This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng’s sudden darkening face did not escape Wu Shengnan’s notice, wiping away the slight smile she’d previously held.

Only after Du Heng had put down his mobile phone, a gloomy expression on his face, did Wu Shengnan nervously ask, ”What happened?”

Du Heng was feeling upset, but he took a deep breath, trying to make his face look better, so as not to let his emotions affect Wu Shengnan. ”It’s just something related to my job, nothing major.”

While Du Heng sounded casual, his discomfort was evident on his face, making Wu Shengnan aware that he wasn’t being truthful.

She turned to face him directly, speaking seriously, ”You promised me last night. We’re dating now; why wouldn’t you tell me what’s wrong? Do you not trust me, or do you have other thoughts?”

Du Heng’s corner of the eye twitched, and he finally divulged after a moment of silence, ”My eligibility for the advanced award for the city’s Health System next week has been withdrawn.”

”What?” Upon hearing this news, Wu Shengnan reacted like a startled rabbit, ready to bolt. If it weren’t for her seatbelt, she might have jumped right out of the car.

”On what grounds was it cancelled? Why would they revoke your eligibility?” Wu Shengnan asked, her face filled with anger.

Seeing Wu Shengnan’s intense reaction, Du Heng comforted her, saying, ”It’s okay, let them revoke it. I don’t particularly value that eligibility.”

”Is it just about the eligibility? They’re cancelling your eligibility a week before the awards; how are you supposed to hold your head high at your job after this? Isn’t this blatant bullying?”

Wu Shengnan was truly angry. The award meant little, but the timing and the method of cancellation inflicted great damage to Du Heng’s reputation.

”Tell me, what reasons did they use?”

”What else could it be? It’s the economic investigation the district bureau launched against me a while ago.”

A flicker of confusion crossed Wu Shengnan’s pretty face. ”Wasn’t that investigation concluded? Wasn’t it stated that there were no issues on your end? Do they not know?”

Du Heng forced a bitter smile. ”They do, but they didn’t receive the investigation results from the district bureau. So, the awarding personnel at the city level didn’t dare give me the award for fear that there might be unresolved issues.”

”Then that’s a problem with your district bureau. This is clearly bullying. I’m not going to my job today. I’ll accompany you to the district bureau to clarify things. We must demand an explanation. We can’t just let them bully you like this.”

Wu Shengnan seemed genuinely aggrieved on Du Heng’s behalf, her demeanor flashing with angered energy.

Du Heng shared her sentiments, but the thought of the scene at the district bureau a few days ago robbed him of his enthusiasm. ”You don’t need to do that. Go to your job. I’ll go ask them myself.”

Wu Shengnan gave Du Heng a stern look, recognizing the appeasement in his tone.

”No, we have to sort things out. If we don’t get an explanation today, they’ll think you’re easy to bully and keep giving you trouble in the future.

Moreover, revoking your eligibility without clear reasoning, what will others think of you? Don’t you care about your reputation?”

Wu Shengnan was genuinely concerned for Du Heng. She was adamant about resolving this issue today and demanding an answer for him.

However, Du Heng was now having second thoughts. Even if this problem was resolved, he anticipated it would surely leave a heart disease weighing on his mind, bound to affect his future job satisfaction.

Perhaps, he should truly consider leaving Central Lake.

Du Heng didn’t say anything more, only focusing on driving Wu Shengnan to her job. No matter what Wu Shengnan said, he didn’t agree with her.

As Wu Shengnan’s anger grew, his mood gradually calmed.

When he dropped Wu Shengnan off at her job, her colleagues welcomed her with a grand reception.

They lined up to applaud, welcomed her into the office, and presented her with flowers.

Plus, seeing Du Heng dropping Wu Shengnan off early in the morning, along with previous events, everyone assumed that Du Heng and Wu Shengnan were together. They also warmly welcomed Du Heng, as a family member.

Some who were familiar with Du Heng even casually teased him.

Du Heng just smiled without denying it.

Not intending to stay longer, Du Heng left quickly after seeing Wu Shengnan inside. Once again, he told her to do only moderate movement and refrain from outdoor work or excessive walking around for long periods.

”Okay, go tend to your job. I’ll pick you up when you get off your job.”

Wu Shengnan smiled sweetly, ”Okay, I’ll wait for you when I get off my job.”

Once Du Heng left and Wu Shengnan completed her paperwork for resuming her job, she immediately took leave and also left the detachment.

Du Heng was willing to let this event slide, essentially swallowing his own ill-treatment. However, this wasn’t her style.

Now that it had befallen her boyfriend, she wouldn’t tolerate it. This incident needed to be explained, and Du Heng deserved compensation.

Du Heng was unaware of Wu Shengnan’s subsequent actions. After leaving the Criminal Police Brigade, he felt lost and unsure of what to do.

He drove aimlessly for a while before ultimately pulling over. Alone in his car, he sat silently, lost in thought.

Suddenly, the urgent ring of his phone broke his trance. He dazedly answered the call, hearing Liao Yuzhu’s voice on the other end.
