This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Having experienced Yang Zhengnong’s shamelessness, Du Heng now had a deeper understanding of it.

Yang Zhengnong could actually remain calm and undisturbed in this situation. Therefore, it wasn’t hard to understand why his completely ignorant daughter-in-law was standing in this clinic, prescribing medicine and administering Acupuncture to others.

”There’s no need. We can talk right here,” Du Heng coldly refused Yang Zhengnong’s proposal.

Yang Zhengnong didn’t seem surprised by Du Heng’s refusal. After Du Heng finished speaking, he directly addressed the few patients present and his daughters-in-law, ”Alright, there’s nothing for you all here. Everyone, go home.”

As he spoke, he actually shoved the three old ladies at the door, pushing them outside.

Wu Buwei was right beside the old ladies. Seeing them stumble after being pushed, he roared, ”What do you think you’re doing? That’s going too far!”

However, Yang Zhengnong merely glanced at Wu Buwei and ignored him. Instead, he turned to his second daughter-in-law. ”Get back home! Who told you to come here and meddle? Trying to show off, are you? You’re asking for a beating! What are you looking at? Scram!”

The second daughter-in-law lowered her head abruptly, looking as if she was about to cry, and immediately tried to run out.

Witnessing Yang Zhengnong’s display, Du Heng couldn’t help but laugh.

An old scoundrel who lives long is a menace; that probably describes people like Yang Zhengnong.

Just as his second daughter-in-law was about to pass him, Du Heng grabbed her arm and pulled her back. ”You can’t leave. You haven’t shown me your credentials yet.”

Yang Zhengnong shot his daughter-in-law an angry glare, then said to Du Heng, ”President Du, my daughter-in-law doesn’t know anything. She just came today to help mind the shop. Please let her go. If there’s any issue, we can discuss it.”

Du Heng released the second daughter-in-law’s arm. Listening to Yang Zhengnong’s nonchalant words, the anger simmering in his heart made his temples throb.

”Doctor Yang, you claim she knows nothing? But in the short time I’ve been here, your daughter-in-law has administered Acupuncture to this child, prepared oral medication for me, and even set up an IV infusion. How can such a capable person possibly be the ’knows nothing’ individual you describe?”

Then Du Heng added with an ”Oh,” ”And I almost forgot. Your daughter-in-law diagnosed me with a cold without even performing a check-up. I’m afraid even you, Doctor Yang, can’t compete with that level of skill, can you?”

Hearing Du Heng’s sarcastic words, Yang Zhengnong said nothing. Instead, he once again began to hurry people out, his tone considerably harsher this time.

The few patients were all women, one of them holding a child. Hearing Yang Zhengnong’s particularly forceful words, they all started to leave one by one.

Wu Buwei tried to stop them again, but Du Heng shook his head, signaling him to let them pass. Whether these people stayed or left now didn’t make much difference. They would have to be found during the investigation anyway.

Right now, he just wanted to see what else Yang Zhengnong would try.

Once all four patients had left, Yang Zhengnong said with a fawning smile, ”President Du, I was just muddled for a moment. Please, be lenient and let me off this time. I promise I won’t do this kind of thing again, and I’ll definitely keep my family in line.”

”My daughter-in-law just wanted to help share my burden, that’s why she did such a foolish thing. I’ll definitely teach her a lesson when we get back so she learns properly.”

Du Heng took a long breath, looked intently at Yang Zhengnong, and said, ”So, you’re saying that when your daughter-in-law was here, prescribing and dispensing medicine, performing Acupuncture, and setting up IVs, you knew nothing about it, is that right?”

”My daughter-in-law... she just wanted to help the villagers. Seeing everyone sick with no one to treat them, she got anxious...”

Du Heng waved his hand dismissively. ”So, that means you didn’t know, correct?”

Seeing Du Heng wouldn’t relent, Yang Zhengnong quickly said, ”She...”

Du Heng closed his eyes briefly, then waved his hand again to cut Yang Zhengnong off. ”Practicing medicine without a license. Do you know the consequences?”

Yang Zhengnong was taken aback and hurriedly replied, ”My daughter-in-law was just helping out. How could that be considered practicing medicine without a license?”

”Helping out?” Du Heng almost laughed out of exasperation. ”You call prescribing and dispensing medicine, and setting up IVs ’helping out’? Especially when you’re not even here?”

Yang Zhengnong rubbed his hands, adopting a very humble posture. ”President Du, it’s not a big deal. Please, let’s just overlook it this time.”

Hearing Yang Zhengnong say this, Du Heng could only shake his head at his ignorance. ”For practicing medicine without a license, if the circumstances are serious, the penalty is up to three years of imprisonment, criminal detention, or public surveillance, and/or a fine.”

”If it seriously harms the patient’s physical health, the sentence is three to ten years of imprisonment, plus a fine. If it causes the patient’s death, the sentence is more than ten years of imprisonment, plus a fine.”

Du Heng looked gravely at Yang Zhengnong and his second daughter-in-law. ”Given that child’s hand, covered in needle marks, which category do you think this falls into?”

”Also, I heard your daughter-in-law prescribed medicine for a pregnant woman, causing her to miscarry. Which category does that constitute? Doctor Yang, do you still think this isn’t a big deal?”

Yang Zhengnong was dumbfounded; all his earlier composure had vanished.

