This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”I’ve made a note of it, Mr. Du.”

After that, the two parted ways. Gu Ping went to the doctor’s office to find Doctor Zhou, while Du Heng returned to the Director’s office. After explaining the situation to Xu Pinglin, he went back to his ’home.’

Speaking of home, it was actually Wu Shengnan’s place. Du Heng still couldn’t quite figure out what to call it.

When Du Heng arrived, Wu Shengnan had already prepared a meal and was waiting by the table.

Seeing Du Heng, she said happily, ”Hurry and wash your hands. The meal is ready; the timing is perfect.”

Du Heng smiled and went to wash his hands. He couldn’t quite describe his mood, just going through the motions out of habit.

Wu Shengnan’s cooking was far inferior to Wang Shuqiu’s. Indeed, when she first started, it wouldn’t have been an exaggeration to call it ’dark cuisine.’

However, over the past month, Du Heng had witnessed an improvement in Wu Shengnan’s culinary skills; at least now, the food was edible.

That evening, after giving Wu Shengnan the activating blood massage, Du Heng said, ”I won’t do this for you starting tomorrow. Just make sure to be active and get plenty of movement on your own.”

Wu Shengnan looked slightly crestfallen, but this emotion was fleeting. She quickly asked Du Heng, ”Does that mean I can go back to work?”

”You can go back to work, but I suggest you avoid fieldwork for the next few months.”

Wu Shengnan was so overjoyed she nearly jumped up. ”Finally, I can go back to work! These past two months have nearly made me go stir-crazy!”

A smile touched Du Heng’s lips. ”In that case, I won’t come to your place tomorrow. You don’t need to cook for me in the evening.”

As soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Wu Shengnan’s expression fell. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but couldn’t find the right words.

”Good night. You should get some sleep.”

Du Heng gently placed Wu Shengnan’s foot down and, as usual, rose to leave.

Just as Du Heng was about to close the door, Wu Shengnan suddenly mustered her courage and called out, ”Du Heng, do you like me?”

Du Heng’s hand paused on the door. He turned, smiling, and said, ”Why do you ask that?”

”Should we date?!”

”Sure.”

For reasons he couldn’t quite articulate, Du Heng smiled and promised, then pulled the door closed.

Wu Shengnan, whose face had just lit up with a smile, was suddenly dumbfounded.

He just... left? Like that?

In the room, out of Du Heng’s sight, Wu Shengnan furiously thrashed her pillow about, muttering curses under her breath.

When they met in the living room the next morning, Wu Shengnan suddenly felt a little embarrassed. Du Heng, however, acted as if nothing unusual had occurred, just as he always did. It was as if their words from last night were nothing more than a casual joke.

Feeling disheartened and rather unhappy, Wu Shengnan looked at Du Heng’s packed suitcase. With a scowl, she snatched it and threw it back into the room.

”Drive me to work,” Wu Shengnan demanded, her expression stern and her tone unyielding.

Du Heng shrugged, saying nothing. He knew he had promised Wu Shengnan, but for some reason, he didn’t feel the same passion he had experienced when he was dating Wang Shuqiu.

However, seeing Wu Shengnan’s current expression, Du Heng couldn’t help but chuckle. ”Alright, let’s go. I’ll drive you.” He even held the door open for her like a gentleman.

With this gesture, the scowl on Wu Shengnan’s face softened, and she seemed a little happier.

Halfway there, Du Heng received a phone call. After he hung up, his expression turned grim.
