This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Yu Haiting couldn’t hold back any longer. He couldn’t watch Du Heng put his patient at risk. ”Dean, let’s just transfer him to the Municipal First Hospital! They have the equipment; they can definitely do it.”

Du Heng looked at Yu Haiting with a half-smile. ”Transfer to the Municipal First Hospital? Given the severity of the patient’s heart failure and numerous life-threatening illnesses, do you think the Municipal First Hospital will accept him now?”

Upon hearing Du Heng’s words, Yu Haiting fell silent. This was precisely why he had called Du Heng over. ”But Dean, I may not understand traditional Chinese medicine, but I do know that aconite is poisonous. This 200-gram dose you’re proposing, isn’t it too large?”

Yu Haiting’s words voiced what the others, who hadn’t spoken up, were thinking. Their expressions were similar to Yu Haiting’s at that moment.

For a time, everyone started talking at once, trying to persuade Du Heng.

It was no wonder. Of those present, apart from the nurses, only Wu Buwei and Doctor Shi from the Pharmacy had seen Du Heng use the Extraordinary Heart-saving Decoction last year. As for the others, things had long since changed, and the people were no longer the same.

Even now, hardly anyone knew what Du Heng had relied on to become the Dean.

It was that very bowl of Extraordinary Heart-saving Decoction, with its large dose of aconite, that had earned him the position.

However, hearing everyone’s concerns, Du Heng’s expression darkened considerably.

It wasn’t because they didn’t trust him, but because, in their concern that he might make a mistake, they had forgotten that the patient and his family were right there beside them.

Now, they were all trying to persuade Du Heng to abandon the treatment and not take risks. What would the patient and his family think of this?

They showed no sense of organization, discipline, or principle. They didn’t even seem to understand their own professional ethics. Du Heng’s face turned terrifyingly dark; this work ethic and attitude must be seriously rectified, he thought.

Seeing Du Heng’s grim expression, Wu Buwei quickly interjected, ”Everyone, you may know that aconite is toxic, but you probably don’t know what dose is lethal, nor do you likely know that aconite’s toxicity can be neutralized by a combination of other medicinal ingredients.

The Dean has added a large amount of auxiliary medicinal ingredients to this house. Apart from the life-saving medicinal ingredients, some are specifically included to neutralize the toxicity of aconite.

I won’t explain the specifics. If you want to know, you can research it yourselves afterward.

Also, last May, the Dean used a large dose of Extraordinary Heart-saving Decoction to save a patient who already had both feet in the Gates of Hell.

All of this can be found in our system. If you’re interested, you can look it up.”

As soon as Wu Buwei finished speaking, the monitor beside the patient began to alarm frantically.

Everyone turned to look. Within seconds, the patient’s heartbeat went from present to non-existent, flatlining into a straight line.

Cardiac arrest!

Their worst fears were realized.

However, Yu Haiting and Du Heng were standing at the front, and Yu Haiting was in a better position. Seeing what was happening, he immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Xiao Li also reached Yu Haiting’s side instantly.

Du Heng took a step back, leaving space for Yu Haiting, Xiao Li, and the nurse who had just entered.

Looking at the doctors standing by the door, Du Heng truly felt as if he were about to explode with anger.

”Get the family out of here! The rest of you, leave too! Get back to what you should be doing,” Du Heng ordered, his face dark as he began to usher people out.

Yu Haiting and Xiao Li performed timely emergency treatment. Coupled with the fact that the patient still had some vital energy remaining, his heartbeat finally recovered after two rounds of CPR.

At this moment, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief. Du Heng, however, had completely lost the desire to explain. ”Buwei, take 2500ml of cold water, simmer it over low heat until it reduces to 450ml. Add the ginseng juice. It’s to be taken in three divided doses, one every three hours. Go now, and be meticulous during the decoction of medicine. The aconite dose is very high this time, so you must watch it carefully.”

”I understand, Senior Brother.” Wu Buwei glanced at Yu Haiting and Xiao Li, then quickly ran to the Pharmacy with the prescription in hand.

Meanwhile, Du Heng turned back to Yu Haiting and Xiao Li, who were by the hospital bed. ”You two, don’t go anywhere. Keep a close watch on him. If cardiac arrest occurs again, do not delay for even a second.

Remember this: he must survive. Otherwise, you’ll both be in serious trouble.”

Du Heng uttered these last words through gritted teeth.

The initial examination for the patient’s brucellosis had been incomplete and the treatment insufficient. His current crisis was triggered by his own negligence in catching a cold. However, they had failed to provide symptomatic treatment for the patient’s heart, liver, and kidney conditions. This was an inescapable responsibility on their part.

Moreover, their earlier questioning of Du Heng in the hospital room, urging him to give up, was the most basic and unforgivable mistake.

Outside the hospital room, the patient’s wife burst into tears, her body so weak she could barely stand. If Nurse Li Nating hadn’t been supporting her, she would have undoubtedly collapsed onto a chair by now.

Seeing the patient’s wife, Du Heng quickly composed himself. ”It’s alright now; he’s been saved. Come with me to the consultation room. There are a few forms you need to sign.”

The woman’s sobs weren’t loud, but they were enough to attract the attention of other patients’ families in the hallway. Curious heads peeked out one by one, observing the patient’s wife.

Looking at the confused and worried expressions in the hallway, Du Heng suddenly had an idea: We need a dedicated emergency room. These critically ill patients must be isolated from ordinary patients.