His second daughter-in-law was even more terrified and cried out, ”Dad, you have to think of something!”

Seeing the two of them panicking, Du Heng let out a soft sigh. ”Him think of something? He’s in big trouble himself. A medical institution employing non-licensed health personnel to perform medical and health work... this is a point stressed at every Health Clinic meeting. It’s precisely to prevent you from using family members to help out, which could give others a way to exploit you and cause you trouble.”

”And now look. You blatantly use your daughter-in-law, and with such free rein! Not only for performing Acupuncture, but you even dare to let her prescribe and dispense medicine.”

”Doctor Yang, according to regulations, you are to be fined between 3,000 yuan and 5,000 yuan, and your medical institution’s professional practice license will be revoked.”

”In other words, your career as a village doctor is over.”

Du Heng practically spat out those last few words through clenched teeth.

To be honest, if Yang’s second daughter-in-law hadn’t been so outrageous today—if she had merely helped sell medicine or hang an IV drip—Du Heng would have turned a blind eye. At most, he would have criticized her and warned her not to repeat the offense.

But seeing her dare to prescribe medicine herself, and worse, continue even after problems had arisen, was something he couldn’t tolerate.

Coupled with Yang Zhengnong’s nonchalant attitude earlier, Du Heng became even more determined to remove him from the village doctor system.

Only after Du Heng finished speaking did Yang Zhengnong finally realize the gravity of the situation. Hearing that his daughter-in-law might go to jail, in particular, made him panic.

Looking at Du Heng, whose eyes were red with anger, Yang Zhengnong gritted his teeth and abruptly ran towards the backyard. In no time, he returned holding two thick wads of cash.

He hadn’t wrapped it in newspaper or anything; he just came over and tried to stuff it directly into Du Heng’s hands. ”President Du, please, show mercy! We won’t dare to do it again!”

Du Heng pushed Yang Zhengnong away, his gaze icy as he looked at him. ”Last July, when you were caught selling substandard medicine ingredients and counterfeit medicine, you said the exact same thing.”

Just as Yang Zhengnong was about to speak again, the sound of many cars parking suddenly came from the clinic entrance.

Then, Gong Daoyang and personnel from the district bureau’s supervision department walked in together.

”Director Li, Gong.”

”Xiao Heng.”

”President Du, this is just a village doctor. You could have handled this yourself.”

Du Heng shook hands with both men, then looked at Director Li and said, ”Director Li, you’re joking. The Health Clinic only has the authority for professional guidance and supervision over village doctors, not administrative punishment. That task falls to you, Director Li, to handle personally.”

Seeing people in police uniforms, Yang Zhengnong and his second daughter-in-law were aghast. They truly hadn’t expected Du Heng to be so merciless as to actually call the police. Their bodies went limp, and they slumped to the ground.

Gong Daoyang glanced sideways at the pair, then asked Du Heng in confusion, ”Xiao Heng, this is an internal matter for you folks. Administrative punishment should suffice. Was there a need to call me over?”

Du Heng sighed and quickly recounted the situation with Yang’s second daughter-in-law to Gong Daoyang.

His initial reason for calling Gong Daoyang was genuinely just for backup. He had been worried the Yang family women might cause a scene, making things difficult for him and leading to an embarrassing situation where he couldn’t easily extricate himself.

He just never imagined that these daughters-in-law of the Yang family would be so formidable. They hadn’t caused him much trouble, but instead, they had directly blurted out the details about Yang’s second daughter-in-law.

If only he knew, it might have been manageable. The problem was, those four patients had also heard it, so the matter definitely couldn’t be kept quiet.

Still, the miscarriage incident could be considered major or minor, depending on the attitude of the parties involved.

After hearing Du Heng’s explanation, Gong Daoyang and Director Li both stared wide-eyed at Yang’s second daughter-in-law.

It truly validated the saying: ignorance is fearless.

Afterward, Director Li confiscated all of Yang Zhengnong’s licenses and documents and sealed up everything in the clinic that could be sealed.

Gong Daoyang also led Yang’s second daughter-in-law away. As they stepped outside, they encountered the man with the hoe from earlier. The moment Gong Daoyang glanced at him, the man immediately lowered his head and ducked behind the crowd.

Watching the desolate figure of Yang’s second daughter-in-law, Du Heng sighed quietly. He walked over to Gong Daoyang and whispered, ”Gong, that should be enough. Try not to be too severe. If she actually goes to jail, this family will be ruined.”

Gong Daoyang smiled at Du Heng. ”Don’t worry. I have more experience handling these kinds of situations than you do.”

Back at the Health Clinic, Du Heng arrived just in time for lunch. Carrying his meal tray, he found Cui Guanghaia again and recounted the morning’s events.

”Dean Ruoge, I think we could issue a notice regarding the incidents with Qi Gang and Yang Zhengnong. It would serve as a reminder to our remaining village doctors. What do you think?” Du Heng asked Cui Guanghaia softly while eating.

Cui Guanghaia thought for a moment, then swallowed the food in his mouth before nodding in agreement. ”I think that’s a good idea. Lately, apart from some internal clinic matters, most of my work has been focused on the village doctors.”

”However, every time I try to communicate with them, I encounter various forms of resistance. We still haven’t managed to finalize a concrete plan.”

”This is a good opportunity to make them all reflect. If they don’t perform their duties properly, we will genuinely remove them from the system.”
