The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 994: Chapter 994: Still Too Early to Make a Match

Princess Anping’s reaction was noticed by Song Ci, who couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy. She lowered her voice and asked, ”What’s wrong? Is there anything inappropriate?”

Judging by her reaction, it seemed she was unaware that the candidate was suggested by Emperor Chu.

Princess Anping smiled awkwardly and said, ”There’s nothing inappropriate; it’s just a bit strange. You have only just met Miss Wen, yet you’re quite attentive to her. That’s the only point I can think of.”

Song Ci glanced at the slip with the lotus lamp’s riddle in her hand and said softly, ”This is merely coincidence. If it weren’t for what my eldest son told me earlier, I wouldn’t have paid attention.”

Princess Anping’s heart skipped a beat as she asked, ”Could it be that Prime Minister Song has taken an interest?”

”Not exactly taken an interest, but a person was suggested. Oh, and your royal brother mentioned it.”

”What?”

Princess Anping was shocked. This person was proposed by her royal brother and then discussed with Prime Minister Song. Could this be related to the political landscape?

She’s not foolish; just the thought of it means she won’t provoke her royal brother. It seems Lady Wen’s probing can be completely rejected, as who would dare compete with her brother?

Even if it wasn’t her royal brother, but rather Prime Minister Song who fancied this match, she wouldn’t compete with the Song Minister’s Mansion.

The daughter of the Governor of Jiangnan is esteemed, but throughout the Great Qing, she’s not the only daughter of a regional envoy, and she’s older than Zhao’er by a year.

”My Su’er will be turning sixteen next year. Originally, his father thought to settle things after achieving merit. But you know our family’s situation; too many have their eyes on us. If the eldest grandson’s marriage isn’t decided, his younger brothers’ marriages can’t be planned either. Since the Emperor proposed someone, it doesn’t hurt to take a look.” Song Ci smiled tentatively and asked, ”Why, has the Commandery Princess taken a liking to Miss Wen?”

Princess Anping quickly shook her head and said, ”My Zhao’er is only thirteen, without any achievements yet, not as advantaged as your eldest son.”

She didn’t mention Lady Wen’s probing.

It wasn’t appropriate to say such things; the observant would notice and judge for themselves. Her attitude was clear, and she believed Song Ci understood that she had no interest in the Wen family.

”Actually, it’s fine to delay the boy’s marriage, but as for the girls, I wish they could marry at seventeen or eighteen. However, things often don’t go as planned.”

Princess Anping smiled and asked, ”Have you taken an interest? Should I help secure this match?”

Song Ci shook her head and said, ”To say I’ve taken an interest is premature. It’s just a preliminary look; ultimately, Su’er’s mother has the say.”

Frankly, her impressions of Lady Wen and her circle are not excellent, but not bad either. It’s their first interaction, so she can’t make any conclusions yet and must observe more.

”Miss Wen’s upbringing seems appropriate,” Princess Anping remarked. ”I’ve heard Lady Wen’s teachings were according to the standards of a prominent family matriarch. If chosen, it wouldn’t be a bad match.”

Song Ci smiled, ”We’ll see how fate plays out.”

From where they stood, they could perfectly observe the group of young ladies laughing under the lights, with Wen Zishan standing by a rabbit lamp, her smile just right, surrounded by two young ladies from the Ji Family, and two other young girls, giving an impression of stand-out elegance.

Song Ci’s eyes flashed briefly as she withdrew her gaze and asked, ”Has the marriage date of Commandery Princess Shou Ning been set?”

Princess Anping replied, ”It has been set for January 18 next year. Invitations will be sent to you then.”
