This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

So, was Du Heng’s scoring system good or not?

For the medical care personnel working at the Health Clinic, they truly wanted to flay Du Heng alive.

It was such a dirty trick. Scoring was one thing, but they hadn’t expected it to be tied to their wages and bonuses.

It would have been fine if it was just a symbolic gesture, but it turned out to be real, and so ruthless.

For a while, everyone was miserable, afraid of offending colleagues who might secretly give them low scores, and equally afraid of receiving low scores for poor service to patients.

Especially in their treatment of patients over the past six-plus months, they had thoroughly showcased the ugliness of human nature. This was a rural area, and the incoming patients were all old farmers from the mountains; their hygiene, well, it couldn’t be discussed in detail.

Among these new doctors, a few, upon seeing patients covered in filth and dressed in rags, would visibly show their disdain, their expressions reeking of contempt.

It seemed as if these people weren’t living human beings before them but a pile of hot, steaming excrement. They were so disgusted that they felt polluted merely by reaching out to take a pulse or perform a check-up.

Also, the way they spoke to them was like scolding their own livestock. Adding to that, these old farmers were generally unfamiliar with the place, timid, and didn’t quite understand what the doctors were saying. After being loudly berated a couple of times, they would become so flustered they could barely walk straight.

Another group consisted of long-term inpatients requiring treatment for paralysis. When they first arrived, things were relatively peaceful as everyone was still unfamiliar with each other. However, once familiarity set in and their hospital stays lengthened, relatives caring for them inevitably had other commitments and couldn’t always be present. This necessitated asking doctors and nurses for help with various tasks.

But these doctors and nurses had been thoroughly spoiled over the past year. Regardless of whether a patient’s request was demanding, if they dared ask for help, the staff would give them attitude. They had almost forgotten what their job even was.

Now, things were different. If anyone dared to show a nasty attitude, they couldn’t blame Du Heng for giving them a zero for their monthly pay.

Moreover, with Yu Haiting’s prior example as a lesson, they genuinely believed Du Heng was capable of such actions.

The medical care personnel were disgruntled, but Du Heng, Cui Guanghai, and Yu Haiting felt much more at ease. Although the methods were somewhat despicable, the results were surprisingly effective.

Just as the three of them were sitting in the office, further discussing the Health Clinic’s next steps, several cars pulled into the clinic’s backyard.

At the same time, Du Heng received a call from An Chunhui.

”Xiao Du, for this upcoming period, please set aside your current work. Ensure a proper handover, and then take a good, long rest. Just consider it a vacation.”

Hearing An Chunhui’s abrupt and vague words, Du Heng’s mind was in a fog. ”Leader, what’s happened?”

”Hmm, just cooperate fully with Secretary Liu and his team’s work. As for me, my position is being transferred, so I might not be able to look out for you much.”

Secretary Liu? Which Secretary Liu? A transfer?

Du Heng hurriedly asked, ”Leader, is it a promotion? Congratulations! When you have a moment, I must treat you to a meal to share in your good fortune.”

Hearing Du Heng’s words, An Chunhui felt a twinge of shame. He merely reiterated that Du Heng should cooperate fully with the work, then quickly hung up.

He had capitalized on Du Heng’s work achievements, gaining significant favor with Wu Shengnan’s grandfather. Consequently, he was swiftly transferred away.

But with his departure, Du Heng was about to face hardship, and An Chunhui could offer no help. This made him too embarrassed to continue speaking with Du Heng.

Listening to the busy tone, Du Heng felt somewhat dazed, his eyes gazing blankly at Cui Guanghai and Yu Haiting in the office.

At this moment, the office door was pushed open.

”Secretary Liu?!!!”

Seeing the person before him, Du Heng finally understood which Secretary Liu An Chunhui had been referring to.

The Secretary of the Health Bureau’s Discipline Inspection Commission.

Dumbfounded, Du Heng found himself suspended from his duties and work. Disheartened, he drove away in his Benz.

Cui Guanghai was utterly perplexed and, in his confusion, temporarily took charge of the Health Clinic’s operations.

The finance room also suddenly had several new faces, people who spent their days tirelessly scrutinizing the previous year’s account books.

As for the medical care personnel in the hospital, one or two would be called in for a ”talk” each day. Although no one discussed the details, everyone knew what was being said.

Even Wang Zhenzhen, still in her confinement period, was not spared. In fact, she became a key focus of attention, questioned multiple times in succession.

Du Heng, conversely, was only questioned twice. The second time, especially, ended in less than three minutes after Du Heng presented his tax payment records.

Dong Yuezhang, dedicated to improving the lives of the Central Lake people, worked tirelessly day in and day out. Today, however, he had managed to take a day off. He, along with Wei Kaida and Jin Zan, dragged Du Heng up the mountain to visit the agritourism business run by Wang Shiyuan and his wife, where they spent the day playing cards.

”80,000 yuan,” Wei Kaida said, throwing down a tile. ”I’m telling you, kid, you’re just one of those ’money-to-burn’ types. Get a bit of cash in your pocket, and you don’t know what to do with yourself. You were asking for it, plain and simple.”

”Six Circles,” Jin Zan followed, drawing a tile. ”You can’t say that. Du didn’t do anything too ostentatious; he just bought a car.”

”One Bamboo,” Du Heng said quietly, not speaking further. He had been feeling down for nearly a week.

”A car? A leader driving a Benz, and you paid in full for it too! Who else would they investigate if not you?” Dong Yuezhang, a cigarette dangling from his lips, reached out and took the One Bamboo tile Du Heng had just discarded. ”PONG! West Wind.”

”See? Didn’t I tell you? This kid is just too arrogant. He had it coming.” Wei Kaida played a tile without calling out. As he drew his hand back, he subtly pulled the Six Circles tile Jin Zan had just played towards himself.

”But it’s alright. Now that the investigation has found nothing, I’m sure he’ll be back to work soon,” Jin Zan said, the only one among the brothers who refrained from teasing Du Heng.

Dong Yuezhang interjected, ”Back to work? In his dreams.” He then urged Du Heng to play his turn. ”It’s obvious someone is out to cause trouble, and our good brother here conveniently provided them with the ammunition. Isn’t that just digging your own grave?”

When it was Wei Kaida’s turn again, he finally incorporated the Six Circles tile into his hand, chuckling. ”In my opinion, Du’s skills shouldn’t be wasted in that obscure little clinic. Now that he’s suspended, it’s the perfect opportunity to make a clean break, resign, and we can open our own clinic.

”When we’re raking in money, even if you fly a private plane, no one will be able to say anything about you.”

”Tsk, you think Du is like you? He’s a man of ambition and ideals. How could he abandon his aspirations for mere material wealth?” Jin Zan retorted disdainfully.

Wei Kaida sneered even more. ”Ideals are bullshit!”

After his indignant outburst, Wei Kaida continued, ”Look at the Zhonghu Health Center now, and then think back to what it was like when we first sent Du to work there.

”And yet, here we are. Baseless accusations, and his work is suspended without a proper investigation. What’s the use of such ideals? Anyone with eyes can see they’ve come to plunder the fruits of his labor.

”He worked so hard to cultivate those fruits, only for others to come and pluck them? Jin Zan, you might accept it, but I, Wei Kaida, cannot!

”I just want to ask on Du’s behalf: on what grounds?”

With that one question, ”on what grounds,” Jin Zan found himself unable to offer any rebuttal.
