said she’ll pay extra.”

Du Heng glanced sharply at Li Qin. ”Sorry, I just remembered—I don’t have a medical license in the Capital. My apologies.”

After saying this, Du Heng fell silent and began to pack his things.

I considered you a friend and agreed to help you, but you don’t even trust me. This made Du Heng a bit unhappy.

Li Qin realized she had misspoken. But her friend was also involved, and she couldn’t just not say anything, leaving her at a loss for a moment.

After packing his things, Du Heng thanked Li Qin, took his luggage, and went straight to find his niece, Du Xuejing.

He had been in the Capital for two days but still hadn’t seen his niece, which made Du Heng feel slightly embarrassed. So, upon arriving, he treated his niece and her dormitory roommates to a lavish meal, as usual. He had intended to invite Zhu Minyan as well, but she declined.

Later, Du Heng sought out Lan Changhua and had a gathering with everyone.

Although Lan Changhua was still very enthusiastic about inviting Du Heng during the meal, Cao Binghe, with whom he previously had a decent relationship, now intentionally or unintentionally showed resistance.

However, Du Heng didn’t care whether Cao Binghe was resistant or not, as Cao Binghe’s feelings or intentions couldn’t change anything. As long as Lan Changhua and the Director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department welcomed him and were willing to accept him, then if he himself was willing, nothing else would be an issue.

Just as Du Heng was about to delve into a deeper discussion with everyone to exchange specific ideas, he suddenly received a phone call from Wu Shengnan’s father.

This call was completely unexpected.

”Xiao Du, how have you been enjoying the Capital these past few days?”

”It’s been alright. I saw my niece and had a meal with some seniors in the profession. What’s up, Uncle? Is something wrong?”

”Yes, something’s come up. Your job has been arranged. Hurry back and get to work.”

Du Heng listened, somewhat surprised. ”Uncle, where has my job been arranged?”

”Dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital.”

”The Municipal Health Hospital?” Du Heng was stunned. ”Uncle, isn’t this leap a bit too big?”

”Big? What’s so big about it? The dean of a level 2 hospital is only Section Chief rank. Alright, I have things to do here. As soon as you’re done there, hurry back.”

Wu Shengnan’s father hung up the phone feeling quite helpless. He had already intervened; it would be too embarrassing if his son-in-law ended up back at the Health Clinic after all this. He then glared at Wu Shengnan beside him. ”Happy now? Look at you, so pathetic with worry. Were you really afraid he’d run off and not come back?”

Wu Shengnan hugged her father’s arm and swayed it. ”What’s there for me to be dissatisfied about? This is what he deserves, isn’t it? They finished the investigation but didn’t give a conclusion, and then they took advantage of the situation to fill his position. How could they not compensate him?”

Nearby, Sir Wu Zhong looked a bit awkward. He had meant well, but he’d ended up upsetting his granddaughter. It really wasn’t worth the trouble. Leaning on his cane, he quickly retreated into the bedroom.

Meanwhile, Du Heng was truly bewildered. In the blink of an eye, he had gone from being district-affiliated to city-affiliated, becoming the Dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital.

If Wu Shengnan and her father hadn’t been involved in this, he wouldn’t believe it even if he were beaten to death.

But what now? Should he go back?

After a long period of melancholy, Du Heng finally sighed. Alright, I’ll go back. It’s hard to refuse a kind gesture from a beautiful woman, and I can’t just disregard Wu Shengnan’s intentions.

But only he himself knew that he simply wanted to be closer to the Health Clinic.
